This is quite funny AND ironic... You are calling me (who, as a fan of his earlier work, and who just recently listened to his copy of FM&AM on vinyl) a 'jerk' for doing exactly what Carlin did! He was viruently anti-God, and I was razzing him for it. And you are offended by my 'tasteless' attempt at humor!!!

You know what? I will say to you what Carlin would say to someone offended by his 'tasteless' jokes: (As I blow smoke in your face) "Kiss. My. ASS!!!"

You guys who are fans of comedians who made their living acting cynical, ascerbic, grumpy and shocking... you criticize someone for making a joke about them?

I didn't just come on here and say something like "I don't like him." or "I never thought he was funny." No one cares what those pudpullers have to say. I'm a fan of his who made a comment about him, in a similar way he might have.

I made a joke, one that would be quite funny and 'biting' in the hands of a talented comedian with stage presence.

Carlin and the comedians you listed earlier lived pushing other people's buttons. Don't get mad when someone else pushes back, whatever their motivation.

I'll never forget seeing Carlin in concert about twenty years ago. His opening monologue was one of the most vile, tasteless, angry, nasty, offensive, anti-religious atheistic screeds I'd ever heard in my life, even by Carlin's standards. I almost got up and walked out, but my Wife grabbed me by the arm and convinced me to stay. The rest of the show was hilarious, but I would never forgive him for some of the horrible things he said about God and Christians.

RIP, George. You had a unique gift that was too often perverted by hate. I hope you had time to make peace with God.

I remember listening to Carlin living near Wichita Falls late 58' or 59' on a radio station from Wichita Falls. That is where I first heard some of the lines from the Hippy Dippy Weatherman. We used to sit out in our cars and listen to 8 track recordings of FM & AM, Class Clown; we listened to them over and over. George made us laugh and was thought provoking at times. He was always trying new angles to entertain, never backing off. Carlin was unique and whether one liked him or not, one had to admire his tenacity. The good Lord is a forgiving God and I know he has a sense of humor and will set Carlin straight as he enters the afterlife. I would love to hear a set by Carlin after he meets God.

I think we should all be a little careful (actually a lot careful) assuming either way where George Carlin is in the hereafter. Carlin’s death has certainly brought out the worst in people here on this thread. His early and middle career was brilliant, but later in life he was a bitter (and just plain hateful) old man. He was actually at his worst (comically) when he was political. He simply wasn’t funny at those times and ended up coming off like a kook. That being said, I’ll pray for the repose of his soul (and for peace to be with his family).

And I wish I had been alive then.

My kids LOVE George Carlin, and I sort of adopted some of my parenting style AFTER him.

I always understood what he meant about the curse words and how could a WORD be evil?

Therefore when my children were born and started to talk, I would scold not for saying a “BAD” word, because “There are no such thing as ‘bad’ words”, but saying a “Grown up word”. This also got me out of the doghouse if I got caught saying a “Bad” word, cause it’s not bad, it’s grown up and I’m a grown up.

This is the truth, George Carlin affected my parenting and I don’t think I realized it until now.

My kids love him too, he was the voice in Tarzan II of the elder ape. He also had a little calendar with sayings on them and we would tear each one off each day to see the funny new thing he said. That one wasn’t vulgar, save for the occassional curse word, no biggie. That was the thing, he wasn’t really VULGAR with the exception of pushing boundaries of society. Not nasty or anything.
