Revolt In GOP Could Play Into Dems' Hands (Enormous Barf Alert!!!)
IBD Editorials ^ | August 25, 2010 | Leftwing lunatic E. G. DIONNE JR

Republicans are in the midst of an insurrection. Democrats are not. This vast gulf between the situations of the two parties — not some grand revolt against "the establishment" or "incumbents" — explains the year's primary results, including Tuesday's jarring outcomes in Florida and Alaska.

The agitation among Republicans is not surprising, given the trauma of the final years of George W. Bush's presidency. After heavy losses in 2006 and 2008, it was natural that GOP loyalists would seek a new direction.

Liberals who saw Bush's presidency as a failed right-wing experiment thought Republicans would search for more moderate ground, much as Britain's Tories turned to the soothing leadership of David Cameron to organize their comeback.

But this expectation overlooked the exodus of moderates over the last decade, which has shifted the balance of power in Republican primaries far to the right.

As a result, the main critique of Bush in Republican ranks saw him as insufficiently conservative — too inclined to support federal action on education and in expanding prescription drug assistance to the elderly, and too ready to run up the deficit.

The Outsiders

That the deficit increased primarily because of two tax cuts and two wars did not enter their calculation because acknowledging this was ideologically inconvenient. In the meantime, the election of President Obama by a demographically diverse coalition anchored among younger voters helped unleash the furies inside an older, overwhelmingly white and Southern-leaning GOP coalition.

I agree that McCollum is not the bad guy and I wouldnt consider him a full-fledged “RINO” that guys like Crist or McCain are. But he has been a politician for over 20 years. So he became a casulty of the current environment of angry voters wanting new blood at all levels of the government who are promising to shake thing up.

McCollum’s flip-flopping on immigration and running a very negative campaign also hurt him immensely.

His first reaction to the Arizona immigration law was that we dont need that in Florida. Then he did a 180 and said he did support it. And when just a few weeks ago he proposed a law that he claims is every more strict than Arizona’s. That looks really shady to do that kind of turnaround.

Yes, McCollum is a true conservative who was one of the most vocal anti-Clinton congressmen, and he really got shafted by a con/fraud artist last night.

I think Scott can pull it out, and I will hesitantly vote for him because he’s not Alex Sink, but McCollum was the right man for the job and the better candidate in the general election.

Sure there is a revolt.

Kinda like when Roddy Piper put on the glasses in ‘They Live’ and proceeded to kick @ss and chew bubblegum (actually he was all out of bubblegum). So sure, there’s a revolt - we’re trying to clean house of all the backstabbing, traitorous, conniving, weasels like McInsane and the RINO trash. If that’s a revolt so be it. At least we have morals.

As long as the President goes on his merry way, ignoring and insulting the American people, and insisting that he’s special, the Republicans don’t have much to worry about.

“That the deficit increased primarily because of two tax cuts and two wars did not enter their calculation “ ... because it is NOT TRUE.

The stimulus cost more than 7 years of the Iraq war.
The tax cuts were a minor cost compared to the huge deficits we have, which ware driven by the massive spending increases under the Democrat Congress.

McCollum is part of the establishment. He’s spent a lifetime in politics.

True.

I am curious. What's the "barf alert" for? As far as I can tell he's about right in this piece.

This headline is appearing as "news" all across the nation!

There is no mention that it is political propaganda from the Far Left, designed to sway the minds of less-than-informed citizens prior to November.
