Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich invoked the spirit of the Founding Fathers by paraphrasing the Declaration of Independence in his speech to supporters following his second-place finish in the Florida Republican presidential primary.

Gingrich, a trained historian and author, began his 15-minute speech by noting President Abraham Lincoln’s 1863 Gettysburg Address at the dedication of the first national military cemetery when he spoke of “government of the people, by the people, for the people."

“And we’re going to have people power to defeat money power in the next six months,” he said in a reference to Florida victor Mitt Romney, whom he referred to as the “Massachusetts moderate.”

Closing out his remarks, Gingrich stressed his commitment to unleashing the spirit of the American people and called on supporters to reach out to friends across the country to tell them they have a chance to nominate a conservative.

"I promise you that, if I become your president, I pledge to you my life, my fortune, my sacred honor," he concluded. ...

As Christians we believe in forgiveness Unfortunately the Christian vote alone will not carry the election.

I totally agree. I liked Newt's speech last night, up until that line. The authors of the Declaration of Independence would have most likely been hung if they had "lost" vs the king of England.

Sure, nowadays, people aren't hung. Instead there's the median driven politics of personal destruction.

And of course there's the death threats.

Ask the Palins what that's like.

besides, who are you to judge?

I had not elevated myself to that level, nor would I ever be so presumptuous. I assumed we were talking about an election, not the judgment of Newt upon his passing. The voters are not the judge in the context you have assigned to this discussion, thus they are free to make their own determination and I believe (as much as I like Newt) that he cannot win.

I think We the People need to rise up like a Phoenix, get Mr. Gingrich elected (simultaenously spanking the GOP-e), get many more of our people in Congress, and get take our country back.

Our window of opportunity is closing rapidly.

Santorum should thank Newt for helping him win the election in PA. He rode in on Newt’s coat tails and due to the gop revolution and contract with America. Little Ricky doesnt stand a chance of winning the gop nomination.

[I]t was written and subscribed to (in the Declaration) by men who would indeed have lost their fortunes and lives if they had not won. Newt doesn’t face that prospect if he loses

If Obama is reelected, we all may lose our fortunes...if not our lives.

The country hangs in the balance...Newt recognizes how dire the situation is.

Newt is the absolute best candidate running ..period. We know of the great accomplishments he made as speaker..historical achievements. Newt has atoned for his past..who the hell are YOU to judge? that is between him and GOD. He is a 68 yr old grandfather now and happily married..he has done a lot for the catholic church and his beliefs. BTW..read the bible about many of God’s chosen people..bet you would trash them too.

Well Then I and many other Christian will take our vote elsewhere As a Christian I can NOT under any circumstance vote for Romney if The GOP-e loses so be it but at least I didn’t lose my soul

Jesus Said in Matthew 10:33

But whoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

King James Version

What that means to me is Mormon’s mock God and call Jesus a polygamist If I vote for Romney I’m voting against Jesus the true and ever living God.

Terrific speech by Newt.

He laid out all the reasons why conservatives should support him.

And declared war on the Republican establishment.

You’ve been here long enough to know that ploy is useless. We’ve all read stuff here over the years and remembered what threads were about, but do not remember the date and thread number. If you must, go back to any election time, and you will see that personal baggage is a very big part of what freepers discuss.

How many have you asked about how important a candidates morals are?

Thank you salvation. I suspect there are many on this line who know little about your post and alot about the money they receive from a certain candidate. Paid trolls don’t stay long around here I’m told. Something to do with cat urine.

I loved his speech last night. I hope it gets lots of airtime in Florida today and some people regret voting for Romney. Not that it does any good looking back . . . but might very well forward. I’m tellin’ ya . . . I think becoming a grandfather can change many men and I think Newt is one of them. I’ve seen it several times in my lifetime with very driven men, not as high up as Newt, but I’ve seen it.

Honor once lost can be found again. If not then there is no hope for redemption, forgiveness, and transformation. Yet, I believe there is hope, I believe there can be an acceptance of personal responsibility for one’s failures...in that one can begin to find one’s honor again.

I do not disagree with you said, but I am dealing with the probabilities of Newts chances of being elected.

Some are taking the high road and standing solidly behind their well intended beliefs, good for them. I believe doing so will get Obama a second term.

Defeatest or realist, can be a fine line.
