Newt Gingrich Wins South Carolina Primary
By Mark Z. Barabak January 21
Newt Gingrich surged to victory Saturday in the South Carolina primary, riding a pair of strong debate performances to overtake Mitt Romney and stop his seemingly relentless march to the GOP nomination.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Romney appeared headed for second place, with former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas trailing well behind.
With a tight smile, Romney addressed supporters in Columbia about an hour after the polls closed and immediately displayed a more pugnacious style.
Without mentioning his rival by name, Romney contrasted his business background with his chief opponents long Washington resume and sought to turn back Gingrich's attacks on Romney's business success.

The results were a fitting addition to a roller-coaster campaign, marking the first time that three different contestants have won the first three Republican contests.
More important, the outcome stripped Romney of the brief air of inevitablity he enjoyed after seemingly winning Iowa -- an outcome reversed this week in Santorum's favor -- and romping to victory in New Hampshire.
It promised, at the very least, a costly and heated fight ahead of the next primary, Jan. 31 in Florida, and possibly beyond -- to Nevada on Feb. 4 and into March when a rush of contests begins.
South Carolina, a state notorious for its unruly politics, lived up to its reputation, hosting one of the most raucous weeks of the tumultuous presidential campaign. (snip)
Interviews with voters leaving the polls Saturday showed why: Just over half made up their minds in the last few days, and nearly 90% said a big factor was the debates, ...

Yeah, I am surprised that the LSM hasn’t called it a “toss-up”!
ROFL.
Ha ha yea. Love the way Christian conservatives go to the side of an angry bigoted sleezy. Politician. Shameful our founding fathers would cringe. It’s not an angry pit bull we need it is aman of consistent character and a love of what is good for everyone.
Perhaps you are not aware that Gingrich is a historian and wrote a documentary about Pope John Paul II.
He’s no sleepy old man.

[ NV will go Romney without question because of the concentration of Mormons. ]
Newt should adopt this as a strategy..
Challenging Mormons to vote for the country not for their religion..
This may work with some of them..
If Myth wins Nevada and Utah could expose these areas as the “MORON-I belt”..
The Mormons will vote for Mittens the same way blacks vote for 0bama. All the “I’m a Mormon” ads on TV are there as a way of making Mittens palatable. Lots of Mormons were more or less recruited to run in last years’ Republican primaries at the local level.
Newt isn’t peeling off any Mormons.
Hume also said that debates in the general election have marginal influence. He cited only the Reagan-Carter debates as the last one that he recalled making a difference.
I dispute Hume's recollection.
I think that the first Bush-Gore debate was a turning point for Gore. Going into that debate, Bush was the "dummy" and Gore was the "seasoned debator." However, Gore was so obnoxious and arrogant during the debate that most people thought that Bush won it. SNL devastated Gore in the same manner that they devastated Palin eight years later.
Gingrich should take a lesson from Gore if he is the one who ends up debating Obama. I'm not saying that Gingrich should go soft, but Gore was so pompous during the first debate with Bush that he never recovered from it.

Newt for the win.
