Good riddance to another liberal who could see the writing on the wall for 2012.

Gee, I hope it's because he got flamed over his e-mail blaming OPEC for high oil prices. My own response was: "0's regime won't allow exploration or drilling the gulf, and you think OPEC is at fault for high gas prices? I really expected better sense out of a former businessman. Please take me off your self-serving mailing list. You are a fool."

Here's his original e-mail: "We’ve all been alarmed by the rise in gas prices, which are now surpassing $4 a gallon in many places across the country, including Wisconsin, and have nearly doubled in two years. While we know that the rise in gas prices has many causes, one important cause is the actions of the OPEC oil cartel, which limits supply in order to maintain a high price. If the nations of OPEC were private companies, such conduct would be nothing more than naked price fixing, illegal under the most fundamental principles of antitrust law. This week, I questioned Attorney General Eric Holder at a Judiciary Committee hearing about rising gas prices and my legislation, the No Oil Producing & Exporting Cartels (NOPEC) Act. My bill would give the Department of Justice tools it needs to enforce the antitrust laws against the OPEC oil cartel. NOPEC was approved with bipartisan support by the Judiciary Committee last month. Attorney General Holder indicated that he is always looking for more enforcement tools to protect American consumers and that he will consult with his colleagues in the Cabinet about the NOPEC legislation. The Administration recently established a task force to examine whether there has been inappropriate market manipulation of oil prices. Attorney General Holder assured the Judiciary Committee that he will be aggressive in examining the rise in oil prices, and to the extent that they were artificially driven the Justice Department will take action. I want you to know I will continue working to reduce the price of gasoline. "

Will not be missed. The best you can say about Sen. Kohl is that he kept a relatively low profile for a leftie.
What instantly comes to mind when I think of him is the recurring personal ad in the UWM student paper during the 1990’s: “Sen. Herb Kohl, come out of the closet!” And, no, I don’t have any idea if that imperative had any basis in fact.

People should click on the link to read the comments. Many of them are outrageously funny. Especially this one:

I really almost forgot he was still alive.

Well, looks like Feingold may have a clear field to get the Dem nod for the other seat... and we’re going to have to get a strong candidate (meaning, no Mark Neumann retread).

Herb Kohl has always looked like Mr. Burns from The Simpsons.

Have you ever seen them in the same place at the same time?

Nope.

Is this Kohl connected with the Kohl’s department stores? They have some GREAT coupons. Sometimes they issue $10 coupons with no minimum purchase which means you can get $10 items for free. My closet is chock full of FREE T-shirts that I got with those coupons. Also it is still a good deal when they issue $10 coupons with minimum $20 purchase. Just wait for a sale and that coupon will get you stuff really cheap.

Kohl was not quite the hard-left lib Feingold was, but he was still a reliable member of the lib political cabal. Undoubtedly, outside lib and leftist forces will use this opportunity to pour millions into a campaign to get another lib elected. Ron Johnson won pretty handily last November, but it’s unknown what Republican will run to fill Kohl’s seat.

But but but Mr. Tokyo Rove you've told us Obama is unbeatable. Wouldn't he supply GREAT coattails for Kohl? Oh that's right Kohl is leaving to spend more time with his family - if he hasn't said so yet he will. Liberals never just leave they stay until they die or get kicked out or KNOW they will lose. Kohl's not dying so my money is on number 3.
