There's Something Very Weird About The Herman Cain Sexual Harassment Scandal
Business Insider ^ | 11/04/2011 | Grace Wyler

Posted on 11/04/2011 6:45:59 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

The Republican race has officially been hijacked by the Herman Cain sexual harassment controversy, and the furor shows no signs of dying down. Everyone in Washington is now trying to decide whether Cain is more like Clarence Thomas or Bill Clinton. Or maybe even Anthony Weiner.

But the media firestorm has overlooked one key fact: We still don't know what Cain actually did.

New details emerged Thursday night about the two unnamed women who Politico originally reported had accused Cain of making "sexually suggestive" remarks and "improper" gestures toward them while they were employees at the National Restaurant Association sometime in the 1990s. The new reports provide some clarity to the scandal, mostly by providing information that differentiates the two original accusers:

According to both stories, one of the women was paid a $35,000 termination settlement after Cain made "unwanted sexual advances" at an NRA event in a hotel, apparently after a night of heavy drinking. The NYT reports that Cain asked the woman to come up to his hotel room, and made repeated advances even after she declined.

Politico reports that the second woman reached a $45,000 termination agreement with the NRA to settle harassment claims against Cain. She is the same woman Cain was referring to when he recalled that employee had "falsely" accused him of sexual harassment after he "made a gesture saying" she was the same height as his wife. She is also the same woman who has requested to release an anonymous statement through the NRA that would "counter" Cain's statements, while leaving out the details of the incident.

But in the end, the new revelations raise more questions than they answer. In fact, the Cain harassment story has actually gotten more vague and confusing as new details and allegations emerge.

Cain will never get my vote unless he could prove he is innocent. He looks like a bad character. We have one of those now. We don’t need another.

If you're referring to Perry as the 'other', I agree. After all, one of his polling organizations is now connected with this. Oh, and the guy has connections with Rove. Hmmmmmm. Interesting, very interesting...

Deace told the Register last month that he believes Cain was talking about adding honey and lemon, but that it was an awkward moment.

THAT constitutes an "awkward moment?" How about the times Obama referred to young female reporters on the 2008 campaign trail as "sweetie?" Or did the reporters simply not feel threatened around an effeminate metro nancyboy like Obama...

This all may end up being a long-needed dialog about the insanity of hyper-political correctness.

I agree, and let's not forget to mention timing and motivation of these accusers.

Logic here would dictate that if Cain was not telling the truth and the truth came out, he would quit this race.

But he hasn’t, which has meaning.

RE: The guy at the radio station a staunch conservative said he acted wrong with the women there.

And why do you believe the guy at the radio when another guy who was at the party says he never saw anything inappropriate?

Why are you so prone to believe the worst of Cain because soemone said so, instead of adopting the American principle “INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY”?

How would you like it if I called you a LIBERAL TROLL MASKING AS A CONSERVATIVE and people believed it? Would it be fair to you?

All on the basis of BECAUSE SOMEONE SAID SO.

Obama will have to release his medical/college/passport records if the MSM push Cain too..

Oh wait...They will pass Obama through even if he were impeached and ate a gerbil on LIVE TV and said he is a radical that hates whitey and Farrakhan is his real daddy..

Well, just my theory. I kind of like it!

That's an interesting perspective. If the NRA does eventually release the info of the alleged "insult" and the results of the investigation - and Cain comes out squeaky clean - it's like a rope a dope maneuver.
The cigarette commercial caused outrage (Personally I like the "liberty" aspect of it. He reminded us this was once a free country.)and Cain ended up benefiting from it. His name was in the news for days.
Great way to run an inexpensive campaign - play the media.

I hope your perspective pans out. It would be nothing short of ....really cool!

And do you care to explain how Cain is to set about proving a negative?

I'm sorry but the fact you Romneybot campaign staffers are racing around here pimping this smear makes it clear this is nothing but a sleazy bought and paid for political trick designed to hijack the GOP Nomination to your pet RINO.

Still want to keep pimping your "guilty until proven innocent" stupidity now?

He also pulled in an upsurge in donation$ because of it as well.

“No Rovebot.”

