Ronald Reagan elected 30 years ago ...

Posted on 02/05/2010 3:02:34 PM PST by opineapple

Saturday, Feb 6, would have marked President Reagan's 99th birthday. And being that it was 30 years ago he was elected president, now -- in the age of THE ONE -- would it not be a good time to reflect on that historic event?

February 04, 2010
Remembering Reagan
Phil Boehmke

Ronald Reagan believed in American exceptionalism. Ronald Reagan believed in the American people who are the wellspring of that exceptionalism. Ronald Reagan unapologetically, unswervingly and unconditionally loved America.

In these troubled times there are so many reasons for pessimism. The current administration and their congressional allies have taken our nation down a dark path towards a future that we do not want. In spite of what the Main Stream Media and members of our own government have said, the America of Ronald Reagan is alive and well. We see it in the faces of our neighbors at town hall meetings and tea parties, we read about it in new media outlets like American Thinker, we hear it in the voice of conservative talk radio and we know it in our hearts.

Saturday, February 6th 2010 will be Ronald Reagan's 99th birthday. As we begin the countdown to The Reagan Centennial let us pause to remember the strength, the courage, the integrity, the character, the warmth and the humor that made Ronald Reagan the quintessential American President.

I would like to invite my fellow American Thinker readers and bloggers to take a few minutes and share their favorite Ronald Reagan quotes and memories with us.

Don't ever believe the lies of the left. Remember what Reagan said, it is still morning in America. And it is still VERY true today. The only decline is in the left and their failed ideology.

Just watched 5 minutes of Reagan telling jokes about the Soviet Union. Wish I'd been a little older while he was running things...

It is hard to believe it has been that long. I worked my precinct diligently for R. W.Reagan for all his campaigns for president, God rest his sweet soul.

Uh, no. Reagan was NOT elected 30 years ago today. He was elected in November, 1980. He was sworn in this time of year but that was in 1981, 29 years ago.

Not that it changes the brilliance of the man. I just can’t stand inaccurate headlines like this.

Thank you. I was trying to figure out the last time we either elected or swore a President in on the 5th of February.

I truly believe Republicans could sweep the 2010 congressional elections if
Reagan’s name was a prominent part of every House and Senate seat campaign.

Reagan is loved or admired by 80% of Americans.

Every campaign theme should be a variation of “WIN ONE for the GIPPER.”

He was elected 30 years ago ... 1980.

Saturday being his birthday, I thought this would be a great way to celebrate his election 3 decades ago.

I wrote "elected 30 years ago" but I guess everyone is reading it as if I had written "30 years ago today."

Reagan Legacy Inspires New Generation of Politicians
By Anita Vogel

Five years after his death and 22 years after his presidency ended, President Reagan's leadership style and policies are still influencing the political debate in 2010.

Ronald Reagan's message to a nation mired deep in recession in 1982 still resonates, as another president facing a crippled economy looks for answers and strives to rally the country behind him.

On Saturday, there will be a party at the Reagan Library to commemorate the president's birthday, replete with a band, 21-gun salute, a military fly-over and a keynote address by Elizabeth Dole, transportation secretary in the Reagan administration and a close friend.
