2012 Iowa Caucus Live Thread
Iowa GOP ^ | 1.3.12 | Free Vulcan

Posted on 01/03/2012 8:08:24 AM PST by Free Vulcan

Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.

Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.

We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.

My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:

Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1

Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.

I’d say that’s a fair assumption.

I’m glad for Santorum — Love him. It’s also, in my mind, a win for the unborn. Perhaps he’s the dark horse in all of this.

However, by his own admission, he learned all he knows from Newt. Why not just go with from WHOM he has learned all he knows?

Just remember that Santorum voted to raise the debt ceiling EIGHT TIMES!!!!!!!!! more from Rick Perry questioning Santorum on earmarks..Perry Demands Santorum Explain Earmarks for Teapot Museum, Indoor Rainforest Email1Smaller FontTextLarger Text|Print WATERLOO, Iowa – Texas Gov. Rick Perry demanded former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, whom he dubbed a “prolific earmarker” yesterday, explain his support of earmarks for pet projects, including a teapot museum and an indoor rainforest. “Senator Santorum, just to get a little more specific here, please tell me why you asked taxpayers to support the bridge to nowhere in Alaska. Why did you ask the taxpayers of Iowa to support a teapot museum in North Carolina, an indoor rainforest in Iowa, and the mountain sheep institute, Montana sheep institute? Why were those important enough for you to vote for?” Perry said to more than 100 people crowded into two rooms at Doughy Joey’s Peetza- Joint. Perry, who first launched his direct attacks on Santorum on Thursday, also slammed him for voting in favor of raising the debt ceiling eight times.

Um...”W” supported Specter during the same election. I didn’t like his endorsement at the time, but I understood then it was party politics.

Another take here;

Romney will lose SC no matter who is still in the primary.

I remember a poll a while ago that showed a surprising majority of college students are pro-life. Something like 60%. HOWEVER, only about 1/3rd favored a federal ban. And that’s how they think on nearly every social issue across the board. They have adopted a philosophy of moral relativism. In other words, they don’t believe in an ultimate right or wrong when it comes to judging the morals of others. And we are talking about a very significant percentage of the youth that share this type of thinking.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nonsense.
You still don’t understand the youth. They don’t think the government should be making laws regarding religious topics. They consider abortion a religious topic not fit for political conversation. To them it would be like making it a law that you MUST go to church on sunday and own a bible and say grace...or that schools should be teaching intelligent design. These are not things they want government doing.
The interesting thing is Mitt spent all that money taking down Newt and to a degree Perry but it did not help him one bit in the percentage category. He has been stuck in the low 20s like forever. With Newt finishing forth I don’t expect the big attacks on him for awhile and it will give him time to make a come back. Santorum will be the one getting the full bombardment from the usual suspects.
Agreed. Perry won’t drop out. Paul’s Iowa vote will be discounted, Romney will squeak out a win in New Hampshire and Perry will win South Carolina.
Agreed^2.
FOX has been stuck on the same results now for at least 15 minutes. The numbers aren’t budging.
Look for Newt to open a huge can of whoop-ass on Mitt Romney in the upcoming debates in NH, SC and FL.
I called FOXNEWS and left a message at 1-888-369-4762 telling them what I think of their Rovian pimping of Romney and that I am finally done with them. I also twittered @FOXNEWS what I think of them. You might like to let them know what you think of them as well.
Thanks very much!
I just might give Faux a call.
Best yet, I'm through watching Faux.
Keep in mind many have been raised in home environments that are absolutely atrocious by most standards that I think the FR crowd would hold to. I mean, look at the environment the Cuomo, Kennedy or Guiliani kids grew up in...and keep in mind there are millions of kids like that. There benchmark in life is wondering who is mommy’s boyfriend or who dad is whoring around with this week. Given that, the ‘libertarian’ or more accurately libertine perspective is not surprising.
After tonight, Bachman and Huntsman are no longer a factor, nor can they pull any votes from the rest of the field by enough to matter in New Hampshire.
South Carolina is the first state in which WE have a voice.
Gingrich and Perry have the money to be there against Romney and we can bank they will be there hammering the Establishment, to whom they owe NOTHING. Then the games begin, between the monied power contenders who can knock off Romney, WHICH IS THE FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS.
The youth are against their parents having abortions; they are for anyone else having abortions who “chooses” to do so.
>>Newtie is toast—can’t even make the top three in Iowa...<<
Who are you kidding? There is no way either Romney or Paul will continue beyond Florida. That actually puts Newt in second and Perry in third. I’ll bet that’s the way the two of them look at it also.
