Well, That Was Interesting (Block on Fox)
National Review Online ^ | November 3, 2011 | Rick Lowry

Posted on 11/03/2011 3:07:17 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Over the last 12 hours, the Cain controversy took a lurch toward complete farce with the Cain campaign accusing, with no evidence, the Perry campaign and specifically Curt Anderson, with leaking the story. As a theory, this at least make sense: Perry needs Cain to deflate, and one interpretation of Perry’s strange New Hampshire speech is that it was an over-the-top attempt to demonstrate the liveliness and personality that has helped Cain steal most of Perry’s support. But the Cain campaign seems only to be making a wild guess about Anderson. Incredibly enough, Cain himself made the accusation and then Mark Block went on “Special Report” to reinforce the charge with a–let’s just say–memorable performance.

Among other problems with this tack, it’s extraordinarily foolish for the Cain campaign to make this about anything other than an unfair attack on it by the media. Now, it’s a little less a story about a biased media and a little more a story about intra-conservative backbiting. Cain has been the sympathetic victim so far, but now he’s the one who’s lodged an unfair charge. While there aren’t great reservoirs of support out there for Rick Perry at the moment, Republicans have shown they don’t react well to evidence-free, outlandish attacks by one candidate on another (see how Bachmann hurt herself by going too far on the vaccine issue). The Cain campaign would be well-served to get their candidate out...

Thank you for running that down, CW. I don't tweet either. I couldn't figure out what they (Cain supporters) were talking about. All I could find was a screenshot of the smoking gun tweet by Shawnna L.M. Bolick, without any context.

org.whodat you are like a stalker. No not like you are a stalker of CW it seems you are obsessed with hanging out in Perry threads to bash, lie and stalk. LOL

Maybe you can get a job working for the man that stalked Sarah Paliln and got that house next to hers.

If you are not for Perry fine, but to stalk like this IS an obsession....that is sick.If you could step back and see what you look like doing this.LMAO

We all know that old trick....keep repeating the lie until people believe it’s true.

The Tiny Hyenas of Groupthink Island have been doing that all along....on a variety of issues.

They even quote use sources like The New York Times, CNN and Rolling Stone in attempts to validate their garbage.

As Albert Einstein said... “All things are relative... some more so than others”. Some peoples flaws are more relative than others. I do not look for perfection... but I do look for signs of a progressive lying about being a staunch Conservative... I am funny like that... I do not like to be lied to or called names... all because I believe in the Constitution... our sovereignty and the entire Conservative ideology.

RUSH IS COVERING IT NOW... HE ASKS YOU HOW YOU WANTED CAIN TO HANDLE THIS? Rush said let us look at how someone has successfully handled a sexual harassment rumor... bill clinton... he lied and he lied under oath and he lied to America and his wife and he deceived until he was found guilty of lying under oath. He was not only supported by the left and the media... many republicans were won over on it being a matter of personal privacy. Rush says if you wanted it handled differently... then you want a liar to lie to us again... just like clinton did... and if you want a liar... obama is the biggest liar to ever sit in the Whitehouse... just vote for obama. Now neither Rush or I KNOW if these allegations are true... but even if this is a lie... there is Nothing that Cain can do to make it go away. Rush says that this will never go away... Cain will be tagged with this even if he is proved innocent... it will lead every story about him forever... while edwards and clinton's sexual predatory escapades are never talked about by the msm and Rush’s transcripts will prove every word that I say here because RUSH SAID IT JUST NOW!

That’s just it. He hasn’t been calm or cool. He’s been changing his story, blaming everyone under the sun except himself for at least not being prepared to answer the issue and snapping at the press. He was given 10 days from Politico, and if he’s blaming his former staffer, he had about 7 years to get his story down. He’s failed.

You think the zer0 administration would have left this issue alone with their BILLION dollar war chest? Get real. 0bama had sealed custody papers opened just to knock a candidate out of the race for a Senate run. This is part of the vetting process.

The scandal isn’t the issue, the way he’s handled it is. He’s showing how he reacts under pressure and it’s not reassuring at all.

You know, I’ve noticed something strange.

You (and others) are often attacked as people who are “working” for Perry. Or articles that are Perry-positive are denigrated because they’re from some “Pro-Perry” site or person.

