I too dreamed of trashing Newt in my maidenform undies but woke to the zot.

SummaryIn 2009, Congressman Gingrich supported a candidate for a special election for the 23rd district in New York that was pro-choice, pro gay marriage and supportive of numerous other items that most Republicans opposes. A more conservative candidate was available, but did not win a primary that consisted of a vote by 11 district members and not a public vote.

Congressman Gingrich came out in suppport for Mrs Scozzafava as she was the selected candidate for the Republican party. He asserted that many of her principles were in line with the Republican party. He appeared on numerous radio shows to defend his support for her.

As the special election neared, Mrs Scozzafava was trailing the Conservative Party candidate Hoffman. She dropped out of the race to prevent from splitting the vote, but threw her support behind the Democrat instead of the Conservative.

After the election, Congressman Gingrich stated that the Scozzafava candidacy was indeed a mistake that never should have happened.

The special election for the 23rd Congressional District is an important test leading up to the mid-term 2010 elections. Our best chance to put responsible and principled leaders in Washington starts here, with Dede Scozzafava.

The Republican Revolution in 1994 started very much like what we see today. Like then, our country is reeling from misguided liberal policies, high taxes and out-of-control spending. This special election in New York’s 23rd Congressional District could be the first

… ... more election of the new Republican Revolution, but we need the momentum to get it started

Book Signing

Congressman Gingrich was confronted at a book signing concerning his support for Dede Scozzafava.

He responded by noting that she was the nominee picked by the local representatives, and that she supported a number of conservative ideals and principles.

Resty (restornu) was a strong Mitt supporter (and co-religionist).

She was known for her bad grammar and overuse of exclamation points.

“...was pro-choice, pro gay marriage and supportive of numerous other items that most Republicans opposes...”

If it were a senator, I would swear you were speaking of Scott Brown.

And if a governor...Mitt Romney.

But don’t just repost something by Malkin from 2009.

And then she used her first post to ping Mark Levin as though this was some big new hairy deal that nobody knew about and she could save her Mittens with it. What a stupid hill to die on.

Well the fact of the matter is that not that long ago we were all really pissed at Newt for supporting Scozzafava.

But politics is unlike any other business. If he can rid us of the disaster we’re currently stuck with then..by all means...go for it!

It looks like the admins have already deleted your account, but I’ll give a straight response to this one anyhoot.

Newt’s flawed; there’s no getting around that. I don’t and never have worn political blinders about any candidate. But, IMHO, he is still probably the best option we have available at this point for the 2012 elections.

As for Scozzafava, would Romney have taken a position any different that Gingrich’s? I really doubt he would have said “Heck no to that RINO, let’s endorse a third-party conservative!”

But couldn’t the same logic be used to say conservatives should pick Romney over Newt because he’s more electable?

You're full of it.

Romney has never been electable outside of the liberal hell-hole of Massachusetts.

No point in thanking the zottee who posted this on behalf of Romney. What's Romney's position on gay 'marriage' and abortion, eh, astroturf?

Well, whoah. I like Newt overall, but it’s ludicrous to say that one dare not point out his legitimate shortcomings, like stupidly endorsing Dede Leftisthead in 2009’s special election. My point was that you can’t legitimately just do so based on a contemporaneous (2009) article. There’d have to be some “new news,” otherwise it’s just a rehash.

Maybe we will get a respite from their incessant posting of the ramblings of their so-called apostles.

"Jeb Bush changed his mind about endorsing Romney, what do you think that indicates?"

Okay, but what about Alan Grayson, Joe Scarborough and Charlie Crist?
