The UP moving away from the part of Michigan that includes Detroit.

Who could blame it?

the description of the uplift sounds like something moving under the ground. Tremors anyone? LOL.

Seriously though, that is messed up. I’d really like to see what they find out... if they ever do.

Going to have a nice stream on the property during snow melt. Hope the downstream end of the crack is not pointed straight at the house!

Either that or maybe heavy recent rains? We recieved 10 inches in 2 days and some banks with heavy vegetation slumped because of it-something I’ve never seen before in 35 years of living here.

Are you referring to the Indian burial mounds? We have quite a few here. I was surprised to learn a few years ago that my favourite toboganning hill from my childhood was actually a burial mound.

Probably the best explanation- I vaguely remember hearing that this region is actually rising an inch or so every decade because of that.

This is what I'm thinking, but not the stupid "it all man's fault" kind of GW.

18,000 years ago, that spot was under a 10,000 foot deep glacier and since the glaciers receded 12,000 years ago, the land around the great lakes has continued to rise.

It's called Post Glacial Rebound.

Is someone going to break it to Al Gore that We aren't responsible for 99.99% of glacial melting?
