Let Lauren Live!

LAUREN RICHARDSON - YOU CAN HELP!
By Judie Brown

It has been a source of ongoing sadness to read of the difficulties Lauren Richardson’s father has had over the course of the past several months. For those of you who are not familiar with her case, Lauren overdosed on heroin on August 28, 2006. She suffered oxygen deprivation and, as a result of the overdose, is now in a coma and unable to speak out for herself. At the time of the overdose, Lauren was expecting a baby. Her parents honored what they knew would have been her wish and did all they could to keep her healthy and comfortable until the child was born. Today, though Lauren may not be aware of it, she is the mother of Ember Grace, who was born in February 2007.

Since the birth of her daughter, Lauren remains unable to speak of her concerns, but she has a loving father who is doing all he can to protect her from suffering the same fate as Terri Schiavo. However, Lauren’s mother, who has been named her legal guardian, is sadly not of the same opinion and is working with attorneys to pressure the courts to permit Lauren’s starvation.

Lauren’s father has kept hope alive, even at times when there appeared to be no hope in human terms. Lauren’s father is a man of hope in Christ and is dedicated to spending every breath he has on defending Lauren, regardless of what it might cost him in physical exhaustion and worldly goods. The most recent update for those concerned about Lauren tells us the following:

We struggle at times as we seek to share with the public the details of what is happening with Lauren because of the disagreement we have with Lauren’s mother. We cannot understand her reasoning in refusing a path of hope, healing and restoration for Lauren and insisting on causing her death by withholding food and water from her. The issue in Lauren’s case is the eternal truth that all people, no matter what their medical condition, bear the image of God and deserve basic care and an opportunity to be restored to health.

Bobby Schindler, Terri Schiavo’s brother, has written about Lauren in an editorial earlier this year, "False Compassion," and is working closely with Lauren’s father in order to provide expertise that he is uniquely qualified to share during a trying time like this.

There are many links on the Life for Lauren web site that will assist you in tracking this case and learning who is supporting Lauren’s ongoing care and who is opposing it. More importantly, there is something you can do to express your concerns.

ACTION NEEDED NOW

The governor of Delaware, Ruth Ann Minner, is being asked by pro-life Americans across this nation to intervene in this case in order to save Lauren from what many fear is an imminent court order dictating that Lauren be starved and dehydrated to death. I am asking you to be one of those who communicates your passionate belief that Lauren’s life is sacred and deserves to be protected from those who would order her death. The governor’s e-mail address is governor.minner@state.de.us.

Further, it would mean a great deal to Lauren’s father, Randy, if you sent him a copy of your e-mail to Governor Ruth Ann Minner. Randy’s e-mail address is Lifeforlauren@aol.com

During a recent visit to Anchorage, Alaska where Bobby Schindler was invited to speak, he told a reporter from The Catholic Anchor, "Once we accept that killing is an acceptable answer to human suffering, we lose any type of parameters. Euthanasia is a form of abandonment. It is not compassion."

Truer words were never spoken. As I frequently tell people who argue that we pro-lifers are being heartless and cruel for fighting to defend the rights of a "hopeless case," "God is the author of every human being’s life, and He has never given permission to a single one of us to arbitrarily rob another human being of life for any reason including disability or illness."

As Flannery O’Connor once wrote on the subject of false compassion, "In the absence of faith, we govern by tenderness. And tenderness leads to the gas chamber."

Lauren Richardson is not terminal – she is severely disabled. Lauren Richardson should not be murdered.

Judie Brown is president of American Life League and a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life.

Her passing was sad, but we may be heartened as wagglebee and I noted, that it was on God’s terms, and not under the clutches of the death squads.

This is a bit lengthy, but worth the read.

..................................................

Today Hot Air reveals that top British moral philosopher, Baroness Warnock, thinks that the government should license senile people to be "put down" so they can stop being a drain on society.

The veteran Government adviser said pensioners in mental decline are “wasting people’s lives” because of the care they require and should be allowed to opt for euthanasia even if they are not in pain.

She insisted there was “nothing wrong” with people being helped to die for the sake of their loved ones or society.

The 84-year-old added that she hoped people will soon be “licensed to put others down” if they are unable to look after themselves. …

Lady Warnock said: “If you’re demented, you’re wasting people’s lives – your family’s lives – and you’re wasting the resources of the National Health Service.

