In Newt’s defense, a mandate wasn’t his opinion alone. It was a Heritage Foundation proposal. If anything, he was supporting what he understood conservatives wanted. Since that time, conservative opinion has shifted.

I had been scratching my head over his longevity for a while now, and I believe that it was a righteous ZOT.

If I was Jim Robinson these people would be told ONCE
The next time they post BS when the true facts have been posted many times on this site they are gone

They either know the facts and lack integrity or are just plain stupid

In either case they are not needed here

From your mouth to God's ears! If you are correct, Newt wins. I do note that the sum does not add to 2200+, the total number of delegates. Here is the sum:
Row Labels	Sum of delegates
? 576
Disgrace 50
Newt 1254
RINO 93
Santorum 28
--------------------
Grand Total	2001

Thanks SO much for the info. Would love any links to more information, or book/article suggestions.

As I remember, once Newt left, the GOP turned RINO again, and things started to deteriorate.

Sounds like Newt’s basically an as*kicker and an Establishment buster, and he’s not always nice about it. This type of person will always make enemies of the peopele who just don’t want to work all that hard or come out of their comfort zone. Sounds like a tough teacher who everyone hates, but who you will always remember as the ONE who taught you the most.

Well, we finally know how Palladin wound up. That 1873 Colt Army Model doesn't stand up well to a ZOT. I think Mr. Palladin had a bad Knight.

Now for some fun...

You are right! In the late 90’s when Clinton was mired in scandal after scandal after scandal, the democrats never left him. I remember the media speculating when will the democrat congressional leaders climb into the black sedan and make that trip to Pennsylvania Ave. (as the GOP did to Nixon in ‘74). Never happened, and the the reprobate Clinton is today a well-respected, beloved statesman.

If the republicans had shown even an iota of the support for Gingrich that the democrats showed for the impeached reprobate, we would not have had the backslide that started in ‘99 after Newt’s departure and led over time to such disastrous leadership that we ended up with Nancy Pelosi as Speaker.

>>It is scary how many respectable conservatives have either rejected Gingrich, or worse started to come out endorsing Romney.

I try to look on the bright side. The Romney endorsements by National Review and commentators like Coulter have allowed me to shorten my reading list considerably.

Everyone needs to send NBC and Brian Williams a message, congratulating them for having a two-hour presidential debate without even once mentioning the incumbent president.

The White House already has.

By expedited, I mean they can apply for citizenship faster than is normally the case with green card holders. Below are the general requirements followed by the military exceptions.

You May Qualify for Naturalization if:

You have been a permanent resident for at least 5 years and meet all other eligibility requirements, please visit our General Path to Citizenship page for more information.

You have been a permanent resident for 3 years or more and meet all eligibility requirements to file as a spouse of a U.S. citizen, please visit our For Spouses of U.S. Citizens page for more information.

You have qualifying service in the U.S. armed forces and meet all other eligibility requirements.

Your child may qualify for naturalization if you are a U.S. citizen, the child was born outside the U.S., the child is currently residing outside the U.S., and all other eligibility requirements are met.

Naturalization through Qualifying Service during Periods of Hostilities

Generally, members of the U.S. armed forces who serve honorably for any period of time (even 1 day) during specifically designated periods of hostilities (see below) are eligible for naturalization under section 329 of the INA through such military service.

In general, an applicant for naturalization under INA 329 must:

Have served honorably in active-duty status, or as a member of the Selected Reserve of the Ready Reserve, for any amount of time during a designated period of hostilities and, if separated from the U.S. armed forces, have been separated honorably

Have been lawfully admitted as a permanent resident at any time after enlistment or induction, OR have been physically present in the United States or certain territories at the time of enlistment or induction (regardless of whether the applicant was admitted as a permanent resident)

Be able to read, write, and speak basic English Have a knowledge of U.S. history and government (civics) Have been a person of good moral character during all relevant periods under the law

Have an attachment to the principles of the U.S. Constitution and be well disposed to the good order and happiness of the U.S. during all relevant periods under the law

There are also peacetime provisions, which don't apply presently since we are in a period of hostilities.

Well done and very informative, thank you.

Something else I'd like to see a spotlight on is the July 1997 GOP-attempted coup to force Newt from his speakership position. The four ringleaders were Bill Paxon, Tom DeLay, Dick Armey, and none other than John Boehner who played perhaps the largest role.

It was Dick Armey's chief of staff who blew the whistle on it and informed Speaker Gingrich that the coup was to take place the following day. Gingrich called a meeting with the schemers, letting them know they were busted. Bill Paxon was the only one Newt was able to strip of his position, since he was the only one Newt had appointed, while the others were elected.

To say there is no love lost between Gingrich and Boehner would be a huge understatement. As the saying goes, when you plot to kill the king, be sure you leave him dead. The prospect of Gingrich returning to power, this time as POTUS, must be John Boehner's worst nightmare. For Newt, it may be a case of revenge being a dish best served cold. Paybacks are a bitch, and I have a feeling that Speaker Gingrich can hold a grudge for a very long time.

I think this is just one of the things that has the GOP Establishment, including John Boehner and his cronies, in an absolute panic.

Good point, LOL! And, for me, the Gingrich endorsements from the likes of Fred Thompson, Sarah Palin, Rick Perry, and Michael Reagan confirmed who is worthy of serious attention.