You had better do a little investigation of my posts where I absolutely disembowel rove... I hate the bastard and I hate all of these progressive drones. I would no pi$$ on romney if he were on fire. You are just a little to quick on the draw Johnnie... and I did not deserve the trash mouth you slapped me with... savvy?

“Cain has to do NOTHING of the sort.”

Ok then... let the scandal proceed until his numbers are in the toilet... no one... no one... no one can survive on the no defense tactic... it absolutely destroyed the Bush presidency... and rove was the architect that forced the non defense agenda upon us... the new tone bullsh!t! Cain can tie up the nomination and lay the blame on the guilty parties if he is innocent... and it is up to him... meanwhile obama is skating on ALL of his scandals and Fast and Furious is being buried 6 feet under.

I have been vocal about my support for Cain... I am just offering an opinion on this situation and by accusing me of being what I fight against every day on FR... and my 42,000 posts prove that to the power of 10... you owe me an apology. Friendly fire has no place on FR... and you just shot me in the back my friend.

“Cain was accused. He refuted the accusation. It is NOT his job to continue proving the lies to be lies over and over and over.”

It is his job to win the nomination and the sooner this scandal dies the better. If he is innocent... and I believe that he is and that perry... romney and the left are all allied against him... that they are behind this scandal... but Cain is the only one that can slay this dragon and get on with the business of saving this Republic. If he chooses not to... regardless of his innocence... he will lose the nomination... he needs the indies and he will lose them. One thing most Americans are sick of is secrecy and cover-ups of misdeeds. Cain can end this entire story by demanding that all of the truth be brought to light.

“It is past time for Rove and the rest of you Romneybots to stop pimping the Cain smear and demand the accusers provide even 1 single shred of evidence.”

There you go again... besmirching my reputation because I hold a differing opinion of what Cain should do... what I would do if I were in his shoes. The most important thing to me after JESUS is my reputation... and it is unblemished. You should really engage logic before you attack someone that has everything in common with you and is one of the most Conservative members on this site. FReepmail Jim about me... if you have any doubts.

“So smear-bot, where is the single shred of evidence to back up you sleazy accusations?”

Accusations? What accusations... I posted that I believe Cain is innocent but neither you or I KNOW the truth yet... and the truth will come to light... one way or the other. Cain has the power to get the proof of the truth out there... unless he is guilty... and I do not believe that so where in the hell is my wording that accuses Cain of anything? “

“Rumor, hearsay and accusation are NOT evidence.”

No shit Sherlock... and that is why Cain needs to provide the evidence of the investigations so that real tangible proof of his innocence will squash this scandal and then he can crush his enemies with the guilt of their lies.

I’m glad he is weathering this storm. I truly am. I’m glad his contributions and poll numbers are up. Really, I am.

But to say, “this could happen to any conservative” is not quite right.

He KNEW about the settlements, did he not?

Are you saying he DIDN’T know about them?

Are you saying they don’t actually exist at all? Are you saying the media is making up them up out of whole cloth, that there were never any allegations and never any settlements?

If you’re not saying that, then I think you should agree with me, that Cain could have been, and should have been better prepared.

Unless you agree with the theory in #97, which is a remote and interesting possibility.

make it appear real with some half-truth embedded in the story.

LOL, apparently some people don't even need the half truth part, just the fact there is an accusation is enough for them to trash someone.

Worse part is it is even happening here on these threads...now that is sad!

If somehow Cain can be cleared I would consider voting for him. But right now it looks bad imo.

I never thought that I would see the day where my fellow FREEPERS would condemn a man not only just on unsubstantiated hearsay, but on unsubstantiated hearsay that was initiated in a lame story by the DBM. Amazing. It does NOT look bad because THERE ARE ZERO DETAILS!!

I accuse you of being a paid Romney campaign staffer pimping a paid for Romney smear against Cain

Prove me wrong

Ah but that right YOU demand a presumption of innocence. Odd how you are arrogantly refusing to grant Cain that same basic right.

So quit assuming the slanders true and provide even a single shred of evidence to back up the anonymous sourced accusations.

Well, thanks for putting a name to these absurd anonymous accusations.

Oh, wait, you didn’t. Meanwhile, non-anonymous associates say this whole thing is absurd.
