Free Republic Sacrilege: Why Perry is the Conservative and Cain is Not
Self | 10/10/2011 | Beancounter13

Issue

Perry

Cain

2nd Amendment

Has a firearm, a CCL, and he uses them.

Has a long history of 2nd Amendment support:

2nd Amendment

Thinks gun control should be left to the state and local governments placing him at odds with Heller and McDonald.

Cain's CNN

Abortion

Perry signed into law a regulation would have required women seeking an abortion to view a sonogram and listen to the fetus's heartbeat while a doctor rattled off a detailed description of the fetus's anatomical development — and then forcibly ponder their decision for an additional 24 hours before an abortion could be performed.

Abortion

Pro-life from conception, pro-life from conception, pro-life from conception.

Cain's CNN

Gay Marriage (note the so-called 'flip-flop' actually serves to showcase Perry's support of the 10th Amendment)

Rick Perry has signed a pledge to back a federal constitutional amendment against gay marriage – a reversal from a month ago when the Texas governor said he so supported individual states' rights that he was fine with New York's approval of same-sex marriage.

Gay Marriage

Supports traditional marriage, support traditional marriage

Cain's CNN

Global Warming / Cap & Trade

Long history of fighting the EPA as Texas Governor:

[The EPA] relied heavily upon findings by climate-change scientists that have been subsequently discredited by the scientists' own e-mails ....

Global Warming

I don't believe global war-- global warming is real. Do we have climate change? Yes. Is it a crisis, no. And this is why I strongly oppose the-- the cap in trade

Cain on Global Warming

Red Flags

Use of a liberal term (“heartless”) while discussing an issue (in-state tuition for residents of non-citizens).

Use of a liberal term (“insensitive”) in referring to a racial accusation before the facts were revealed.

When he gets called out, he can’t back up his claims.

Which claim did I not back up?

Care to say? Hmmmm?

I have documented that Perry supports amnesty.

Amnesty is allowing people who have broken the law to not have to pay the penalty called for by the law.

Legalizing the legals = Amnesty.

Honestly, I was more impressed with Cain two weeks ago. Now that I have seen more of him it's the same things over and over.

That is just how it goes for those of us watching the race closely. The candidates get asked the same few things over and over and they attempt to give the same answers in an increasingly adept way. By the time the voting starts they will have their lines well learned and many people will be seeing those lines delivered for the first time and make their choices then. The folks who have to worry are the die-hard Perry supporters since he has not yet demonstrated the ability to improve his poorly-articulated answers.

DITTO: We should not split our vote with these two or Romney wins.

DITTO: We should all vote for Cain, lest Romney wins. I'm down with that.

"Earlier today, at the Values Voters Summit in Florida, Perry vehemently declared that he will not support any type of amnesty policy for "those who have broken our laws to get here"

This is Slick Rick at his finest!

He always takes the position that "amnesty" when he is talking means "voting rights."

So in his mind, if we legalize the illegals, but don't give them voting rights, it's not amnesty!

But people who don't talk like double-talking professional politicians know that amnesty means taking someone who has broken the law and deciding not to enforce the penalty required by law.

I was referring to the interview ...his response was confusing.

I like Cain and I've been watching him closely. I have seen him flub some questions but I do think he's improving and he seems not to flub the same question over and over.

Perry has been in less that 10 weeks, and people will not move past the 'heartless' comment.

It is way worse than that. Perry should have known that he would be asked about social security, Gardasil, and in-state tuition for illegals in the first debate and yet he flubbed all three answers. Then he flubbed all three answers again in the second debate. Then he did it again in the third debate. It is hard to overstate how incompetent this is.

Well, we’ve certainly proved our willingness to elect a wordsmith with no experience in governance before, I’ll hand you that.

Why do you pretend that Cain does not have decades of non-governmental experience?

I think I would go nuts if I ran for office! I can’t think of anything worse than saying the same things over and over for months on end!

Use of a liberal term (“insensitive”) in referring to a racial accusation before the facts were revealed......

Insensitive is not liberal, if he called it racist that would be liberal. He answered the question put to him, if he didn't people would be saying he's avoiding the question...I liked his answer, Cain acting grown up and politically incorrect...not afraid to answer after having the race card thrown at him by some idiot reporter. Meant to embarrass him, wonder what the other candidates would say to that question, but of course they will not be asked it, they are white....and it might embarrass them to answer. That is having the race card played against Cain because of his race...

