Palin to RESIGN as Alaska Governor
Real Clear Politics ^ | July 3, 2009

UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.

ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.

The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.

Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

How bout hearing what she says rather than the pundiots?

She really didn't say anything other than that she's resigning. She has no one but herself to blame that the pundits are running wild with speculation, because she left a big vacuum that the news media has no choice but to instantly fill with whatever it can scrounge up.

I think this is an interesting move.

So long as she’s governer of Alaska, she will be constrained by parochial issues and distracted from her presidential ambitions.

If she’s running for president, this might be the best move. Yes, her critics will paint this as quitting. Her supporters will continue to support.

But running for President will require her to meet the lower 48. I’m sure she realizes that there’s a large part of the population that does not connect with her. She certainly knows that her time should not be spent studying to be a policy wonk. Romney will kill her on policy debates. Instead, her strength is in connecting with her audience. She cannot do that constantly defending herself in Alaska.

Personally, I would have liked her to “disappear” for awhile only to unveil herself later. I think now is way too soon to be actively campaigning for President.

“But I will also say this - In America, nobody likes a quitter. GEN G. Patton said it best:
America loves a winner. America will not tolerate a loser.

And many equate quitting with losing.”

Exactly. One thing conservatives don’t do is quit.

Great speech. She's "not running for re-election." A lot different from resigning. She's preparing to run for president. Man, I love her tone. She's free of the McCain campaign, the muzzle's off, and she's going after the big dogs.

I love it. KICK ASS Sarah!

Is this to help the Lt Gov get time in as Gov so he can be reelected?

That's politics, that's why Harry Truman said, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." Sarah is getting out of the kitchen.

Truman dealt with politics of the day, which were not mean spirited, vile, slanderous, libel and in most cases outright lies.

Palin deals with the politics of personal destruction perfected by the liberal left.

Truman never faced that and if he did the party would back him up, as opposed the GOP party actually turning the knife in Palin's back

“Just heard Bill Kristol say that Sarah Palin may be crazy like a fox, and could be a shrewd decision. I tend to agree.”

I also agree. They’ve put a lot of effort into discrediting her, and from all appearances they were getting ready to put her through the beltway shredder and end it once and for all. By the time they finished, there wouldn’t be anything to launch a presidential run from. She just outsmarted them.

Just like you’ve been a HUGE conservative for what? a month now, right? I know you guys think we’re all hicks and junior high dropouts, but that’s painting with an awful broad brush. OTOH: If you are truly a Palin fan, you should know that it’s almost impossible to be the governor of a large, far-flung state that is not connected to the lower 48 and run for the presidency. She chose her path, be happy for her and for the Republic.

Romney doesn’t know what to with Palin for 2012. Probably hope for Huckabee to come in and split the conservative vote, so he takes the nomination - a la McCain in 2008.

LOL. A Romney troll?

Prove to me where I support Mittens in any way.

FYI, until 2 weeks ago, I was a big Sanford guy. You can go back and see me trashing him plenty to.

I don’t tolerate this type of behavior from conservatives, and I tend to be very hard on conservatives when they do dumb things because I expect better

This is a dumb decision, it was a terrible speech amongst animals, and you are gonna have to convince me that someone did not cut the feed from her rambling thoughts.
