President Obama Jokes About Being a Bad Bowler: 'It's Like the Special Olympics'
ABC ^ | March 19, 2009 | Jake Tapper

Posted on 03/19/2009 7:06:51 PM PDT by cdchik123

The first appearance by a sitting president on "The Tonight Show" may well end up being the last.

President Obama, in his taping with Jay Leno Thursday afternoon, attempted to yuk it up with the funnyman, and ended up insulting the disabled.

Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he's gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley.

He bowled a 129, the president said.

"That's very good, Mr. President," Leno said sarcastically.

It's "like the Special Olympics or something," the president said.

When asked about the remark, the White House said the president did not intend to offend.

"The president made an off-hand remark making fun of his own bowling that was in no way intended to disparage the Special Olympics," White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton said. "He thinks the Special Olympics is a wonderful program that gives an opportunity for people with disabilities from around the world."

Facing tough questions about the performance of his Treasury Secretary, $165 million in bonuses for AIG officials and anticipating a fight over his $3.55 trillion budget, the president has not had a particularly good week, and it's unlikely this will help matters.

Just imagine what the reaction would be if President Bush had said this...

So this tape is owned by NBC - according to Greta Van Sustern of Fox News, they didn’t provide her with that clip. More evidence of how in-the-tank the media is for this guy.

wait until Glenn Beck gets wind of this...he has a 'special needs' child. Beck has three hours of radio AND an hour on FNC tomorrow night. Then there is Sarah Palin...OMG.

Oh wow, that's right. I hope Glenn Beck goes after President Teleprompter with a vengeance...

$500,000 book bonanza; Deal reached 5 days before he (Obama) took office...

He should donate it all to Special Olympics!

I think even the Leftists are waking up to the fact that Obama is wants to control of this country and he’s not going to share power.

Winstons Julia says,
“I think there are many people who are so smart they’re stupid. I believe Obama may be one of them.

The Kennedys are strong supporters of the Special Olympics, I’m sure they’ll be OUTRAGED about this comment.

Not. Holding. My. Breath.”

My comment: Glad to see that the classless “inbreds” have the time or money to support a worthy cause.

Obama’s arrogance is showing again. Add making light of kids with special needs to the list. He called an adult female journalist, “sweetie” like she was a child. He flipped off his opponents like school kids do on the playground. He gave the blind PM of England DVD’s in the wrong format as a gesture of friendship btw allies. He's just so immature, arrogant, callous and clueless.

Does anyone else remember how ape-shit liberals went when Bush made fun of some guy who was wearing sunglasses because of some visual disorder they had? I mean, Bush didn’t even know the guy had a disorder and the disorder he had was as obscure as you can get. Someone needs to get Drudge to find that story about liberals getting all upset over Bush making that comment.

“At a press conference this morning, President Bush needled Los Angeles Times reporter Peter Wallsten after he stood up to ask a question wearing sunglasses. “Are you going to ask that question with shades on?” Bush said, telling Wallsten, “I’m interested in the shade look, seriously.”

But as Wonkette first noted, and which ThinkProgress subsquently confirmed, Wallsten is legally blind. Wallsten tells us he has a rare genetic disorder called Stargardt’s Disease. The disease is a form of macular degeneration that can be slowed “by wearing UV-protective sunglasses and avoiding exposure to bright light.”

Wallsten said Bush’s comments did not offend him at all. “I never advertise it to him. I’ve never told him.””
