MANAMA, Bahrain (AP) — Marine Gen. James F. Amos, the face of opposition in the military to lifting the ban on gays serving openly, now acknowledges his concern has proven unfounded that repeal would undermine the war effort. In fact, he says, Marines have embraced the change.

In an Associated Press interview, Amos called the repeal in September "a non-event."

There’s probably a reason why he’s schmoozing in DC and giving quotes to newspaper articles, instead of serving out in the field.

I've a brother with two sons, 17.5 and 19.

His family is faith based but not particularly "organized religion" based.

Both his sons (my nephews) were strongly considering joining the military; in fact, the older one had passed all of the required testing.

At this point in time, both of them have now decided to go on to civilian tech school instead.

While the younger one has not spoken with me, the older boy asserts he is very uncomfortable with the new gay policy and will not enter a military service that supports it.

Scratch two for the military.

Does the UCMJ still have “conduct unbecoming” and penalties for adultery? I am sure that some “barracks lawyer” will challenge the UCMJ as “offensive”.

And of course there will be no discrimination in regards to accepting blood donations from the gay troops. The general would have no problem with being a recipient of such a donation of course?

No controvery here. I figure that it's likely learned behavior, exacerbated by a chemical imbalance of some sort.

I also differentiate "homosexuality" with "homosexual behavior". Who you're attracted to is uncontrollable (I think) and goes back to my original premise. Who you have sex with is nothing more than behavior that can be controlled. For instance - married people who are faithful to their partners, do it every day.

It's a distinction, IMHO, that's completely lost on gays. They confuse the underlying premise, with the act itself.

Not that my opinion matters all that much, the whole thing has been so politicized that we'll never know the underlying causes.
