SACRAMENTO – The nearly five-hour drive from the Sacramento area to Yreka, in Siskiyou County by the Oregon border, was a reminder not just of the immense size and beauty of California, but of the vast regional and cultural differences one finds within our 37-million-population state.
Sacramento is Government Central, a land of overly pensioned bureaucrats and restaurant discounts for state workers. But way up in the North State, one finds a small but hard-edged rural populace that views state and federal officials as the main obstacles to their quality of life.

A Nat Geo show on game wardens had some of these freedom lovers showcased, basically psychopathic game poachers and drug addled losers. Not saying that everyone who mouths the word “freedom” is a load on society, but when the word “freedom” is used the question, “From what” must always be asked.
So, are they just doin’ the subsistence poaching on Lord 0bama’s land that the rest of America doesn’t want to do?

I kind of see the next civil war not as north/south but rural/city....literally the entire 50 contiguous states. Same basic philosophies at odds just with the “small central government” folks coming out on top and most cities over 100,000 people quite literally aflame.
The state I live in for instance. The Olympia-Tacoma-Seattle corridor is very, VERY liberal to almost communist in it’s political leanings. Most of the rest of the state is center-right. I think that is the case in most states with large rural areas that are dominated by 1 to 4 cities of size.
But, if you cut those cities off. Nothing in, nothing out.....well, it’s a strategy anyways.
Well as one who lives and works in a rural area I would like the freedom to continue to earn a living and to feed America. I would like freedom from over regulation by labor boards, air quality boards, water quality boards, coastal boards, and more which are all made up of unelected unaccountable bureaucrats. In the end I would like to pass on what Ive worked for and earned on to my children without the feds confiscating most of it. We country folks aren’t all that complicated.
No they were psychopaths who just liked to kill and kill and kill some more, and do some good drugs. I’m a hunter so don’t try and place me as a lib. The game wardens were doing their job and rather professionaly I might add. So tell me about your game taking habits, and tell me about your “rights” and “freedoms.”
What exactly do you do? A neighbor of ours became a freedom lover the minute he was stopped from becoming a waste dump for a small factory, he loved freedom and hated government the moment his neighbors became worried that the drums of solvent could actually leak their chemicals into the water table next to our wells. But he is a farmer who also loves his gooberment check, but he wants freedom and his rights respected, I understand.
So, did Nat Geo take into custody? Claim that they were typical and represent the majority? Maybe the folks up there need some genetic cleansing?
We row crop vegetable growers here in California receive no government crop subsidies. We were pretty much ignored in the last Farm Bill and like it that way.

Nor. Cal is a beautiful area. The wardens did admit that the cultural belief of many in the area is to live without restraint in regards to the game laws. I understand that mentality I have certainly grew up around it, but I can also come to understand that such mentality is for children and or retards like these internet braggards who kill and kill and kill just so they post on the net their pictures of them chopping pig’s heads off with swords.
I live in a rural area. I own a farm. I want to run a dairy here. Do you have any idea how much red tape I have to navigate just to sell the milk from two cows to my friends and neighbors?
It’s ridiculous but statists continually vote for people that place these burdens upon us.
