In final days as House Speaker, Pelosi blames Republican attack campaign for low approval numbers

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi blamed Republican-funded attacks for her low approval ratings Wednesday, moments after Democrats re-elected her to head the party as minority leader in next year’s Congress.

“How would your ratings be if $75 million were spent against you?” Pelosi said, after being asked about her low approval ratings.

An NBC/Wall Street Journal poll taken at the end of October found that only eight percent of independents have a favorable view of Pelosi and just 24 percent of the general population approves of her job as Speaker. In the waning days of the 111th Congress, 73 percent disprove Congress as a whole, according to the Real Clear Politics poll average.

When asked why she decided to run for another term in party leadership despite the low ratings, she replied, “Because I’m an effective leader. Because we got the job done on health care and Wall Street reform and consumer protections. The list goes on. Because they know that I’m the person that can attract the resources both intellectual and otherwise to take us to victory because I have done it before.”

I still can’t believe they actually voted for her. Are they really that stupid? I’m not saying this just because she’s a liberal and don’t agree with those policies. I know lots of really crafty smart liberals. But they really went out of their way to find the dumbest ugliest spokesperson in the country.

Winning the legislature is secondary to winning the dominant media.

Well if the product is just that good, negative ads won’t matter, except to raise your profile.

Well good for the Republicans.

This woman should feel like 12 point buck on opening day.

She should feel like the FBI’s most wanted criminal with a million dollar price on her head.

This woman is a mennis and should be retired with all do speed.

In 2006 the Republicans largely failed to take the lesson of that election. I believe the establishment Republicans failed also to take the lesson of the 2008 election but events and the Obama overreach rescued them from their folly. It now appears that the Democrats are failing to take the lesson of the 2010 election.

Nancy Pelosi is obviously behaving selfishly. She is the poster girl-that's very different from a pinup girl-of all that is wrong with the Democrat leadership and the Democrat party. One can understand how ego might drive her to extend her career beyond its useful life but what cannot be readily explained is why the rank-and-file Democrats in the House have acceded to her selfishness. After all, she is the one that cost them 60 seats with her high handedness and blunders and her risible gaffes. Yet, the House Democrats are saddling themselves with her image in the 112th Congress. Why are they making this gift to the Republicans?

I think it has to do with the present structure of the Democrat party, especially in the House. There are two main legs of their stool: the Congressional Black Caucus and Soros' money. The first is absolutely invulnerable to the ravages of a shocking 60 seat turnover because their seats are absolutely secure. In fact, they are vulnerable only to disaffection from their left, not from the right. Although these African-American representatives no doubt regret the loss of controlling power in the house, they are personally largely unaffected by the reversal of fortune in the 2010 election.

The rest of the Democrat party is in thrall to George Soros by virtue of his control of the 527s which fund the party and also control its public face. It means that there is precious little chance for the Democratic Party to take any lesson from the 2010 election that is not advanced by the Soros' apparatus. Indeed, any maverick who sticks his head up above the parapet will have it shot off immediately.

Hence, it is possible for Nancy Pelosi to retain power.

The Democratic Party has moved away from democracy and has become a kind of mafia, a thuggery, or, as Rush Limbaugh puts it, a criminal enterprise. There is no mechanism in place for reform. It is immune. This is typical of the left and explains the ultimate destruction of the Soviet Union.

Love that picture.... Not only does it show the arrogant evil Pelosi in a Wicked-Witch-of-the-West cackle, but Steny Hoyer is carrying a purse and holding hands with Clyburn (or is that Conyers?).

If any democrat had any grace or common decency.... From this leader, a multi-billionaires Pelosi to President Obama, and we can probably include ole Charlie Rangle - they all play a petty blame-game. I wish they would grow up and accept the responsibility, and the reality of their office and OUR world.

Nothing like an old fool who really believes no one can kick her pedestal out from under her feet.

It’s gonna happen, Pelosi.
