TOKYO - Nearly two weeks of rolling blackouts, distribution problems and contamination fears prompted by a leaking, tsunami-damaged nuclear plant have left shelves stripped bare of some basic necessities in stores across Tokyo.

Some people are even turning to the city's ubiquitous vending machines to find increasingly scarce bottles of water.

From your Atkins site - “2.If a fire was headed your way and you knew the fire was going to reach and completely destroy your home in about one-hour, then you either abandon your home or you die. It this situation it should only take you a few minutes to put your bug-out-bags into your escape vehicle, along with several cases of food, and then you could head away from the danger zone.”

I highly disagree. You have a one hour lead time on a fire that’s going to destroy everything you own you do not load several cases of food. No way. Food will be easily bought outside the fire zone. What you pack are your family photo albums and anything else you can’t replace. Since he can’t figure that out on page one, I’m done reading.

There are anti-survivalists here? This is not sarcasm, I have never read any comments poo-pooing having a pile of ammo, water, and food “just in case”.

Excuse me, you are right with respect to produce. I am a bit biased being in the automotive industry here in Michigan. Try selling an automobile in Japan.... not gonna happen.

Dollar Store has most everything required to feed oneself or a family of four.

Just went to CVS to pickup some batteries and walked by a sale on Hormel Ham 1# for $4.50. I took 5 and may get some more.

Whatever. Just another opinion.

Your life is more important and that is the point behind most prep articles.

They want you to focus on life saving or life extending practices.

Indeed, I have not heard of any severe shortages from family/friends in Japan either.

Incorrect. There is one severe shortage.

There is a great lack of Crisis and Panic.

We need to airlift some now.

Try selling an automobile in Japan.... not gonna happen.

Try making an automobile with the steering wheel on the right side of the car which fits Japanese roads and compares well in price, performance and quality and then get back to me.

FWIW, the yakuza and a few others like American cars just the way they are, along with a few other minor market segments.

The Germans, BTW, have no problem selling cars in Japan. Could it be it is because they employ somebody besides U.A.W. drones who actually take pride in their work?

Oh, and BTW, I have a bud who works for the Honda plant in Marysville, Ohio. They export some of the cars they make to Japan.

I stand corrected, the shelves in the “Crisis and Panic” section of most Japanese stores are indeed bare!

courtesy of "Tsunami Obama"

I loathe Obama as much as anyone here, but blaming him in any way for that tsunami is just plain wrong. Does it even have to be said that no national leader is responsible for a natural disaster? As for how the aftermath has been handled, Obama is not the president of Japan. Heck, he's barely the president of these United States.

Yes, because how many times was Bush blamed for every natural disaster, by way of blaming Global Warming?

Yeah. Kartographer has had several show up on his threads. Anything from, *what good is it to prep if some tsunami is going to wash it all away?* , to *we're all going to die anyway so why bother?*.

As if someone prepping is going to affect them any. If they don't want to, they don't have to, but last I knew it was a free country and nobody asked for their opinion.

I fail to see why someone would get so worked up about what someone else is doing for themselves.

Those and the ones who think that anything that comes is going to be God's inescapable Armageddon, despite the fact that history has shown that man and nature can handily screw things up to a point were in you would wish that God would end it all.
And though they will swear it isn't true they will turn just as nasty as the 'Katrina Sheeple' in a real emergency and will be just as likely to rob and kill for what they need.

"Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Siege of AR-558 (#7.8)" (1998)
Quark: Let me tell you something about Hew-mons, Nephew. They're a wonderful, friendly people, as long as their bellies are full and their holosuites are working. But take away their creature comforts, deprive them of food, sleep, sonic showers, put their lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time and those same friendly, intelligent, wonderful people... will become as nasty and as violent as the most bloodthirsty Klingon. You don't believe me? Look at those faces. Look in their eyes.
