Cost concerns were at the heart of Idaho State Republican Party delegates' rejection on Saturday of a proposal to form an all-volunteer state militia that's free from federal control.

Idaho GOP is having their convention. I had heard talk about an unregulated militia being part of their platform.
Interesting that they were even considering it, and interesting the reason rejected was because of cost.
The people can form one on their own.
I think funding would still be a big concern. Also, if someone with deep enough pockets were to fund it, then they would essentially have their own state sanctioned private army, and that would probably bother a lot of people.
Estimates are as high as 40,000 here in Michigan consider themselves to be militia members.
Crud. And I was already packed and ready to move to Idaho. :(
Do they have some form of command protocol in place? Are they organised enough to be effective?
unregulated?
You mean state regulated and funded right?
That's the whole point of an unorganized militia. The members arrive with their own firearms and ammo. There isn't an issue of having enough money to form one. People concerning themselves about the money to form a militia are also concerning themselves with how to exert control over the "unorganized" members.
They appear to have enough command and control structure that local police departments call on them for things like search and rescue.
About 15 years ago a bad snow storm stranded motorists on 131 between Cadillac and Big Rapids. Militia members were out on snowmobiles taking motorists to local schools to wait out the storm and feeding truck drivers who wouldn’t leave their trucks.
Cost is the issue? They need to come up with a better excuse.
Here is a link to what it’s costing Virginia for the Army National Guard, Air National Guard, and the Virginia Defense Force (AKA Virginia’s state militia). The VDF is a small piece of the overall total. Once a state has already paid for the fixed costs of having an Army National Guard and Air National Guard, adding a state militia is pocket change.

ARTICLE XIV MILITIA
Section 2.Legislature to provide for enrolment of militia. The legislature shall provide by law for the enrolment, equipment and discipline of the militia, to conform as nearly as practicable to the regulations for the government of the armies of the United States, and pass such laws to promote volunteer organizations as may afford them effectual encouragement.
That’s pretty impressive. I’d like to think that could be done in each state.
When it comes right down to it, its just neighbors helping neighbors. There’s a core group who follow strict orders but there are a lot of others who help out when they can and voluntarily follow the orders.
I know if things ever went south here, I would turn to my neighbor for immediate leadership. Partly because he’s a smart guy I can trust and partly because he has deeper roots in the area than I do and he knows who to go to for leadership in the wider community.
Have you read the posted replies to the article?? Nothing but moonbats - In IDAHO??? What is the world coming to!!
