They should have more time to re-register. Why was the sig. deadline so early, the VA primary is more than 2 months away.
This is orchestrated by the GOP elite who want Obamney as the candidate, it is fishy, indeed. The only thing they will accomplish is getting Obama re-elected.
Aha. Now we are learning something. The address check was done by computer. For the first time. The result: *ALL* candidates who applied for certification were rejected (Romney and Ron Paul were grandfathered in from 2008).
It’s a process problem. Could be due to an overly-strict address match algorithm. For example if your actual street address is “1234 N Main St” but you wrote down “1234 Main” you got rejected.
Hang in there Katie. It’s bad, real bad, but it’s not over.

I have not had the opportunity to look into the reports of Newts disqualification.
I did however, watch the perry disqualification as it was parsed out to us last night by the media in dribs and drabs with all kinds of innuendo and no facts.
However, when five candidates that otherwise appear to be in the final running are disqulified, simply because 20% of the addresses do not agree, someone is screwing with the process.
When i ran for office years ago, i did not go out to get as many signatures as i could, I simply got enough, and a few more for insurance. NO doubt here the candidates that did get over 10,000, assumed they had enough valid ones, and they would have, if the rules were not changed to allow deletions based on address of registrant.
If Team Snake Romney objects, he will have to handle the public relations for his objection and disenfranchised VA voters are going to be really maaad at him.

Oh, he’ll issue some sort of soft criticism of the process for public consumption. But you can bet that his lawyers will fight like bad newz kennel pitbulls to keep Newt and Rick Perry off the ballot.
That wasn’t directed at Newt, that was directed at you.
We needed the conservatives here to rally around each other rather then tearing down a good man.
Now, the crocodile is eating Newt, and don’t say we didn’t warn you, because we said so.
Now, we need to get Cain back in so that we can get credible opposition to Romney. If you can’t get on the ballot in your home state, you are finished.
Newt’s done. Let’s get Cain back in.

I've been following this story here this morning trying to get a handle as to what is really happening.
After reading this, I'm firmly in the “something stinks here” camp.
Mittens and Rove stink now that I think about it.
I am circulating petitions in another jurisdiction. The elections board warns us to get the address very carefully, including the words street, road, place, terrace, etc. Also to be sure they are printed legibly. I have looked at some of the petitions others have gathered and this information is barely or not even legible and missing at times.
Training petition signature gatherers is very important. We had an opportunity to attend a 1 1/2 hour training by the elections board. I also carry Registration forms with me so if a person has moved I can hand it in with the change of address. Unfortunately, then I also have to go back and get the signature AFTER I have hand carried the Registration form to the elections board. The process is not easy, thus the need for a disciplined, careful campaign organization. I suspect that Newt did not have that in place. In my jurisdiction there is a 10 day opportunity to challenge rejections, no need to go to court.
Here is a link about the Newt rejection. It has over 2,000 comments, some of which are quite interesting. One commenter suggested that he should have gotten 15,000 signatures. I was told I should get about twice the number of signatures required for my candidate. I am linking this, not because I am a Huff Post enthusiast, but because it is what comes up on my AOL email page.
Another thing that I just can’t shake is how this is casting a shadow over the Iowa primary.
This Va debacle has just sucked all the air out of the room, and all the Iowa excitement has evaporated.

I think not.
The petition I was working for was going up against the entire force of the state government which was in opposition. They insisted we obtain 10 percent of the total ballots that had been cast in the previous election, in every district in the state, under their new petition legislation.
We ended up getting 50 percent of the total, and it didn’t matter how many they invalidated, we had 2x as many as we needed in every district.
This is VA - Newt’s home state. 20 percent + wasn’t enough of a buffer, and I could have told you that from the start. You need 50 percent.
But then, what do I know? I’m used to working for professionals, not presidential campaigners.

The Mitt backers have zero power directly in the VA republican party. It is all Bob McDonnell. He is running the show. As I have been trying to say for over a,year McD is ESTABLISHMENT, not a tea party conservative.
Like the fact he attempted to make Gardasil shots mandatory for young girls in TX?
How dare he?
And people say the Iowa jCaucuses are a joke.... not so much now...
