Fears grow that Obama can't win: White working class Democrats will defect to McCain
The Guardian ^ | June 1, 2008 | Paul Harris

With senator Barack Obama poised this week to clinch his party's nomination for President, there are growing fears in some quarters that the Democratic party may not be choosing its strongest candidate to beat Republican John McCain.

Senator Hillary Clinton has been making that argument for weeks. Now some recent polls and analysis, looking particularly at vital battleground states and support among white voters, have bolstered her case - even as Obama looks certain to become the nominee.

Obama supporters reject this argument and point to his record of boosting Democratic voter turnout, especially among the young. But sceptics in the party, already nervous about nominating Obama after the furore over outspoken pastor Jeremiah Wright, are growing increasingly concerned. 'There is an element of buyer's remorse in some areas. The question is whether it gets really strong now or in September - or even after the election is over, if he loses,' said Steve Mitchell, head of political consultancy Mitchell Research.

Another boost to Clinton's case came late last week after a pro-Obama preacher gave a race-tinged rant against her at Obama's church in Chicago. In a recent sermon Michael Pfleger - a long-term Obama backer who is white - mocked Clinton as an entitled white person angry at a black man having beaten her. His angry, red-faced speech, in which he mimicked Clinton weeping, was played repeatedly across American cable channels and the internet.

The news sent shock waves through Democratic circles; many had hoped Obama had put 'pastor problems' behind him. 'It is more of the same problem as Wright. It reinforces the image among some voters that Obama does not share their values,' said Mitchell.

You seem to believe the polling and obvious hype of the media, a media firmly in the pocket of Hussein. The many problems with his Church, his wife’s big mouth and his really unbelievable foreign policy gaffes will destroy him in the end, McCain is wiping up the floor with Hussein from the stand point of national security.

What some here have said about their friends and neighbors, who are Democrats not voting for Hussein, may be anecdotal but it is becoming wide spread. I live in NJ, as liberal a State as you will find with only few exceptions. I also have spoken to friends who feel the same way. They are not McCaniacs by any means but they do not care for or trust Hussein. While not many have come right out and said they would vote for McCain, the fact they haven’t said they would vote for Hussein and express such doubts about his lack of experience and the outrageous rhetoric he is now associated with, makes me believe many of these people will NOT vote for the lib even if it means they stay home.

There is so much material the Rep can use against Hussein, his own words and those of Clinton, that he will spend all of his time on defense in the general. In contrast, McCain is a known entity and there is nothing much to be revealed about him unless the libs are holding something from 30 years ago that was never known, which I doubt.

And he’s going to be worse on military and abdicating US Sovergnty to the UN than Clinton ever thought about being.

This really hurts. Look at the tremendous strides the military is making with programs like Future Combat Systems. One of Obamas 1st acts as POTUS would be to eliminate the program. America: dont let it happen!

you took Father Pfleger out of context

The truly shocking statements he made DIDN'T get played 24/7 on the media. I saw some footage the other day, only one time, that showed him saying something like

"African-Americans are like a woman that you keep raping, and raping, and raping, and raping, and raping (yes, he repeated it that much), and then you tell her, 'You'll just have to take it'. And we say 'Hell no!' (yes, he swore from the pulpit more than once). We're not gonna take it. America has to PAY for raping us."

That one needs to be played over and over and over on the networks. Pfleger would have to move to New Zealand if America knew everything he really said.

This is ironic. Leftists always claim to be the heroes of the workers, and yet they are being rejected by the working class.

I disagreed with Rush who wanted Hillary to get the nod. To me, Obama was the weakling.

Open your eyes for once. It's been said on this forum a thousand times. Rush never wanted anyone in particular to get the nomination. He wanted to spread chaos within the Democrat nomination process. That's why it was called "OPERATION CHAOS". Get it?

What does it take for you anti-Rush bots to understand???

I dunno. I think the American electorate has been sufficiently dumbed down that they might just elect this guy. On the other hand, I think the Hispanic and white blue collar vote are up for grabs.

Your comment reminds me that there have been many writings on the many lawsuits tendered by different democrat organizations regarding recounts, ballot validity, etc. Of course everyone remembers Florida 2000. Add to that Ohio 2004, Seattle mayoral(?) race; each was a probe into the legal standing of the balloting process. Just as the muslim takes to airports and then sues for feigned affronts, the democrat machine is setting us up for a win thru legal bludgeoning.

Down with the affirmaive action candidate. There’s so much at stake. I’ve decided, despite my disgust with him, to vote for McCain. The debacle of 1992 would recur with truly tragic consequences if this dangerous, untrustworthy leftist gets elected. The ones who would “burn cities” if he lost are the irresponsible children we have to safeguard the nation from. Blacks, who make up his core constituancy, are showing their irresponsibility by either not knowing, or not caring about the reality of the leftist politics that Obama represents, only caring that “a brother” gets elected. All these “young people” as well, that are so blindly enthusiastic about Hussein Obama just show that the voting age should be pushed up to 21 or so, or that a test should be given before handing out a voter’s card. Obama is the idiot’s candidate, and makes the vote for EVEN McCain to be a no-brainer, as far as I’m concerned.

In fact, since 4 March, Clinton has won around half a million more votes than Obama

That is an interesting factoid. Now, thinking back through several election cycles it is these same voters that demanded the destruction of the electoral college during presidential elections. If we applied their demand regarding using only the popular vote, Clinton should be their nominee and wouldn’t they hate that too!

But many Black's are owned and paid for by the Dem's and will be “ persuaded “ to vote the party line “ or else “
The old racist guard of the Democrat party however is unlikely to vote for a “ N****r
