Just when Barack Obama might have been feeling comfortable about his re-election, two major polls found his approval rating taking a dip and both Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum gaining on him. So what’s going on?
The real aberration may have been the recent rise in Obama’s approval rating and the margins he held over the top GOP candidates. Looking at the Real Clear Politics (RCP) average of polls, Obama’s approval rating went into negative range (more disapprove than approve) in July 2010 and briefly went positive in May 2011 after Navy Seals killed Osama bin Laden. The spread then quickly went to as much as 10 points negative in August. Upward movement began near the end of 2011 and peaked at a positive one or two points last month.
Now, with the CBS/New York Times poll showing Obama’s approval at negative six and the ABC/Washington Post poll at negative four, the RCP average is less than one point to the negative. (Note that Gallup’s daily tracking reported through this past weekend has Obama’s approval at a positive six points and a Reuters/Ipsos poll released yesterday had his approval at 50%.)
In match-ups with Romney, Obama’s lead in the RCP average has dropped from statistically significant margins to less than three points. (ABC/Washington Post has Romney ahead by two.) The President’s lead over Santorum has also slipped, but is still a healthy six points.
Looking at the big picture, realize how closely the nation is divided politically. The 2000 and 2004 Presidential elections were both very close. Each of the last three national elections (2006, 2008 and 2010) turned the party in power out of control of either Congress or the Presidency. Of course the Republicans are looking bad right now, with the primaries making everyone of them look bad, but I suspect that once a candidate is decided, he will poll even stronger against Obama. Then it will be up to the MSM to bring him down.
One can’t help but wonder somewhat persistently just how many people in these polls say they’re for Obama because it’s politically correct, then hang up the phone thinking, “Another term for that Bozo? Never!”
If Obama had any sense to begin with, he would have been worried about his reelection before his inauguration. It’s too late now.
It’s a state by state war.
And while Baraq can accumulate large popular vote margins in NY and Cal, the battle will be won in Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, NC, and Va.

i continue to shake my head in amazement how such a pathetic human being was elevated to the highest office in the land, and how so many drones will vote to keep him there.
My sweetest dream is where I’m transported back to the time when I had to go vote for either Jimmah, or Reagan.
The excitement for Reagan, the level of disgust (utter and pure) with Jimmah, and hearing complete agreement standing in line with virtually EVERY voter.
My most delicious, sweetest dream is that of Obama replacing Jimmah.....the Tsunami, the 1000 foot wave of voter disgust engulfing black racism, white guilt, liberal idiocy, independent selfishness, and MSM treachery...

She's gone from being one of ObaMao's strongest supporters in 2008 to absolutely can't stand the guy now. She tells Mom that she will vote for either Romney or Santorum this year, maybe even Gingrich if it comes down to it.

I also pray that Obama has a long life and post presidency just like Jimbo and every time he opens his pie hole, he reminds the current generation of what fools they were. Just as Jimbo does to those of my generation.

I was once interviewed by the Gallup Poll. It was in 1976 and I was living in northern Virginia (suburban D.C.). I remember the year because Carter was running against Ford. I was so pissed off at Ford for being such a RINO (sound familiar?) that I told them I’d vote for Carter even though I had no intention of voting for Carter. I figured I was talking for millions of people and Ford needed a wake-up call.
So, yes, I am partly responsible. I’m sorry. :(
The Sheep have realized how badly they got fleeced in 2008.
I have been tempted to say that I approve of BO’s job just to throw them off but have never actually done it.
I’m from Georgia..back in 76 before the election, I’d mustered out and returned home after 8 years overseas.
Got a job for $150/week, with a wife and baby. It was hard then. I remember waking up the day after the election and hearing Jimmy won. There was never a time in the military when I felt so deflated.
I also remember scrimping for gas to go to college on the GI bill, my wife working in a bakery for minimum wage and having to be Charlie Hustle for three straight hard years of school. We lived through Jimmy and eventually won - not lucky, we won because of hard work and the votes of my generation against that bastard.
Fast forward a buttload of years - I (we,and my family) do okay - very well - I just bought my minimum wage bride a new Explorer that cost more than I ever thought to make in the military, and then some. She takes our grand daughters everywhere in it.
We’ve got another bastard in charge - it is time to do something about him.
