Ethanol is 'good, good, good,' Grassley says

"He said ethanol has been used as a scapegoat by food manufacturers to raise food prices, and that oil companies also have been trying to reduce ethanol production for their own business interests.

"For farmers and for jobs, everything about ethanol is good, good, good," Grassley said. "And now it's a little irritating for me to find some agricultural groups, some livestock groups, that are complaining about it ... But most of those agricultural interests are not family farm interests."

Following a report this week that U.S. corn reserves have hit their lowest level in more than a decade, analysts predict an increase in food prices. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's forecast blamed higher-than-expected ethanol use for the Advertisement decrease in the corn supply, stating that about 40 percent of corn grown in the country is used for ethanol production. What crap. In addition, it costs the taxpayers because it has to be subsidized. Congress should not be picking the winners and losers. The market should do that.

True, free enterprise Conservatism in Iowa is tenuous at best. Even those cloaked in the GOP banner come from a long line of "progressive populists" from the upper midwest (such as Bob La Follette) and the grange movement.

Ag welfare abounds in Iowa and its neighboring states.

If ethanol is so great then why did I have to rebuild the carbs on 2 different generators this last week and 2 carbs off my sandrail the week before?

I’m ready to start filing lawsuits against that crap they are calling gasoline these days.

And guess what? It’s gonna get alot worse when the recently EPA approved %15 hits the market.

What really kills me is the governments push for higher fuel mileage vehicles and then turn around and approve ethanol gasoline that causes worse gas mileage.

Freakin idiots....every last one of them!

But the jobs are green...until subsidies die down:
“To turn wood chips into ethanol fuel, George W. Bush’s Department of Energy in February 2007 announced a $76 million grant to Range Fuels for a cutting-edge refinery. A few months later, the refinery opened in the piney woods of Treutlen County, Ga., as the taxpayers of Georgia piled on another $6 million. In 2008, the ethanol plant was the first beneficiary of the Biorefinery Assistance Program, pocketing a loan for $80 million guaranteed by the U.S. taxpayers.

Last month, the refinery closed down, having failed to squeeze even a drop of ethanol out of its pine chips.”

IIRC, appx 60% of the corn supply is now directed toward ethanol production. Sounds like a really good thing doesn’t it? /heavy s
