Sunday night, Penn State announced athletic director Tim Curley and vice president Gary Schultz have stepped down amid allegations of an explosive child-sex abuse scandal and cover-up.
And while the pair will not survive the scandal, it is believed Penn State football icon Joe Paterno probably adhered to the letter of the law when he told the school's athletic director-but not the police-that former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky allegedly sexually abused a boy in the Nittany Lions locker room in 2002......

The fact that there are actually people willing to act as apologists for this monstrosity nauseates me.
I read the statement.
I don’t believe it.
And I don’t like to say that - I have for reasons for wanting to be wrong about this, but I simply don’t believe the Paterno line of defense.
It sends my BS meter right off the scales.
You present a lot of questions and look for answers.
If we have eight boys that the authorities know about, its quite possible Sandusky did this with other boys.
Doing it in the locker rooms at Penn State is no different than what men often do in public restrooms and parks with other men.
Sex acts in places with the chance of getting caught.
In my county a few years ago, the park rangers and police did a sting operation and charged 80 men with using the county parks their restrooms etc. for sex with other men.
The investigation began because members of the public sometimes with children would stumble onto the men performing the acts.
Jerry Sandusky is not alone in what he’s done.
He just happens to have a high profile.

I saw on TV a local newscaster reporting live from the area and this morning listened to a couple of radio jocks live from the area. There is a LOT of local anger.
In a real world the GA would have dialed 911. In the PSU world he felt he had to seek advice from his father.
In the real world JP would have told the GA to call the police. In the PSU world he told the GA that he would take care of it.
In the real world the AD would have informed the police. In the PSU world he told JP he would take care of it.
In the real world the VP would have reported it to the at least the university police whom he had financial authority for.
In the real world President Spanier would have ensured a police investigation. In the PSU world he told Shultz to 'take care of it'.
Sandusky was an ICON at PSU and probably common knowledge that he liked little boys. The grad assistant probably saw his career going down the toilet and elected to talk to his father for advice on how to handle this political hot potato.
Should have banned him over 20 years ago. OTOH, this investigation has been know to PSU officials for several years. Why just now ban Sandusky from campus?
I read a summary of the grand jury report and the initial story about the grand jury published some months back by the Harrisburg Patriot-News.
Back in 1998 the university did an investigation into the first report of sexual abuse by Sandusky and the Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar declined to press charges.
Gricar may be part of the coverup, he may have been suckered by the university in their coverup, but whatever light he can shed on Sandusky will not be available to us.
As you know, Gricar disappeared from the face of the earth since them.
You’re probably right...it fits, makes sense..but I can’t believe that young man could be so scared, wimped,upset..whatever, as to be incapable of taking action to protect the child. I think that TA will have a hard time for the rest of his life looking at himself in the mirror..knowing that when it came time to step up, and do the right thing, he failed abysmally..
Consider that the County Attorney General and police staked out the home in 1998 of a victim and had tapes of Sandusky admitting to the mom that he had showered naked with her son and the AG Gricar decided not to prosecute. The investigating officer was puzzled as to why not. Have to believe that this was common knowledge and the GA knew that Sandusky was a protected Icon all the way up to President Spanier and AG Gricar.
And so many more that will coverup for the predators ...
Perhaps we know see the true character?

I read a column somewheres..the author made a great point..would the TA have acted any different had Sandusky been anally raping one of JoePa's grandsons.?
Are we to believe that JP didn't know anything about the 1998 investigation where they had on tape Sandusky admitting to the mom that he molested her son but the AG decided NOT to prosecute?
That's why I have to believe that it was common knowledge in the locker room.

Would JP have acted differently?
BIG live presser on ESPN now...
Can you show me Paterno knew about the 1998 investigation? I doubt it. You are spouting innuendo and a whisper campaign similar to what they tried to do to Cain.
Try this one: Paterno follows up after the fact with Curley and Shultz and they tell him the story was false and made up.
