Dick Cheney not sold on Sarah Palin presidency
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | February 14, 2010 | Jimmy Orr

Posted on 02/14/2010 10:51:45 AM PST by kingattax

Former Vice President Dick Cheney said he hasn't made up his mind who he will support in the 2012 presidential election. When asked if he thought Sarah Palin was qualified, he punted. ---

Is Sarah Palin qualified to be president? Former Vice President Dick Cheney answered that question with an artful dodge this morning when he appeared on ABC's This Week.(see video below) "I haven't made a decision yet on whom I'm going to support for president next time around," he said to host Jonathan Karl. "Whoever it is is going to have to prove themselves capable of being President of the United States."

"And those tests will come during the course of the campaigns obviously," he continued. "I think all of the prospective candidates out there have a lot of work to do if in fact they are going to persuade a majority of Americans that they are ready to take on the world's toughest job."

You didn't think you'd get a yes or no on that question, did you? Come on

I can’t agree with that logic. Remember when the Leftists would say, “we support the troops, but not the war” during the Bush administration? How can she support Juan, but not his stupid, anti-American amnesty stanch? The two can not be separated in my mind. And again I ask if she has no effect on anything why go out on a limb for McLame? I have written her off. We just need a candidate who is conservative. Her backing McLame, in my mind takes her out of the running.
God help us. We have little less than three years to find someone to unite the Right against the socialist.

I just noticed there were alot of posts that linked Palin and Obama....they should not be linked at all for they are diametrically opposed.

Saying Palin one ups Obama in experience is truely counterproductive. There is no comparison on effectiveness between the two...she is effective, he is not.

... and the media actually is playing off the experience issue by saying the people don’t want ‘another’ Pres. who needs a learning curve.

We really do need to post more often the battles she’s fought and won...those were not small apples by any means!

If Sara does decide to run, one of the biggest obstacles she'll have to overcome is the voters who will shy away from electing another "first"

You pretty much nailed it again. You don’t advance your cause by, basically, stating that your candidate won’t be as big a foul up as their candidate.
You highlight your candidate’s strengths, and the opponent’s weaknesses.
I wouldn’t be constantly going on about the experience factor for two reasons.
Palin isn’t exactly rolling in a wealth of experience, and the great zero will have 4 years of presidential experience by election day compared to Palins zero.
The focus must be on her ideas, and the great zero’s failures.

We know Palin stood up to those in her own party for what she thought was right, but what exactly did she do..do we know the story? Can we share that story and the favorable results it brought to the people?

We know she took a stand with the oil companies on behalf of the people, but do we know the story? Can we share that story also and what it accomplished for the people?

Currently she still stands up to the MSM and we know that story of course..it's played out every day.

You get my meaning perfectly Scotsman, and stated it much better than I. Generally I can spot when the wind is going in the wrong direction, I can't always formulate my words well enough to strike the cord that's needed to encompass the full impact of what I'm seeing. But you did that exceptionally well in your post. Remember Regan told alot of stories....he knew them to tell as he campaigned...stories sell an idea... so we need to tell Palins stories and get off this comparison thing with Bo...Palin does more than well enough when it comes to ripping Bo and those who oppose her now.

“Cheney didn’t express a preference regarding Palin pro or con. I have no problem with that whatsoever.”

In light of Cheney’s position on DADT, neither do I. I now sincerely hope that Cheney does not endorse her. His endorsement will be an albatross and if he endorsed her, it would put her in the uncomfortable position of having to disagree with him publicly on a huge issue or just repudiate his endorsement.

Romney ought to be Cheney’s candidate. Historically, Cheney has gravitated toward the Fords and the Bushes and away from Reagan (although he, like all the other Bushies, tries to wrap himself in Reagan’s mantle...which is disingenuous per se, given that he opposed Reagan in 1976.)

I tried to find some evidence to confirm my memory that he supported Bush 41 in the 1980 primaries against Reagan as well. I am pretty sure this was the case given his close relationship (through Ford) with James Baker, Bush’s campaign manager in 1980. Cheney was just a first term Congressman at the time and so his endorsement of Bush would not have caused much of a splash, even though he had been White House Chief of Staff, because it would have been expected that one of Ford’s minions would support Bush over Reagan. Had Cheney come out for Reagan over Bush, this would have been big news, which is why I do not believe that he did. Also, he never served in Reagan’s administration, which is odd given the fact that he had high level Executive Branch experience. But as soon as Bush 41 comes along, he is made Sec Def. It makes me think that Reagan or those close to him saw something in Cheney they did not like.

Anyway, I have never been a big Cheney fan since then. I don’t trust him, and this is the reason why.

IMO who endorses a person says a lot less about them than who they endorse.

For instance, it says very little about a person if someone like David Duke prefers them to Al Gore. It says a lot about them if they endorse David Duke.

If Cheney or McCain endorse Sarah, that’s okay. If she endorses McCain, I think that is terrible. And sadly, she has.

My thought on Cheney, is that he is leadership material personified. I am not convinced he would be pulling for my team in total though. To what he extent he actually would be, is up in the air. I agree on that point.

I would caution against relying on your assumption that Palin believes the opposite of what she says about amnesty, in order to decide two years ahead of time who to vote for.

You’re stretching it real thin.

