Palin to RESIGN as Alaska Governor
Real Clear Politics ^ | July 3, 2009

UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.

ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.

The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.

Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

Good, thoughtful post.

Many just want to kick her when she is down. As if she was ever treated with respect from any of them.

A politician has a right to privacy. And, knowing Obama, knowing the radical left, knowing the media, knowing the Clintons, and the democrats - why should the woman take all of that when even the GOP does not stand up for her?

She can be highly effective behind the scenes, and maybe she has big surprises for us in using her talents.

Just my humble opinion ...

Romney-Huckabee is the best chance the Republicans have to stop the Obama machine in 2012.

That said, I will support ANY Republican against the Statist Frontman.

Bill Kristol on Fox, “If I had to guess, I’d say we just saw the opening of the 2012 presidential race.”

For once, I agree with Kristol.

Some people don't realize how much support she has. 3 weeks ago her supporters got two sponsors of David Letterman's show to drop their financial backing of that crap.

And they got Letterman to apologize.

Right, there is all kinds of time to accomplish other things. She can write her book, unencumbered by being a sitting governor. She can travel the country rallying support, raising funds, campaigning for other conservatives. Even now, every time she opens her mouth, the news will be there to record it.

And her Lt Governor now has time to adjust to the job and win the seat in the next election.

Just a few thoughts.

That she was doing what was best for Alaska and the USA. Also, the timing of the announcement (friday afternoon) indicates to me she wants to do this as quietly as possible as she has further ambitions.

She will get mocked for this as well, sadly. It is already starting. This dude on Fox from the Anchorage Daily News is a real jerk!

Just saw her announcement shown on Fox.

She seems to be saying two things. First, she is claiming what she ran on has been accomplished. Second, she is saying as she plans to move on to new things, she's not going to do it on the backs of Alaska taxpayers - they pay for a full time governor and deserve exactly that.

Maybe a beginning to "the campaign", and if so it is groundbreaking.

I think she’s following through with her beliefs - her stepping down would benefit Alaska. Too much time and money that should be going to benefit Alaska is being diverted to defending false accusations. She isn’t following traditional lame duck governors.

I got the feeling that she is still going to be about the business of building up our country, and those who support liberty.
