RedState: Senate GOP Trying To Scuttle “Repeal It” Amendment
RedState ^ | March 24, 2010 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 03/24/2010 5:08:26 PM PDT by LaybackLenny

Senate sources confirm to me this evening that Senator Mitch McConnell and his leadership team are trying to scuttle Republican efforts to force a vote on repeal of the entire health care legislation during the reconciliation process. I’m told reliably that moderate Republican senators who voted against Obamacare in December do not want to vote against it again because it would just be “symbolic”. McConnell agrees and is not inclined to push Republicans to go along with any effort to force a vote on repeal during reconciliation, despite David Vitter offering up an amendment to do just that and separate stand alone legislation being offered by Senator Jim DeMint with a host of Republican co-sponsors.

Vitter’s amendment will be up some time around 10:00 p.m. tonight.

“McConnell agrees and is not inclined to push Republicans”

The spirit of Chamberlain is strong in this one.

Sometimes symbols matter.

Although to be fair, the Senate GOP has been busy “amendibustering” the bill, making Rats go on record again and again as opposing obvious common sense amendments. Like no Viagra to sex offenders.

I'm all for repealing the thing, but did you flunk math or something? There are 41 Republican Senators. Some, like Olympia Snowe wanted to vote for the thing, but were talked out of it. How's it going to look when we call for a vote, and repeal gets 35 or 46 votes?

I can understand why now is not the time to force a vote on repeal since we do not have the votes.

Instead, take a look at what Demint is saying—

140,000 have signed the pledge.

Did it ever occur to you folks who attack Republicans that they are letting things play out in the courts, the elections and public opinion? They waged a wonderful fight to try to keep that monstrosity from passing, even though they had no real power to do so. Now they're fighting strategically instead of just tactically, looking down the road toward November.

McConnell is a ‘moderate’, no fire in the Belly...not quite the RINO of Collins and Snowe, but not a true conservative. BOUNCE HIM!

Yeah, McConnell’s “fighting” alright. Always there with McCain, Grahamnesty and the whole RINO cabal to “reach across the aisle.” Personally, I think it’s past time to severely impair their “reaching across” arms. I suspect McLame called McConnell and told him those mean ol’ conservatives aren’t playing nice with his Dim-o-crap pals.

Do you understand what it takes to repeal a bill?

It wont happen at this time...no chance at all.

If the GOP takes control of both houses and a GOP president? YES, then it will be repealed.

Did it ever occur to YOU that two thirds of these ineffectual emasculated vermin actually WANTED health care to pass but were faking opposition?

More government = more money from the sheep = more power for them. And longer careers and more pension $$$.

The GOP “fighting strategically”? Gee, you mean like they did in 2003, by mustering principled opposition to the prescription drug boondoggle?

Oh wait...

Yeah, I know what it takes to repeal a bill. I also know what it takes to send a message. You’ve got conservative Senators basically being slapped on the hands and otherwise embarrassed by the RINO leadership for getting all uppity.

Explain to me again why anyone wants to remain the OP(formerly the GOP) wing of the socialist Republicrat party? They should be putting up as many roadblocks and stall as much as possible instead they once again just roll over to the socialists/marxists trying to destroy the Constitution. Unbelievable.

True. I heard one today that required the Senators to have the same health care as medicaid. Reid basically laughed at it.

You’re right. We need to be passionate, but we need to be smart, too, and pick the right fights.

No, it won't. They might run on repeal but when the rubber meets the road, no Washington politician is going to take away health care away.

It simply isn't going to happen. Now, we may get some ammendmens, hopefully some constraints as to the damage this thing will do, but it won't ever be repealed.

I see nothing to gain for the republicans in possibly coming up short of their 41 votes on this. Can you imagine the field day the media would have?

Better to think strategically, IMO.

Agree with McConnell or not, the dipstick shouldn’t emasculate his conservative members in public for everyone to see. Take ‘em in the backroom and tell ‘em nows not the time. But to parade the GOP dirty laundry in public just ain’t right. I swear these guys could screw up a one-car parade.

>> It wont happen at this time...no chance at all.

Battles are won by attacking and resisting the enemy REPEATEDLY. With every muscle, every nerve, every sinew.

Not by caving in and playing nice.

Yes, we know exactly what it takes to repeal a bill. And we understand that until the scum Obama is gone, it ain’t gonna happen.

Now YOU explain precisely what the spineless nutless (R)s have to gain by rolling over when they could be FIGHTING and OPPOSING and DELAYING and OBSTRUCTING until that day comes.

This is war.