“I’m absolutely, fully in agreement with the argument that if pain is insufferable, then someone should be given help to die, but I feel there’s a wider argument that if somebody absolutely, desperately wants to die because they’re a burden to their family, or the state, then I think they too should be allowed to die.

“Actually I’ve just written an article called ‘A Duty to Die?’ for a Norwegian periodical. I wrote it really suggesting that there’s nothing wrong with feeling you ought to do so for the sake of others as well as yourself.”

Sure, let's go back to the days of Nazi Germany when the handicapped, disabled, senile and all those over the age of at least 70 can be disposed of.  After all, these segments of society are not actually contributing any benefits, are they?

Why not push this "right to die" belief and extend it to those who are unable to make the decisions for themselves, especially if they lack the cognitive ability.  This right to die belief could then be called "must die" and could be implemented for all senile patients.  After all, those people with Alzheimer's should be willing to sacrifice their life and not be such a burden on their families, whether they are sane enough to realize how worthless they are or not.

Neil Hunt, who is the chief executive of the Alzheimer's Society in Britain, stated:  "I am shocked and amazed that Baroness Warnock could disregard the value of the lives of people with dementia so callously."

Sadly enough, these statements are not shocking at all to me in this day and time.  The belief in the sanctity of human life has gradually been chipped away in the U.S.  The beginning of the end of our belief in this sanctity started with Roe v. Wade in 1973 which has resulted in millions of babies being murdered over the last thirty-five years.  Additionally, euthanasia is now regarded as perfectly acceptable and in fact favored - people should have the "right to die."  As a nation we stood by and watched while Terri Schiavo was starved to death because her husband, who already had a family by another woman, conveniently said Terri would have wanted it that way.

I am reminded of an article I read just this week by Dr. Allan Carlson.  The article is entitled "Death Wish II:  Euthanasia, the Second Time Around" and talks about the similarities of the "mercy killing" movement in the U.S. (and other countries) and the Germany of 1920.

The same impulse emerged in Germany as well.  In 1920, the prominent jurist Karl Binding and the distinguished psychiatrist Alfred Hoch published a book entitled (in translation) The Release of Life Devoid of Value.  The volume described those "absolutely worthless human beings" held in psychiatric institutions and asylums for the retarded who had "neither the will to live or die" and "whose death is urgently necessary."  The book labeled these poor souls a vast army of "ballast existences," outlined how a euthanasia program could be organized, and emphasized the financial economies to be gained.

These views, I hasten to add, were not those of cranks or cruel thugs.  These judges, doctors, and scientists were leaders in their fields, progressives, self-styled "modernists," who sought to apply the successful techniques of industry and the values of efficiency and cost-accounting to questions of healing, life, and death.  They rejected the old, "discredited" Christian principle of "the sanctity of human life" in favor of a rational measure of utility, and a readiness to relieve suffering at any cost.

You may read Carlson's entire article here.

Do you notice any similarities in the statements of Baroness Warnock and those of Binding and Hock?  Their beliefs are eerily similar; they all believe "worthless human beings" or "senile people" should be dealt with, stating these people's deaths are "urgently necessary" and they should be "helped to die."

In any society, the value of all human life is degraded when killing some members of that society is seen a positive thing and is called necessary for the good of the public.  If the "right to die" does exist in the U.S., and it certainly does, how far away are we from the "license to kill" policy which Baroness Warnock speaks of above?

Put the Senile Out of Their Misery

They are looking beyond the truth. Is that so specific, or just a trait of Democratics in general?

.....................................

Other races where Democrats think the strategy could be employed include the New Jersey Senate contest between two Jewish candidates, Democratic Senator Frank Lautenberg and GOP Representative Dick Zimmer, and Minnesota, where Republican Senator Norm Coleman faces a challenge from Democrat and fellow Jew Al Franken.

“Israel is just the beginning of Jewish values. It’s not the end,” Seals told the Forward.

Seals and Kirk both back a two-state solution for Middle East peace, Israel’s right to defend itself and the Israel security fence. But Seals paints Kirk as out of touch with his district, because of his support of the Iraq War. He also cites Kirk’s votes to use federal funding in the construction of a 29-foot-tall cross on Mount Soledad near San Diego, and his support for legislation to allow a federal judge to review the case of Terri Schiavo, the brain-damaged Florida woman whose feeding tube was removed in 2005, as an example where the incumbent is out of touch with Jewish voters.