A lot of true statements are offensive to the hearer...but none the less true.

I’ll be generous to Rick, and promise to vote for him over Romney, and over Obama; but not because I trust any farther than I can spit against a hurricane.

I am all for the second amendment and also against having to go through hoops to get a permit. Reasonable regulations are up to the states, for instance a law that say children shall not be given or have the right to purchase a gun....that by your standard would be an infringement on 2nd amendment. There can be reasonable and rational laws in reguard to gun purchase’s...

So you’re acknowledging that Cain is a liberal, are you?

Not if you know how to read he is not saying that...Just a small comprehension problem with your remark.

Perry's stance on illegal immigration issues make him unacceptable. Illegal immigration must be stopped or it will destroy the United States making other issues irrelevant. If a politician isn't on the right side of certain issues that will either save or destroy this nation they shouldn't be supported.Illegal Immigration is one of those issues and it's also one of the most ignored by politicians. Herman Cain has spoken out much stronger on the issue than Perry who has pandered to illegals and shown he doesn't believe it's a problem. He's disrespected many of his previous supporters on the issue which is why he lost a huge amount of support basically overnight.

I find it strange that you don't mention illegal immigration in this dumb chart considering it's one of the most important issues we're facing as a nation. You say you haven't found much substance with Cain, but we all can find substance in the horrendous illegal immigration policy of Perry. We will all need our guns for protection more than ever as we see the U.S. turn into the violent third world country that is Mexico.

Perry is a career politician who has been all over the place on political issues in his long career, and to me that's what most supporters of the TEA party were wanting to rid the government of in place of true Conservatives who haven't been all over the political spectrum suspiciously when that particular political view helps your career.

Herman Cain is far more Conservative than Rick Perry, and is obviously the candidate which fits the profile of what the TEA party has said it wanted in politicians. I'll take the real Conservatives over the guys who's politics have changed according to what will benefit their career.

I'm surprised Perry was stupid enough to make the mistake of insulting a large group of his former supporters who almost immediately left him and moved on to the more Conservative Cain. He should just drop out now because he isn't getting those HEARTLESS Conservative supporters back no matter what.

Oh, please. The topics and quotes you chose are overwhelmingly biased toward Perry. Cain has been adamantly against anthropogenic global warming many, many times, including several in-depth articles and you choose THAT quote, plus you leave out Gardasil, TTC, Dream Act, speaking to La Raza, and bashing the U.S. in a speech on foreign soil.

Rick Perry's stance on issues regarding illegal immigration are horrible and directly related to national defense which means he's weak on that issue. The country will collapse because of inaction and disregard for illegal immigration before it will from a terrorist group or foreign military. Iran and al-qaeda don't have the power to destroy our nation and haven't even done a fraction of the damage that illegal immigration has done, including the murder of American citizens, yet our leaders pander and seem to have capitulated to the Mexican government.

NO ONE WHO DOESN'T SEE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION AS A HUGE DANGER TO OUR COUNTRY THAT MUST BE STOPPED IS NOT STRONG ON NATIONAL DEFENSE NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE OR WHAT ELSE THEY HAVE DONE.

I still don’t understand how voting for Perry is better than Romney. I’m not a fan of either and have no intentions of voting for EITHER, but.... how is Perry any better if he’s gonna look the other way and/or WELCOME illegals here... all that will do is expand the Democrat voting base by MILLIONS of voters.... how is THAT worse than Romney? If we vote Romney & he wins, we get a liberal for at least 4 more years....if we vote Perry and he wins, we get a fake conservative for 4 years and then liberals for the next 100 years.

And....voter I.D. laws (which we have in TX now) aren’t worth anything because a trip to the local flea market here in Houston will score you 27 different ways to get a fake driver’s license, that looks more real than my REAL one...

Like I said, I’m not a fan of Romney and refuse to vote for him, but I’m having a hard time swalllowing the “Perry is not as bad as Romney” pill. Perry is VERY deceitful, arrogant and undermining in his governing tactics.... TX has gotten so bad w/illegals, we’re moving out of state in a few months... and once I get away from the mess Perry helped to create in TX, I darn sure don’t him running any other place I live....

Perry is as bad as Romney IMO...or worse because at least Romney DOES flip flop and change his mind. Perry digs in heels on his liberal policies.
