Trying to keep the C-130 production line alive.
Why - they can still make a copy of the AN-12 (Shaanxi Y-8), which, in turn, is a (bad) copy of the C-130.
I generally remain uneasy about the transfer of any military technology to China, even a plane that was designed over 50 years ago. I doubt they will be receiving any classified technology. But depending on the model of C-130 the Chinese government receives, the Herc’ could still potentially lead to improvements in their own engine design and avionics designs.
More importantly, I don’t like the timing of all this. Would the administration even be looking at this deal if they didn’t need the Chinese to keep buying up our debt?
Just my dos pesos, of course.
They’ll have Spooky gunships before long.
Can the F-22 & F-35 be far behind?
May as well sell the C 130s. As a general proposition I oppose military tech sales to China but the Herc is just too old, and too readily available. Anything they could steal from the planes, they can get anytime now, cheaply.

The two sides [Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Russia] agreed to "promote and enhance friendly relations" in line with the joint declaration of July 19, 2000 and the Russia-DPRK friendship and good neighborly cooperation treaty of February 9, 2000.
Putin and Kim agreed during their talks to promote a Russian- DPRK political dialogue on the Korean issue and international affairs, and discussed many topical international problems, deputy head of the Russian presidential administration Sergei Prikhodko told reporters following the talks.
The two leaders spoke for an independent and peaceful solution to the issue of reunification of the Korean Peninsula, and against "any outside obstacles to this process" as "unacceptable."
If they are talking about selling the J model then that is a lot of aircraft. Full glass cockpit, headsup displays, advanced 6 bladed propellors.
