Military sources add that Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has told Obama more than once this year, "If Iran gets nuclear arms, Turkey will get nuclear arms."
Not if the Saudis are staving off a “spring” of their own by posing as ultra-Muslims. They can’t be counted on. If we can’t go through the Suez or over Jordan or Saudi Arabia, we’ll have to do a Vasco de Gama. Got petrol for the trip around the horn? Carriers eliminate that problem, but we don’t have any.
This won’t be just one sortie like the Osirik raid. This will be a campaign, and unless we have a continuous green light from the Saudis or someone else, we can’t do an aerial campaign in the Persian Gulf. And at some point, the Saudis or whoever will be under extreme pressure to cut us off. They, of course, will bravely resist that pressure like the staunch, faithful stand-up guys they are./sarc
The other alternative is a land campaign. Good luck with that.
