Palin to RESIGN as Alaska Governor
Real Clear Politics ^ | July 3, 2009

UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.

ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.

The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.

Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

I wonder if she’s quitting as AK Gov to do something like head an organizing committee for Tea Parties and such under the umbrella of SARAH-PAC.

(still hoping this is a crazy-as-a-fox head-fake move)

The Left now has a new tactic that I bet they will try again and again, now that it worked with Palin.

If they can't win at the ballot box, they try to win in the courts. If they can't win in the courts, they hound the winner out of office by bankrupting them with frivolous lawsuits and ethics charges?

So you have no problem with a leader quitting over July 4th weekend?

What if the fouding fathers quit on July 4th?

If there was any leadership, we would ride them the entire weekend.

Except most people don't care on the 4th of Juiy.

And tomorrow are also the Tea Parties!

I agree.

She has faced an onslaught since the RNC, and she has withstood everything they have thrown at her.

She isn’t the type to duck and run.

Wow. A year and a half left in her term. This is not done to further one’s political career. Awful news for 4th July. Although, if done for the sake of her family, definitely good.

Her brother is on Fox claiming that she is basically burnt out from all of the time she is spending defending herself. He says that Sarah and her staff spend more then 80% of their time on the stream of attacks rather then governing Alaska.

He says there is no ethics issues that are going to pop up and that she isn’t resigning to run for higher office.

Hillary - stones?

That's a laugher.

Remember all those “foreign trips” every time the heat was on her?

But it’s a good bet as any she’s planning to run for the presidency.

Listening to her brother on Neil Cavuto's show, sounds like she's just had it and wants to protect her family from any more of the insanity.

It's pretty hard to spend the requisite time in the contiguous 48, building alliance and earning chits, if one lives in Alaska, let alone serving as a sitting governor.

Yep you have to spend most every weekend up in NH during the run up year for the primary. Kinda hard to do when living in the far northwest.

AK is the 47th ranked state population wise and the mayors of 17 cities have more constituents than she does. Her future at least in the beginning on a national level will have to be waged from the lower 48. This maybe the precipice to that beginning.

Can you say “all in”?

This is a “faith” move, if I ever saw one.

She has been Called.
///////////////

I go for this explanation. It would be in character with what we have seen from her so far.

She can be a candidate or she can be a governor but she can’t be both.

She has already set up the big pipeline deal. That ‘s the real mover.

So, who's the next governor with a light warchest who can be driven out of office with costly charges?
