PHILADELPHIA (AFP) — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Saturday thanked his Republican rival John McCain for urging supporters to be respectful and stop hurling abuse at Obama at his rallies.

"Now, I want to acknowledge that Senator McCain tried to tone down the rhetoric yesterday in his town hall meeting and I appreciate his reminder that we can disagree while still being respectful of each other," Obama said.

My friend who likes Obama said he liked Sarah Palin but was sorry she took the “slime” route by associating Obama with Ayers. This after Palin received the most vicious sliming in modern political history!

I hope you mentioned that to him and I would ask him what is Slime about the TRUTH--doesn't he want to know exactly what the background is for somebody that is running for President --this ain't for president of the local Lions

Why would any of those “all important” independents vote for McCain when he says we have nothing to fear from Obama, a decent, honorable, family man? He sounds more like Obama’s running mate than his opponent. are we just supposed to be silent and pretend he dosen’t say this garbage?

I've said it for months... There will be NO 527s... Zero... A few tried early on, and not only did McCain smack them down and called them liars, but he apologized to zeroH for them...

Now, given backdrop, why would anyone spend their money on these ads???

“You better have more that a 30-06 if you plan on using it around my neck of the wooods.”

Well, since I have no inclination to bag a mastodon or a brontosaurus, my venerable old .30-06 has served me very well for many years, and has taken whatever I wanted to take.

Yes it has changed a lot for sure. for one thing, the road is closed at the old highway 39 road. You can’t get over to Wrightwood anymore. That part was the most interesting. You can’t get to Dawson Saddle or Baden Powell from the west. I’m sure the funding to keep the road open went to save the whales or something......

Has anyone ever actually heard someone say that? Or is it just an assertion by some columnist the other day?

“And the folks who are spreading this ‘revolution’ carp are in the Saul Alinsky - Woodlawn Organization school of manipulation.”

I think you’ve made it clear where you would have stood in 1776. But, we are not at the point where open rebellion would be necessary (but that’s not to say we won’t get there). Sometimes it is necessary for patriots to pledge their lives, fortunes, and scared honor and embrace a cause greater than themselves. I wonder if you would ever find such a cause? if the time comes, perhaps you will be found wanting.

He's given up both of his key issues...

1. Selecting Palin, in hindsight, was a complete disaster.... She's fantastic, but not on his ticket... McCain wanted to pick someone who won't fight him on not fighting back... She also doesn't have anywhere the gravitas or experience to lead in a time of crisis... Romney would have been a better choice, but he would have POuNDED ZeroH and Biden 24x7, and McCain couldn't have that..so... He acquiesed on the experience issue.... 2.. The character issue.

I expect him not to sound more like Obama’s running mate than his opponent. The pap he drooled out about Obama, yesterday was absolutely over the top.

“But if you tell verybody that this is a war, it will be no presidential election anymore...”

But, it IS a war; just not a hot one.

That goof could cause McCain the election. In the meantime Obama is the good cop while his associated and friends are the bad cop and doing everything they can to destroy Palin and McCain. Please someone tell him.

I know what an A-4 is, having participated in mock dogfights with some when I was in F-4s. Hell, I did some ‘dogfight’ training against Jaguars and Canadian F-18s while in EA-6Bs, which most assuredly had NO air-air capability...

“You can’t get over to Wrightwood anymore.”

Ah, yes, Wrightwood. I spent many a time in Wrightwood in a friend’s cabin and a belly full of beer. Ah, youth! It is wasted on the young. :)

A cabin and a belly full of beer....The only thing missing is a lake full of trout.

Positive, but, behaving according to that on the highest political level would kill the election (in the best case) or push 0 in office (in the worst case), and not help McLame being elected...

> I’m at work with a lady who is watching Obama videos on the net. AAARRRGGGHHH!

I feel for you, I have this problem exactly. I am STEEPED in workplace Obama. I’m trapped in the heart of Silicon Valley, liberal land USA, and on top of all the other bad news these days I have to suffer an entire office full of giddy Obama-droids with stickers and buttons and POSTERS for cryin out loud, goading me at every turn because they know I am conservative.

I am SO close to moving to a reasonable state and consulting, although in these times giving up a stable job with a good salary is madness.
