This is will-to-power masquerading as tolerance.

From looking at the comments on thread, and the keywords that have been added, my impression is that Jonah's conclusion is being overlooked. This obeisance to sensitivity is nothing less than PC suicide, IMHO.

You have to remember this...to run for a country or city office in most regions...you don’t need to be educated. You just need to know how to win an election. I lived in Tucson for four years and felt that most of the town council was as dim as you can get. They all had pro-neighborhood views and no-growth visions...but you could have asked them about the economics of Tucson...and they’d be totally lost. The county council was exactly the opposite...with economics and growth in their mind...and saw unlimited growth as the answer to the county’s woes. I think across America...we all face this dilemma...where the winner of an election...isn’t really a competent representative. We’ve come to accept this as normal.

Excellent insight. And there is a certain logic to it.

1. Those who do run for public office nowadays are largely generated by one of two segments -- the legal profession or the grievance industry. Their primary motivations are a.) power and b.) money. To them, politics is a career choice.

2. Politics is not a career choice for Achievers. Achievers simply aren't going to orient their lives around running for public office.

3. And, once achievers have achieved, "public service" is no longer a motivation to run for office. Politics has become a dirty business -- thanks to the media plus the people who inhabit the "profession".

It's depressing that such people end up with control over our lives. But, in retrospect, it is inevitable -- unless the people insist on retaining their freedom.

Give your lives up to the government...and this is what you get.

Lessee...we got Elected Officials accusing Astrophysics with Racism...Multimillionaire NLF Role Models flashing Gang Signs...and the De Facto Spokesman of the Civil Rights Movement threatening to castrate a Black Presidential Candidate. I wonder what another 45 years of Tolerance and Progress will bestow upon us all?

Fellow Commissioner John Wiley Price took great offense, shouting, “Excuse me!” That office, the black commissioner explained, has become a “white hole.”

Commissioner Price was emitting white noise.
