But why? Why run home to jump through these hoops? Why not just have the child naturalized if us citizenship is later an issue (which they might not have thought would be an issue, since mom was American). Even with the Kenyan birth, mom’s citizenship makes him a citizen, though perhaps not natural born. There would be no hurry to register the birth in Hawaii, so why would dad leave mom in the hospital (woman stayed in for about a week back then) and leave her in a strange country?

Do you really think they were trying to ensure that he be considered natural born in 1961? It just doesn’t make sense.

The papers received a report each week from the Bureau of Vital Statistics listing births, deaths, marriages and divorces, statistics the Bureau gathered from hospitals, funeral homes and courts. In turn this information was given to the papers and then printed each Sunday.

It’s not unreasonable to expect that the Bureau of Vital Statistics would provide info from COLBs filed as well.

And I believe that his mother was crafty enough to want to make sure she registered his birth in Hawaii so he could be a US citizen. She was no dummy. Radical, but not stupid.

No, I don't think they were trying to ensure that he be considered natural born in 1961. The registration of a foreign birth in Hawaii might have made the baby and the family eligible for state benefits otherwise unavailable at the time.

Naturalization would have been another issue. If born in Kenya, baby Obama would not be an American citizen at birth under the law in effect at the time. I presume he would have had to meet legal US residency requirements before he could have been naturalized some years later. There is no record, to the best of my knowledge, of a later occurrence of such a naturalization.

In so far as the time spent by mom in the hospital after delivery, the custom may have been entirely different in Kenya than in the US at the time. We can only speculate on why she would return to Hawaii so quickly after the birth, but one reason might be that she was supposed to come home earlier (to begin classes at the U of H, perhaps) but went into premature labor while in Kenya.

Looks like he was born on the sidewalk. ;-) Seriesly, wouldn't this birthplace be covered extensively by the msm, submitted as a historic site etc. as the 1st home of the "one"?

The birth announcement was printed 9 days after birth.

Not necessarily.

The Announcement was 9 days after the REGISTRATION of the Birth.

We don't know where or when he was born since we have no document signed by an attending physician...

He may be using his birth REGISTRATION date as his Birth date - we don't know..

FYI, World Net Daily had an article yesterday which was posted as the start of an FR thread. It was on the subject of the specific Hawaii address given in the birth announcement.

From an interview with a person who lived next door to that address from before the birth until present, there is no recollection nor record of Obama's family being there at any time. Thus the address in the birth announcement is probably incorrect and you'll have to look elsewhere for the "manger." (LOL!)

Obama was reputed to have been born in Mombasa, Kenya, in a hospital.

Reputed by who? What the grandmother is alleged to have said is that Obama is "a son of this village." Not Mombasa. Or does the metaphor only extend a few hundred miles?

The announcements in the Honolulu papers were not like that. They are not celebratory announcements. They are gathered by the vital records bureau then given to the papers to print. You can’t get one put in by request or payment.

*shrugs* I don't know that one way other the other.

Here, the hospitals were queried for the information, and our announcement was simply added to the rest... Ours was not a celebratory announcement, and was not paid for either. It was indiscernible from the rest of the entries, which was my observation, and why I thought it pertinent to the discussion.

It seems odd to me that no hospital claims any record of his birth. If announcements were handled there like they were here, his mother's folks could have easily called the papers to have the birth announced, no matter where the mother and child were.

I also find it quite believable that his Muslim father would not have him born a bastard, and in his mind, would be quite demanding that his consort come to Kenya to become his second wife so that his offspring would be born legitimately, and under a Muslim banner. This sort of thing is done all the time.

I can also equally see the young and impressionable mother being all too accommodating, as this too, happens all the time.

The only thing that really stands in evidence against such a scenario is her return, with her son, to the USA. Women in a Muslim system are little more than chattel, and it is not likely that she would be allowed the independence to return, not to mention doing so with her son. But then, my knowledge in these matters center more upon Arabic nations. Perhaps African nations are less severe.

One way or another, this aspect, the customs which cause Muslim men to bring foreign women back to their nation of origin, is fertile ground for motive in this matter.

That she went on to marry another Muslim, and move abroad, leads me to believe in her attraction/conversion to Islam, and lends credence to the same scenario happening in the first instance (with Obama I) as well.

While I admit that this is not evidence, it is enough to lean my suspicions in favor of my fellows here on this thread- Those who believe Obama needs to provide more proof of his eligibility.

This is my first real declaration of my position, btw. I have not been particularly vocal on these threads, but I do believe that Obama's particular circumstances require greater scrutiny than has presently been demanded of him, or of the process.

It seems a simple matter to me, and one that all parties involved should be eager to resolve. That certain parties are not forthcoming only lends fuel to the fire, and provides the pall of illegitimacy to this presidency- Something none of us can afford in these troubling and divisive times.

Thanks for your reply.

The original image of the Honolulu Advertiser birth announcement first showed up on July 22, on TexasDarlin’s blog. There were two images shown: one was a full-size shot (actually half a page), and the other one was a close-up of just Obama’s inline ad:

http://texasdarlin.wordpress.com/2008/07/23/obama-was-likely-born-in-hawaii/

That was the first time and place I saw it, and so did Factcheck as they posted a direct link to TD's blog in their "Born in the U.S.A." article of August 21.

I can tell you, unequivocally, that the close-up shown was not made from the full page image. It is way too clean and missing artifacts that should be prominently shown: right there, that is a big, red flag.

If you enlarge the Obama announcement, you will see a telltale artifact running across the top of it that looks like it was part of another ad that was not totally cropped off, but got left in. The artifact appears to be part of a fold line running horizontally across the entire image (the missing 2nd fold line? LOL!).

Searching across the entire image turned up no other similar artifacts.

I’ve got an image of the Star Bulletin with the same listings of birth announcements, but no date is shown to identify when the Bulletin posted them. Logic dictates that they got them from the same source as did the Advertiser, which would be Vital Statistics, but my gut says that the Star Bulletin simply copied them the Advertiser.

It is not a big deal, really, except that, like the bogus COLB images, one single image spawned a bunch of copies.

SPEAKING OF COPIES, I revisited Snopes.com. The had to have come late to the party given where is their head. Now, you know that I researched everything I could get my hands on, and I never heard anything about Snopes when I was investigating the bogus copies posted on the Daily Kos, Fight The Smears (FTS), Factcheck, and Politifact. In their article, they claim that it is a response to emails collected from June 2008, except they have freely copied info from FactCheck's "Born in the USA" article that appeared on August 21. "June 2008, my asterisk!" BUT, and here's where it gets interesting. The copy of Obama's bogus COLB that SNOPES.COM has posted on their website is the ORIGINAL image BarackObama.com displayed on June 12 — that 1000 x 1024 pixel image I originally saw on June 12, which was summarily pulled the following day and replaced with one half its size and disproportional (585 x 575) when Fight The Smears officially was launched. In other words, confirmation of what I claimed back on June 20. OK, now back to the birth announcement. In addition to the artifact above the Obama birth announcement, the “m” in "Obama" has a distinctive gap on the top of the upper left “arch” of the “m” that appears in no other lower case “m” on the entire page. That gap is totally missing on the close-up, along with all of the JPG artifacts that are hard to ignore on the full-page image. In other words, somebody cleaned up and enhanced the close-up image, raising even more questions as to its authenticity. I would love to contact the other parents on the list of announcements to know what are their children's CERTIFICATE NUMBER, and if they ever met Stanley or Obama Sr. at the hospital where their child was born. Bottom line: that artifact above the Obama birth announcement is highly suspicious, especisally when it does not appear on close-ups.