“Folks just think that was overstepping the bounds of government,” Seals said of Kirk’s support for the Schiavo bill.....................

Stirring things up a bit is this thread by wagglebee. I tend to see it in simplistic terms. Put two badly damaged patients side by side, identical chances of survival, but borderline fitting the definition of "brain dead." One has usable spare parts and the other doesn't. Guess who gets the nod, and who gets the thumbs down on continuing life.

The Baroness is 84, what use is she to society any more, honestly? Just think of the resources that could be re-allocated were we to be rid of Her Uselessness.

I wonder what her response would be to that question.

Well, she is a leftist. That explains a whole lot. To them, rules they seek for others never apply to themselves. I do note frequently enough, the rules they would imply on others are diametric opposite of what they would have for themselves.

It would be something, though if she would volunteer to set an example.

When you are assigning a monetary value to a human life as a measure of whether that person should be allowed to live or not, where do the “homeless” come in? Although the left loves to wax on about how much they “care” about the homeless, it seems to me that a strong argument can be made that those people are a drain on our resources.

This looks like a situation where two leftist “ideals” could be butting heads. I guess that’s a consequence of not living by any rational values.

It is so intrinsic to leftist thinking, a special term applies to them, cognitive dissonance. They have that ability to believe fervantly in two opposing and even mutually exclusive arguments. Yet with these two sitting side by side in their little brains some mysterious wall keeps them from gobbling each other up.

These days, it is defined as a tension or anxiety due to holding these beliefs, but I think it is their own modification of the term so it sounds better. From what I have seen they can hold some of the most outrageous beliefs this way and never feel a twinge of discomfort. You hit upon a good example.

Another is to promote the killing of baby humans while weeping over trying to save baby seals.

Wow from down under! Once again, the highly touted stem cells from little unborn babies are nowhere to be found. But then the goals are opposite. Adult Stem cell use may save lives and heal while embryonic stem cell research is primarily only to kill unborn babies.

ADELAIDE, Australia, September 19, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Researchers within the University of Adelaide's new Centre for Stem Cell Research are aiming by the end of this year to show repair in stroke-damaged brains using stem cells taken from adult teeth.

The world-leading research using dental pulp stem cells from extracted human teeth and stroke-affected rat brain tissue will be outlined as part of the launch of the Centre for Stem Cell Research.

The focus of the new Centre will be on turning novel basic research into potential life-saving treatments and cures for serious conditions and diseases.

Once again the PP peeps do the diametric opposite of what they purport. It is their essence, and that of their father, the father of lies. Thread by wagglebee.

And I know Eugenics! I grew up near Eugene.

...................................

Planned Parenthood, an organization that claims to promote women's health and well-being, has a deeply stained history of racism, hatred and lies.

Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, summed up the purpose of her organization with this statement: "More children from the fit, less from the unfit."

It sounds like something out of Nazi Germany, like eugenics or creating a master race. Sanger founded the American Birth Control League in 1923, which later became the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc. She was a passionate advocate for eugenics, a movement that essentially tried to wipe out any human being deemed genetically "unfit."

Another well-known fan of eugenics? Adolf Hitler.......

In the increasing flurry of this election's negative political ads, the Barack Obama campaign produced a TV commercial that not only attacks Republican rival John McCain, but also takes aim at an unusual target: a 31-year-old woman who was born alive after her mother's botched abortion. Obama's commercial predictably takes shots at the GOP campaign, calling John McCain's ads "the sleaziest ever, truly vile." But when the screen shows clips of abortion survivor Gianna Jessen and the ad she made asking Obama to reverse his stance on born alive infant protection legislation, the Obama ad calls Jessen's appeal "a despicable lie."..........

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 18, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Although Chairman Barbara Boxer expressed frustration when the unborn's right to life emerged as a topic of discussion during a Senate Environment and Public Works Committee meeting, she herself repeatedly admitted that a pregnant woman is carrying a child, despite her reputation for being staunchly pro-abortion.

Her admission happened while the Senate panel was reviewing a bill involving the dollar value assessment the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) assigns to human life in environmental decisions.
