LOS ANGELES - Michael Jackson, defined in equal parts as the world’s greatest entertainer and perhaps its most enigmatic figure, was about to attempt one of the greatest comebacks of all time. Then his life was cut shockingly — and so far, mysteriously — short.

He was a unique, fascinating star... and the best entertainer to come along since Elvis.

I am so glad the Internet wasn't around when Elvis died.

Jackson was a man with a troubled mind.

I’m gonna guess that George Tiller, even though in church, probably didn’t repent over all the babies he killed. I wonder if MJ repented over his activities with little children?

What I find bizarre, is the incredible amount of debt. It has been reported that his debt is in excess of 500 million, which is equal to his entire lifetime of earning. This has to be some kind of record, to burn through a full billion dollars in a short 50 year life. Wow.

There are more important issues to be concerned with right now: Cap-and-Tax, Obamacare, Amnesty...etc.

These things concern America's future far more than the death of a troubled pop singer.

When was he last relevant? 20 years ago? He’s been a sideshow act since then. This has about as much impact on pop culture as Clara Bow’s death in 1965. Both were once stars who had outlived their fame.

Death of an icon? Or death of a country by a thousand cuts while addle-brained celebrity watchers worship at the alter of a dead singer—ignoring what is going on in Iran, North Korea, and what congress is doing in our country? It isn’t just that Nero (Obama) is fiddling. Everyone is. And our country is suffering.

"The family has announced that since Michael was already 90 percent plastic, they will be melting him into Legos so little boys can play with him for a change."

LMAO! The Micheal Jackson lego-cy.

Sorry, an icon is an image of a saint.

This man was a vile pederast who was ruined by his ridiculous fame-seeing family as a very young child. I have trouble mustering much sympathy for him.

May God have mercy on his soul.

I agree - and if he finds that peace that passes all understanding, it may be the first peace of any kind he has ever known - what a pity.

as for “icon?” - just what kind of icon will it be??

I agree. There was ZIP on the news last night except all Michael Jackson all the time. I liked his music, but I think far too many Americans get so caught up in celebs it’s almost scary. There are so many more important things going on, and I don’t care if people talk about it, and feel sad (I do, he was very talented but had a troubled life) but goodness, our country is getting a big bad dose of Hopey/Change and all of the so called news stations (including Fox) could talk of nothing but this? Wow....
