OBAMA TRIED TO STALL GIS' IRAQ WITHDRAWAL [election is over?]
New York Post ^ | 09/15/08 | AMIR TAHERI

Posted on 09/15/2008 2:03:51 AM PDT by Enchante

WHILE campaigning in public for a speedy withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, Sen. Barack Obama has tried in private to persuade Iraqi leaders to delay an agreement on a draw-down of the American military presence.

According to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Obama made his demand for delay a key theme of his discussions with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad in July.

"He asked why we were not prepared to delay an agreement until after the US elections and the formation of a new administration in Washington," Zebari said in an interview.

Obama insisted that Congress should be involved in negotiations on the status of US troops - and that it was in the interests of both sides not to have an agreement negotiated by the Bush administration in its "state of weakness and political confusion."

FYI, I am listening to Glenn Beck on WFLA and the bottom-of-the-hour news (Fox News syndicated, but a local anchor) mentioned the NY Post article and Obama’s request for a delay. It may hit the MSM after all...

Mr. Zebari’s Message
Iraq’s foreign minister has a chat with Barack Obama

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/06/17/AR2008061702034.html

“.....To do that, the Democrat needs to listen more to dedicated Iraqi leaders like Hoshyar Zebari, the foreign minister — who, it seems, didn’t hold back during their telephone conversation.

Mr. Obama laid out his current strategy for Iraq in November 2006, shortly before announcing his candidacy for president. At the time, Iraq appeared to be on the verge of a sectarian civilian war, and Mr. Obama was trying to distinguish himself in the Democratic primary race by offering a timetable for withdrawal. Nineteen months later, the situation in Iraq has changed dramatically, with violence down 75 percent from its peak and the Iraqi government and army in control of most of the country. But Mr. Obama has not altered his position: He still proposes withdrawing most U.S. troops according to a fixed timetable, set to the most rapid pace at which commanders have said American forces could be pulled out.”

Hmmmmmmmm.........

So, the leftist Dems and Hussein Obama are willing to kill US soldiers if it helps put Hussein Obama in the White House.

Have I got that straight?

Of course. Their strategy all along has been to try to ensure that there is a debacle in Iraq while Bush is in office (tactics include cutting funds for troops, undermining morale at home and among the troops, falsely maligning the troops, etc.)

They are also cavalier about putting the safety of US civilians at home in jeopardy, in hopes that another terrorist attack will be bad for Bush (witness the revelation of classified national security matters on the front page of the NY Times.)

They don't give a sh*t about the welfare of Americans - just about power and perks for themselves. And if that means assisting an enemy, so be it. As Lenin said, he would make an alliance with the Devil himself if that meant gaining power.

Don't count on it today..."Karl Rove said McCain's ads went too far" is the new Dem & Drive-By talking point of the day. Meghan Kelly was drilling Tucker Bounds just now like he was on trial--she was so irate, I turned her off.

Karl Rove stated to Chris Wallace that Barry's email ad went too far and pointed out McCain's POW injuries preventing him from typing on a keyboard. He also said that Barry meant that Sarah Palin was a pig in his "lipstick on a pig" comment. Karl concluded by saying that both sides were going too far but never said where McCain's ad were doing so. So thanks for nothing, Karl.

Hrm, seems little has changed in the lefty-sphere since Kerry’s “private” negotiations with the communist Vietnamese.

a damning story about Obama is going to be released before the election.

...the right wing is supposed to bite on it

eventually it will turn out to be false

the right will be left with egg on it's face and BHO will get a push.

Are you sure this isn't one of Nostradamus' prophecies?

This needs to be bumped. Obama was trying to influence a foreign nation to alter United States policy to benefit him politically.

I think President Bush should come out and make a statement.

This would FORCE the MSM to cover it.

Not that anyone cares, but I’m speechless. It will take time to overcome the stunning shock of the Left using a foreign War for their own political advantage, while pretending to be “anti-war” at home...

But the Obama argument will be that he IS part of the government, sits on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and thus has a legitimate responsibilty in "clarifying" and "exploring" issues with foreign governments.

Except he is not an emissary, sent with the authority of the White House, such as ambassadors, his contact, whatever it may have been or will be is illegitimate, and that is the point that so many in this country have failed to understand. (Not you specifically, cookcountry, just using your comment to make my points). When the White House allowed Jimmy Carter, private citizen, to go flying around here and there and act as though he still held authority, though he was no longer president, did not curtail him ... when Jesse Jackson, private citizen, was not called back to the U.S. and charged ... when Pelosi, Speaker with no Executive authority was allowed her photo-ops and no one held her accountable ... these situations have occurred time and time again, the American people seemingly unaware, ignorant of the fact that not only is this unconstitutional, but illegal. Until someone gets serious and starts charging Americans with violating the Logan Act, prosecuting them, it will continue to occur.

The rest of the world does not know, comprehend the strictures of our Constitution, they don't know that when some former or current high-ranking official shows up at the palace, he is not authorized to negotiate nor even discuss issues on behalf of this country. They are going on the idea that Senator So-and-So, Congressman Nonesuch is part of our government and therefore, perfectly acceptable, we get the messes we do when, in foreign relations, we as a nation do not speak with one voice. Members of Congressional committees, regardless their length of service, have no foreign policy experience whatever by DESIGN. Biden has foreign relations knowledge, connections due to the length of time he's been on that committee, but as he has never served in the State Department, as an Ambassador, he has no foreign policy experience, no matter how many in the lamestream attempt to push this claim.

Obama: Congress should be involved in negotiations on the status of US troops.

Nope. No constitutional provision for that, Sen. Obama.

Obama: The constitution means what I say it means - it all depends on who is in control [ala the Cheshire Cat].
