How Can Glenn Beck Be Right on So Much and Yet Still Believe the book of Mormon? (serious question)

Posted on 10/26/2009 7:51:02 AM PDT by Scythian

I'm a huge Beck fan, in fact I'm listening right now here

http://www.ksfa860.com/common/gap_streamer.php

but something really confuses me. It takes the ability to use real critical thinking to know what Beck (and most of us know about the state of the country and where we are heading). That is, we have the ability to discover the truth no matter how much the media or conventional wisdom try to hide it. Yet on Mormonism, Beck is cleary wrong. Any Christian knows that the book or momonism is severely flawed and that Joseph Smith was no prophet. How can Beck cut through all the chaff of what is going on in our world and come to the truth and yet believe the writings of Joseph Smith? It doesn't make sense? I'm not saying he's up to something secret, not by any means, it's just that he's so right about so many things and completely wrong on the most important thing. Now, he just said on the air that he believes Jesus is the Savior of the world and that he is Mormon.

I also think that because he is Mormon he is not attacked near as much if he was a Evangelical Bible only believer. Anyway, am I nutz or does Beck being a Mormon seem bizarre?

Mormons love one another, love their neighbors, do their best to follow Jesus Christ and his teachings. They try to render service to members and non members alike. Perhaps this is what attracted Glenn Beck.

My questions about protestants are: Why do you church shop, why can’t you agree on gays, abortion, Calvinism, etc; Why is it that a popular minister has a large congregation, large building, large salary, large home etc; A less talented minister has a small congregation, small building, small home and a small salary. If all churches are true, why the discrimination and why are most protestant churches losing membership in the U.S. Perhaps Glenn was confused.

Perhaps it’s my 83 years that caused me to miss your meaning.
Questions: Why do protestant church shop? Why can’t you agree on Abortion, Gays in the ministry, the method of Baptism. Calvinism, etc;
Why does an eloquent minister =Large congregation, large building, large home and salary. A possibly more spiritual but less eloquent minister =small congregation, small building, small salary, small home.
Perhaps Glenn was confused!

John 1 reads: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth.
1John 14:10 “and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 14:14 the Father sent the Son to be The Saviour of the world. The oneness of The Father and Son is spiritual, Jesus is a separate being “The Son Of God”, and was so named by too many to mention.

You’re hung up on the “works” part of mormonism. The Christian “church” as I understand it is the people. Not bldgs., congregation size, salaries, etc.

I’ve learned that it is better to have someone who is learned in the scripture to teach it than to have a lay person trying to hammer out a “talk” on Saturday night and convey the same interpretation of that topic.

I’ve listened to people who don’t have any clue about the topic they’ve been assigned by the bishopric and it’s painful. When listening to a pastor, reverend, etc. who has made studying, talking and explaining the Word to his congregation it comes across clear and concise. No breaking down into tears and incoherent ramblings.

Again, I wasn’t getting into the theological debate, I was encouraging you to take a hard look at what folks were posting and why. I was also trying to let you know that the folks here are against MORMONISM, not MORMONS.

As an apostate, I can attest to the aspects of mormonism that I find incorrect and distasteful. Fortunately for me, I was apostate long enough that I didn’t flip completely atheist and against the word of God.

I do not believe that we are gods in embryo as the lds teach, I do not know the source of the temple ceremonies that lds teaches is mandatory for eternal salvation. I do not believe that God’s plan for us includes for us to be polygamous in Heaven and to become gods over our own planets. I do know that “two personages” is quite a bit different than “God and Jesus” when describing the first vision. (Why is that by the way?) Why didn’t Joe call them God and Jesus as opposed to “two personages”?

I can agree that abortion is abhorrent, why can’t Harry Reid? Why is there no questioning of the first presidency in SLC allowed? Why are they the only ones who can do the “thinking for you”?

So you see, your own arguments can be turned around and many questions can be asked of you and your religion.

Again, read my original post to you.

I don't know, why can't mormons agree on the application of D&C Sect 132, divine origin of the Book of Abraham, etc?

John 1 . . .

This is a component of understanding the Trinity, that there is a separateness of persons, yet unity of being (ontology).

The oneness of The Father and Son is spiritual, Jesus is a separate being “The Son Of God”, and was so named by too many to mention.

Jesus was both 100% man and 100% God.

I was early to Reagan's campaign for the 1980 nomination. That was happenstance, I just bumped into the right people. Do you know who I found working already in '78? Mormons, Gol darn Mormons everywhere. They already had a full organization set up and running. They were the origional Reaganites.

If anyone wants to find the future of conservativism and the future of the Republican Party, they need look no further than Utah. I say that with a bit of jealousy because they've taken the lead where we should have.

There isn't a darn thing wrong with your people or your religion. Keep your head up.

May God bless.

Yes, there were 16 Mormons in Reagans close associates and cabinet.
Thanks for the confirmation.
God Bless you for the kind words.

Wherever you are, go visit a Bishops storehouse. You will find fresh produce and fresh meat. The canned foods are mostly LDS packed, the bread from LDS bakeries where possible.
Is there anything we can do that you would say-Well Done! I doubt it!

Do you think in another 200 years your grandchildren will still be ranting and raving about Joseph Smith. It must be doing some good, when I joined The Church there were
1 million members, now there are 13 million and growing.

___________________________________________________

Kid the Well done you seek should be from Jesus Christ ...the one in The Christian Bible...

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ Matthew 25:23

My praise will get you nothing...

You should be seeking the approval of God not man...

Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10

The mormons do nothing that others do not also do...

But others dont get a trumpet and shout out to the world how great they are...

Are you doing all this to impress me ???

or are you doing it just to help people in need without a hope of anything in return as Jesus told us to do ???

without a hidden adgenda ???

People who cant pay yyou back ???

Why not start in a third world country somewhere ???

an examination of the motives for doing all that might be in order...
