Oh so now you remember that we have given military assistance to Europe, Korea and SA and Kuwait.
I guess you forgot this though—

“My proposal of the ... zero option sprang out of the realities of nuclear politics in Western Europe,” recalled Reagan. “Now that I was in office and the American-made INF missiles were being scheduled for shipment to Europe, some European leaders were having doubts about the policy. ...Thousands of Europeans were taking to the streets and protesting.”

Events during Reagan’s first term only strengthened this view. Protests mounted in Britain, West Germany and the Netherlands, with hundreds of thousands opposing the missiles. The Dutch government teetered on the edge of collapse. The Germans wavered between renewed support and newly found doubt.

The U.S. withdrawal has put South Korea’s president, Roh Moo Hyun, in an awkward situation. He campaigned on a call for reduction of South Korea’s reliance on U.S. forces, and many of his supporters continue to demand that U.S. troops leave. But faced with an intransigent North Korea that has declared its intent to possess nuclear weapons, Roh reversed his position and unsuccessfully urged the U.S. to delay the move.

That base is a major irritant in relations between the US military and an increasingly hostile local population. Rising anti-American sentiment, especially among the young, triggers frequent violent protests. US forces stationed in Korea are at mounting risk of being abused, or attacked on the streets.
“My problem with you “Israel-firsters” is that you believe that whatever is in Israel’s best interests automatically makes it in the best interests of the US. “
I pulled the anti-Semitism card after you pulled the dual loyalty card. And anyone who believes that Liberty garbage is worthy of the canard.
What a surprise — you served the State Dept for five years in Saudi Arabia. The State Dept is notoriously anti-Israel and pro Arab. That is not in US interests but in the interests of the personnel who go on to be employed by Gulf money. You appear from your various posts to be a Saudi firster.
The bases are in Our interest because we have decided that those countries defense is our interest. It is in our interest as well to defend Israel or so we have always said. But the difference is that Israel does not require, in fact does not want, US bases or personnel. Unlike Europe, SKorea, or Japan, Israel has taken responsibility for its own defense.
I do not even agree that defense of Western Europe is in our interest. It is against our interests post USSR. We are only funding their Socialist states.
You really ought to read Victor Davis Hansen (not Israeli or Jewish I might add, not even Evangelical Christian) to gain an understanding of how things work.
Can’t you do any better than that? LOL.