Conversely, when a Perry-positive article or blog is quoted from a historically liberal/progressive source, a common response is something along the lines of “Aha! It figures a Liberal organization would support liberal Perry!”

1. Doesn’t it make sense that Perry supporters would post pro-Perry pieces?
2. If posting pro-Perry pieces makes you a Perry “worker”, doesn’t that hold true that folks who post pro-Cain, pro-Newt, pro-Whoever pieces are “workers” for those campaigns??
3. And the corollary must be, if one posts NEGATIVE articles, wouldn’t that make one a “worker” for the opposition?
4. So finally, it seems to me, it’s a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” scenario to post anything positive or negative about a candidate if the very fact you posted it makes you a “worker” and thus the content of the post is null.

Where’s the room for civil discourse and vetting of the candidates if everything that’s posted is declared null and void simply because the poster might have a particular position?

How about evaluating the posting and its content on its own merits?

Anyhoo...hanks for what you do, CW. Keep it up.

It won’t be long before the outliers, no matter how they appear to those who are deluded, fade away and we actually get into the meat of this campaign.

From where I sit, it looks like there’s lots more fun coming down the pike.

Cain is an ordained minister for heaven’s sake. He out of all the candidates should be the most respectful towards women and he should not even have these issues since he’s married. He brings dishonor to the God he’s supposed to be serving, his poor wife who is being humiliated by this and he brings dishonor on himself when he can’t be man enough to accept responsibility for his own bad behavior. Sexual harassment isn’t the same thing as consensual sex.

And you condemn him on what evidence? How about 600 years of ‘innocent until proved guilty’?

I guess if you are a conservative that, and the Constitution are just inconvenient bumps in the road.

What do you think Cain could do that would stop the media attack?

And what, specifically, is Cain accused of?

I’ve been listening to Rush and he has totally gone overboard defending Cain.

I just sent him an e-mail explaining to him why I distrust Cain.

In fact, I’ll post it here, if nobody minds or even if they do.

The subject line was: Cain CAN lie

Dear Rush,

I’m a Perry supporter but I was furious when the charges against Cain came out. The charges themselves seemed puny… I mean, what man in business hasn’t offended somebody…men and women.

It was a painful reminder of what happened to the great Clarence Thomas… still a blot on our history.

I think almost everybody was on board with Cain when this first came out. However, it should have been over in 24 hours.

The person who’s most to blame for keeping it alive is Cain, in my opinion. You can blame that on political naiveté or the fact that he’s never been a major candidate and therefore never had to deal with attacks, but he’s handled it so badly.

Sometimes he refuses to talk about it and sometimes he talks too much.

The final blow, to me, was when he, through his odd campaign manager, accused Perry of being the source of the leak.

Cain has had a strange hatred of Perry for a long time, first demonstrated on Meet the Press when he took the bait on The Rock story and came very close to accusing Perry of racism based on the rock. Talk about bogus hit pieces.

Then he made the unnecessarily and weird announcement that he was open to be veep for any candidate except Perry. Since there was no other viable candidate, that sounded like a shout out to Romney.

Then he accuses Perry unjustly of leaking this story.

He’s crowed a bit about the increase in donations since the story broke.

Sorry, you think you have no influence (ha,ha) but I attribute that increase directly to you and your very great (and mostly valuable) influence on the public.

Your fan and admirer for many years,

I just want to take a minute to thank you for your Perry posts.

I’ve posted a few Perry articles myself and it is a lot of trouble to do, so I appreciate what you are doing.

Remember, if your attackers are morons, you must be doing something right.

Where there’s smoke there’s fire. If it was only one incident then it’s easy to give the benefit of the doubt but more than that and the latest being not too long ago shows a probable pattern of behavior.

You all sure didn’t Clinton a break on the same stuff.

In case you are wondering, PJM has a little more information.

That is a well structured email and it was nice of you to share your thoughts with Rush... but he had a woman caller that said much the same things to him that your email covers... and Rush said, “You are not listening with a discerning ear”.

should be :

You all sure didn’t give Clinton a break on the same stuff and let me add rightfully so. Remember it was Clinton’s distractions like this that kept him from being focused on our greatest threat at the time, OBL. These kinds of distractions can be deadly. Ask the 9/11 victims about that.

The character of the man in the WH matters.