I don’t think I said anything about “Palin believes the opposite of what she says”. I don’t like her being so chummy with The Premier RINO in the US. I see McLame as the glaring example of the problems that Republicans have. We must put as much distance between the Leftist/Liberals and us. Put another way, could you see Rush go out to Arizona and stump for Juan? No Way! For no reason would I or any conservative be seen with that as* kissing gas bag. I can’t figure why Sarah would. If she is counting on me and other conservatives to forget that she is stumping for Juan, she is badly mistaken. Elephants don’t forget.

“If she endorses McCain, I think that is terrible. And sadly, she has.”

It is quite obvious why she endorsed him. It is a matter of loyalty, personal loyalty, which is a virtue beyond whether you support cap and trade and tax cuts. You think a Presidential aspirant, if he is pure on the issues, is free to be a disloyal ingrate. I do not. I think that shows a lack of character. It is an old fashioned quality (a virtue which is far superior in God’s eyes to most political positions) but one I think she shares with very few politicians, one of them being Reagan. That is why I think she is special.

“My thought on Cheney, is that he is leadership material personified.”

Leadership material? I don’t think it is leadership to advocate against the best interest of the military which protects us all, simply because your personal family situation makes it more convenient to do so.

BTW, why did you bring up the McCain endorsement? I detect in your posts a latent hostility to Palin, maybe more than latent. I used to read your posts years ago and you were solidly conservative, against Bush in 2000 as too liberal, if I remember correctly. How is it that you are so blind to Palin’s virtues? Who do you support? I really am curious, because it is not like you, at least not as I remembered you from your posts of several years back.

You said “How can she support Juan, but not his stupid, anti-American amnesty stanch”

Meaning you are convinced she agrees with his position on amnesty.

But the known facts are not enough to conclude this: she has said she’s for legal immigration only, and that she will campaign for McCain.

I advise you to go with the known facts. If you jump to conclusions this early, you’re joining the ignoramuses and the leftists.

If she endorses McCain, I think that is terrible. And sadly, she has.

It is quite obvious why she endorsed him. It is a matter of loyalty, personal loyalty, which is a virtue beyond whether you support cap and trade and tax cuts.

Honest to God, you folks mean well, but you're just plain idiotic.  In your mind individual loyalty now trumps the safety of our nation.  Read up at this link. Then come back to tell me that personal loyalty trumps all this. It doesn't. It simply can't.

You think a Presidential aspirant, if he is pure on the issues, is free to be a disloyal ingrate. I do not.

I'm sure you don't mean to be, but you are being a shill for John MeCain. There's no explaining away his dealings with Soros, Kennedy, Kerry, et at. Those people are intent or taking our nation down. MeCain also said there was nothing to fear from an Obama administration. He also praised Democrats and their policies.

I think that shows a lack of character.

Right. You think it shows character for a Conservative to back a man like MeCain. You know better than that.

It is an old fashioned quality (a virtue which is far superior in God’s eyes to most political positions) but one I think she shares with very few politicians, one of them being Reagan. That is why I think she is special.

In your eyes God favors backing a man who is willing to reach out to those who wish to take our nation down. You also think that is a virtue, Reagan would approve, and this is a special revelation of character. Good Lord.

My thought on Cheney, is that he is leadership material personified.

Leadership material? I don’t think it is leadership to advocate against the best interest of the military which protects us all, simply because your personal family situation makes it more convenient to do so.

Sound leadership skills do not a great leader make if they favor the wrong policies. Sadly you chose to focus on one comment of mine and ignore the follow up.

BTW, why did you bring up the McCain endorsement?

Because there is no justification whatsoever for backing a man like MeCain.

I detect in your posts a latent hostility to Palin, maybe more than latent.

I've been as up front as a person could be with my comments.  None the less you seek to infer latency to my "real agenda".  Har.  Good one.  Your opinion reflects the thought I couldn't honestly be against Palin backing a man like MeCain, unless I had a hidden agenda.  That's just comical.

I used to read your posts years ago and you were solidly conservative, against Bush in 2000 as too liberal, if I remember correctly.

You have an inception date from 2001.  Perhaps you could read in 2000 and draw meaning from it, and did here, even though you reveal that you can't today.  I called em as I saw them with Bush, and I call them as I see them with regard to Palin, Cheney, and MeCain.

How is it that you are so blind to Palin’s virtues?

It's not my duty to push Palin virtues over what I see to be her mistaken actions.  It is my duty to point out people who run interference for terrible policy decisions, like you're doing here.  And it's my duty to make sure people understand how disgusting McCain is and how flawed a decision it is to back a person who will damage the U.S. further with his actions if he achieves another term in office.

You are able to see good things about Palin.  I think most people here are.  Why do you think I need to restate the obvious?

Who do you support?

We are just under two years from having to make a decision on that point, and I am holding off on my decision until then.

I really am curious, because it is not like you, at least not as I remembered you from your posts of several years back.

Since when is it not like me to tell it like it is?  If you've been reading my posts here you'll have seen that I have hoped that Palin would gel into a very sound candidate.  I have also been troubled by some things that I have seen, not the least of which is her backing of MeCain against a good Conservative.

We don't need Snows, Grahams, and MeCains on our side in the U.S. Senate.  Spector was another prick that needed to go until he finally grew a spine and made it official.

Sarah is not showing character here, and the premise she is, is purely political spin to protect her image.  FAIL!
