Forget global warming - it's Cycle 25 we need to worry about
The Mail Online ^ | January 29, 2012 | David Rose

The supposed ‘consensus’ on man-made global warming is facing an inconvenient challenge after the release of new temperature data showing the planet has not warmed for the past 15 years.

The figures suggest that we could even be heading for a mini ice age to rival the 70-year temperature drop that saw frost fairs held on the Thames in the 17th Century.

Based on readings from more than 30,000 measuring stations, the data was issued last week without fanfare by the Met Office and the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit. It confirms that the rising trend in world temperatures ended in 1997.

Warmer winters mean a longer growing season, which means higher agricultural productivity.

And what greenhouse gas is also the building block for vegetation (crops!)?

Can anybody say, "Carbon Dioxide"?

More CO2, more growth.

I had to put up with a 125-degree temperature change last year from February to May (that’s 90 days). I prefer 112 to -13.

Yes, but didn’t we just see all those horror stories about how much snow Alaska has gotten?

They were expecting me to be one of those 99% of the "scientist." Little do they know...very few operational meteorologist believe in AGW. Very few NWS mets believe in AGW....even though its NOAA's official party line. Only people who get paid to see AGW...see AGW. Those of us who get paid to forecast the weather and just OBSERVE what's going on...do not see it.

Yeah...I think I actually gave them a lot to think about.

The MET has, of course, responded:

Met Office in the Media: 29 January 2012
Today the Mail on Sunday published a story written by David Rose entitled “Forget global warming – it’s Cycle 25 we need to worry about”.
This article includes numerous errors in the reporting of published peer reviewed science undertaken by the Met Office Hadley Centre and for Mr. Rose to suggest that the latest global temperatures available show no warming in the last 15 years is entirely misleading.
Despite the Met Office having spoken to David Rose ahead of the publication of the story, he has chosen to not fully include the answers we gave him to questions around decadal projections produced by the Met Office or his belief that we have seen no warming since 1997.

“However, what is absolutely clear is that we have continued to see a trend of warming, with the decade of 2000-2009 being clearly the warmest in the instrumental record going back to 1850. Depending on which temperature records you use, 2010 was the warmest year on record for NOAA NCDC and NASA GISS, and the second warmest on record in HadCRUT3.”

Furthermore despite criticism of a paper published by the Met Office he chose not to ask us to respond to his misconceptions. The study in question, supported by many others, provides an insight into the sensitivity of our climate to changes in the output of the sun.

I smell a big "OOPSIE" in the making

I don’t practice restraint in my consumption of energy out of concern for the environment. I do it to save money year-round, year after year.

I have noticed that there is a large amount of hype with regards to the solar max cycle that we are FINALLY into. However, this max will probable not be too strong and of shorter duration. But it is interesting to watch the “scary” news on “increased activity”. (Well sure - no sunspots for years and we start getting some - it can seem pretty exciting - but it’s really just normal.)

Sort of like sex!

I forgot to mention. If one looks at the ice core data, we are past due for a MAJOR glaciation. (Not frost on the Thames, but 2000 feet of ice on the Thames type stuff).

“Studies show up to 86% of ALL temp. sensors are heat contaminated due to heat island.”

I have a photo of a weather station next to the “green” educational building at our GREAT zoo (Seattle). It is right next to the A/C system exhaust system in a walled/concrete area. I imagine associated with such a building it is somehow tied in to the land-based system.

My daughter used it a few years ago as part of her sixth-grade poster debunking AGW! The teacher talked to her about her comments in class, and that she should probably just keep quiet as they would probably just draw ridicule by her classmates. So she countered with the poster board! (The teacher gave her an “A” too!)

Good for her. And that is typical. 6.2% of the weather stations out there are contaminated by over 5C! That is NOT a small number and it is having a HUGE impact on the global "average." The biggest factor is the overnight lows. In the cities...it just doesn't get as cold as it used to because radiative cooling can't do its business with all the concrete around.

YET...these brilliant scientist say this has NO or little impact. All I know is I would LOVE to ask Al Gore about it.
