It looks like the incubment Parker Griffith is headed for defeat. He’s the U.S. House Representative that was voted in as a Democrat in 2008, but switched to the GOP last year.

Precincts Reporting: 284 Of 326 87% (AL-5th CD-GOP Primary)

(R) Mo Brooks 32,837 51%
(R) Parker Griffith 21,501 33% (incubment)
(R) Les Phillip 10,055 16%

An all Hispanic Republican ticket in minority-majority NM won’t hurt!

Roby and Barber may be headed toward a run off in AL 2, the district held by Dem Bobby Bright who has a big target on his back for Nov.

With 75% in, Roby has 46.5 and Barber 30.2.

I hope Griffith gets trounced. Serves notice to Democrats that you can’t just switch to Republican to save your political hide.

Republican
U.S. House Dist. 3
53% Reporting
* Mullins - 73%
Kokesh - 27%

Kokesh has lost in NM-3, but I was hoping for more of a thrashing.

Who’s this Diane Denish - anything to be concerned about? Or should Martinez be favored to win?

Bentley was the most conservative of the candidates. he is lagging a little behind Byrne and James right now, but still in striking distance.

If he can get into the runoff he will be in very good shape. he should get a good bit of Moore’s support, and James was so vicious to Byrne and vice versa that their supporters may go for bentley and not for the other.

but it is all moot if the runoff ends up Byrne/james, then the choice will be between a loose cannon that shoots before thinking (James) and a former Dem trying to pass himself off as a Conservative (Byrne)

From an earlier post by me:

Sarah Palin was in ABQ last Sunday and gave her support to Susana. IMO Susana has the best chance to win the election in a state where Hispanics and Native Americans are a majority and Anglos a minority. Her positions are conservative and her candidacy is attractive to those who look beyond the primary where the winner will face Richardson’s Lt.Gov who is also a woman.

Susana Martinez On the Issues:

* Smaller government that is open and transparent
* Root out corruption in Santa Fe
* Securing the border a top priority
* Prosecute those who violate our laws (As DA, Prosecutes over 600 cases related to border security every year in her county)
* Repeal the law that allows illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses.
* Opposes providing illegal immigrants with free tuition
* Tougher laws to protect children, the disabled and seniors
* Strengthen DWI laws
* Reinstate the death penalty
* Opposes raising taxes
* Supports cutting spending
* Eliminate programs that don’t work
* Supports balanced budget
* Create new jobs in NM by lowering corporate taxes
* Cut red tape (excessive regulations)
* “A” rated by NRA
* Pro-Life - recommended by New Mexico Right to Life
* Big gov’t not the solution to health care problems
* Individuals need to take responsibility for their own health care.
* Will work to pass tort reform legislation
* Stop throwing money at broken school system – reform it
* Empower parents, raise academic standards, increase school choice and reward best teachers
* Ensure tax dollars go into the classroom, not to a massive education bureaucracy

I don’t think there was necessarily a single candidate to coalesce behind, although maybe Tim James (at least for Religious Conservatives, which would be the same group supporting Moore, but you can’t have an exclusively Religious Conservative Governor, as we saw the problem with Tim’s father, Fob). There was no candidate I was on fire for there, anyway (same problem I have here in TN). I tentatively endorsed Byrne.

MS 1 (Travis Childers-D) voted for McCain over Obama by a margin of 61% to 38%. There’s no way that district should be represented by a DEM. In order for the GOP to have significant gains in Nov., Chiders HAS to be one of the casualties.

Looks like Alan Nunnelee has taken the GOP primary handily with enough to avoid a run off, so that bodes well for a united GOP to take on Childers.
