WASHINGTON (CNN) -- On the day that President-elect Barack Obama visited the White House, a new national poll illustrates the daunting challenges he faces when it becomes his home next year.
Only 16 percent of those questioned in a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Monday say things are going well in the country today. That's an all-time low. Eighty-three percent say things are going badly, which is an all-time high.
"The challenge Obama faces has never been greater. No president has ever come to office during a time when the public's mood has been this low. In the 34 years that this question has been asked, the number who say things are going well has never fallen below 20 percent," said Keating Holland, CNN's polling director.
The 83 percent saying things are going badly is "more than in 1992, when the first President Bush was ousted because of 'the economy, stupid.' That's more than in 1980, when President Carter got fired after the malaise crisis. That's more than in 1975, after Watergate and the Nixon pardon," said Bill Schneider, CNN senior political analyst.
So far, Obama seems to be meeting the public's high expectations. Two-thirds of all Americans have a positive view of what he has done since he was elected president, and three-quarters think he will do a good job as president.

we just elected a socialist-in-chief. of course we’re headed in the wrong direction.
Buyer’s remourse is starting to settle in - even before the Obama love fest that will be Jan 20nd.
The media will begin to propagandize the public opinion toward a more ‘favorable view’ after January 20, 2009. (eye roll)
Accomplishments as editor of Harvard Law Review: zero
Accomplishments as state senator: zero
Accomplishments as US senator: zero
Accomplishments in first week as President-elect: zero
This is his track record of meeting high expectations. But the media worships him as a living god, so I guess I'll just put on a big ol' grin.

He’s done something since being elected?
Im not wishing this on him but I do not want to think about what happens when he starts screwing thinks up. I think minorities will always support him but beyond that I think racial tension may arise. I just dont think people realize how bad this situation with the economy may get. I think it is going to get a lot worse.
I disagree. He's accomplished quite a bit. He's changed his whole agenda. Or, at least hidden it. He's managed to alienate millions of people already. He's insulted Nancy Reagan. He's called himself a "mutt".
He's well on his way to the ruination he promised.
LOL!!!! Well, if they like that he hasn't done anything yet then they will be pleased with 4 years of either nothing or his lies bearing fruit.
They’ll be blaming Bush for the next 4 years and claim every failure of Hussein’s is merely that Bush scewed things up so badly it takes time to clean it up.
Ok, what has he done besides ridicule an honored First Lady with a deliberate falsehood?
Setting the bar very low so that no matter what Obama does, he will be viewed favorably. This is not 1932.
DITTO
WE ARE SAVED FROM FREEDOM! THE MESSIAH HAS COME!
This is hard to read. Obama right now wants everyone terrified and pessimistic. That's how GWN got the bailout biill through and how Obama plans on ramming his agenda through. We have an uphill climb but one benefit over the past few years.
The only thing Ive seen he has done is make plans to have a basketball court installed, which may I add is a BIG TICKET ITEM. This is so he can play basketball with NBA Players. I think they said he is getting rid of the bowling alley. Now there's an accomplishment for all us non-bowlers.

CNN, You ass holes! YOU contribiuted to causing that mood with your efforts to beat down President Bush and get a socialist elected!
YOU ARE TO BLAME for taking the sheeples hand and leading them down the path of discontent, even while they enjoyed a great economy over most of Bush's two terms AND no rag head tried to kill them.
