The 6-year-old girl was taken by a stranger from a playground right outside her South Valley home.
The girl lives at the Vista Del Sol mobile home park near Blake and Unser SW.
Police say she was on the playground at around 4pm Monday when a man in a green van pulled up.
An alert neighbor says the man tried to coax the little girl into his van.
“The child was being resistant to his enticement and that is what caused him to get out of the car and actually push her into the van,” said Officer Robert Gibbs with the Albuquerque Police Department.
The neighbor then jumped into his own car and chased after Phil Garcia, the suspected kidnapper, while calling 911.

I disagree... We live in the same world as before. I am a 48-year-old woman and when I was in kindergarten, I was approached by a twenty something man.
I lived just around the corner from my school. On my way home, this PERV dropped his pants and thankfully some neighbor saw him, yelled at him and he left me alone.
The only difference from days back then and now is 24-hour NEWS.
We think things are worse when in reality, we are bombarded with the sickness among humanity.
I must agree with you. Much of anxiety in this country comes from the fact that we hear of every single such incident.

Just make sure it is a place where his screaming and crying willl not keep anyone awake during his long days and nights of suffering.

True story. A bud of mine from a former life managed to get himself admitted to a state mental hospital in order to do an inside story for a publication which employed him. He passed a battery of crazy tests to fool all the shrinks and get admitted. Second day in, he was outed by one of the inmates who could tell he was acting.
Good idea. We can use the power of government to criminalize parental discretion, destroy the child's family and hand her over to foster care. That's your idea of how to protect children?

I suspect you are right, but I’d sure like to see some statistics, if accurate ones are available.
We also have twice the population we did 50 years ago, so there would be twice the number of such incidents even if the rate at which they occurred had not changed.
Many of us ran around outside all the time while quite young, often in packs of 6 or 10, but I notice this is almost never seen today.
I’m very happy this neighbor was vigilant and brave enough to follow this scumbag.
I know I’m not a hard enough invidual to carry out all of the tortures proposed by some of the other posters. A bullet in the head is justice enough.
Nobody could carry out that kind of torture, no matter how justly deserved it may be, and come out the same person they went in.
When I was 3 I’d walk up the street to see my friend, also 3. Child abductions were unheard of.

Found some statistics.
Chance of a child in USA being kidnapped and killed is about 1 in 350,000.
Have not been able to find anything about how this risk has changed over time.
Given the many other much greater risks for a child, such as drowning and car crashes, obsessing over this one is not particularly logical.
I think I am on your side in a fight manno. Particularly against perverts. Actually, you might have to stand in line... I get a little pushy about things like that. However, I have one thing to add, I think we need to re-institute Public Humilliation. Clap him naked in stocks with a sign, “I kidnapped a 6 year old girl” and let the public have it’s say.
