NC governor recommends suspending democracy to focus on jobs
The Daily Caller ^ | 9/27/2011 | Matthew Boyle

Posted on 09/27/2011 2:01:44 PM PDT by Bed_Zeppelin

As a way to solve the national debt crisis, North Carolina Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue recommends suspending Congressional elections for the next couple of years.

“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,” Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, North Carolina, according to the Raleigh News and Observer. “I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.”

Perdue said she thinks that temporarily halting elections would allow members of Congress to focus on the economy. “You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things,” Perdue said.

North Carolina Republicans immediately scoffed at Perdue’s proposal, pointing out to her that elections hold politicians accountable for their actions. “Now is a time when politicians need to be held accountable more than ever,” North Carolina GOP spokesman Rob Lockwood said in an email to The Daily Caller. “To suspend an election would be removing the surest mechanism that citizens have to hold politicians accountable: The right to vote.”

I live in NC and the only reason she is in office is by riding Obama's coattails. Stupid Dem voters all voted straight Dem ticket.Trust me, she is not loved in this state, her poll numbers have been dismal almost from day 1.

The good news is that we have a Republican majority in the state house and senate for the first time in over 100 years d/t the election correction of 2010. They are terrified of the beating they will take in 2012, it will be EPIC!

After careful consideration of Gov. Beverly Perdue’s proposal, I have formulated my thoughtful response:

You swine. You vulgar little maggot. You worthless bag of filth. ...

P.S.: You are hypocritical, greedy, violent, malevolent, vengeful, cowardly, deadly, mendacious, meretricious, loathsome, despicable, belligerent, opportunistic, barratrous, contemptible, criminal, fascistic, bigoted, racist, sexist, avaricious, tasteless, idiotic, brain-damaged, imbecilic, insane, arrogant, deceitful, demented, lame, self-righteous, byzantine, conspiratorial, satanic, fraudulent, libelous, bilious, splenetic, spastic, ignorant, clueless, EDLINoid, illegitimate, harmful, destructive, dumb, evasive, double-talking, devious, revisionist, narrow, manipulative, paternalistic, fundamentalist, dogmatic, idolatrous, unethical, cultic, diseased, suppressive, controlling, restrictive, malignant, deceptive, dim, crazy, weird, dyspeptic, stifling, uncaring, plantigrade, grim, unsympathetic, jargon-spouting, censorious, secretive, aggressive, mind-numbing, arassive, poisonous, flagrant, self-destructive, abusive, socially-retarded, puerile, and Generally Not Good.

Oh c'mon. Tell us what you really think about Gov. Beverly Perdue (Demonrat, NC).

A "joke" is one thing her comment was not ! She might have gotten away with it as a "brainstorming of ideas", but her spokesperson obviously didn't think so when he tried to cover for her. And Perdue wouldn't say she hoped others supported her "joke", so it seems pretty clear she was serious.

I'm not sure why I'm trying to give her the benefit of doubt.....she's a Dem. who sees an apacolypse descending in Nov. '12.

When the Research Triangle Park (RTP) opened for business in the late70s, early80s, IBM located here transporting lots of Yankees from NJ, NY, etc. Of course, they brought their politics with them, and, ta da, here we are. (Note that in Nov 10 elections, we took over NC House and NC Senate—first time in 100 yrs.) Her days are numbered.

Sure thing, except there is that little matter of the Constitution. She’ll need to get an Amendment passed first.

Yeah, Democrats are always calling for a “temporary” suspension of democracy as a means to “fix” the destruction wrought by their economy-killing policies.

Great idea! Gee, why didn’t the rest of us think of that? What economic insight. Wow, maybe we could be more like England or better yet become another Russia, or maybe even be like the USSR! Sounds great. Serfdom isn’t too far away. Looks like BHO has us well down that road already. Not far to go now.

“Come on…Gov. Perdue was obviously using hyperbole floating the idea to highlight what we can all agree is a serious problem:Washington politicians who focus on their own election instead of what’s best for the people they serve,” just start a dictatorship," Mackey said in an email to TheDC.

Was she “joking”? Doubt it. Can you make a case for 4-years terms for the US House? Sure. But they aren’t and elections can’t be suspended. We had them during the Civil War!

I think we should have EARLY ELECTIONS in NC. Get rid of this hag a year early!!!

Agreed! And charges to impeach must be filed now before that happens. I don’t care how they try to spin this. This was no joke on her part.

Today, Peter Orszag, Obama’s former Budget Director, said pretty much the same thing:

“Why we need less democracy”
“In other words, radical as it sounds, we need to counter the gridlock of our political institutions by making them a bit less democratic.”

Bev Perdue is a lame duck and she knows it. The “Obama primary challenger” feint is designed to keep her approval numbers from falling to zero and to keep her in the game.

BTW, she had her Chapel Hill house on the market for about $2.1 million and it recently was pulled off of the market. Who knows, she may be planning to move back to Chapel Hill in 15 months...

From the text I read this was no joke, except in the sense that it was a laughably stupid idea in the mouth of someone who never should have come within a country mile of an elective office, much less that of a state Governor. A government that so fears its constituents that it will not allow them to hold an election is a government that needs to be fired, or to be fired at, their choice.
