Rural kids, parents angry about Labor Dept. rule banning farm chores (nanny state cont'd)
The Daily Caller ^ | 4/25/12 | Patrick Richardson

A proposal from the Obama administration to prevent children from doing farm chores has drawn plenty of criticism from rural-district members of Congress. But now it’s attracting barbs from farm kids themselves.

The Department of Labor is poised to put the finishing touches on a rule that would apply child-labor laws to children working on family farms, prohibiting them from performing a list of jobs on their own families’ land.

Under the rules, children under 18 could no longer work “in the storing, marketing and transporting of farm product raw materials.”

The question is ...will Americans? Or more aptly...will ‘fly-over’ country?

Don't know the age of the average FReeper. But I have good memories of working on my cousins farm, working on a ranch( cattle and other critters). Farming was hard, bloody hard work but it was good clean hard living. I miss it.

Some of my cousins lost everything with the Pelosi river smaelt BS and now it looks like my last cousins farm will be in jeopardy( I won't say the city but near Hollister Ca) also the old farm( aunts) full of apples in Watsonville, so many farms will be hit. Heck they need a drivers license to run tractiors also!

They've ruined a brothers fishing business not long ago with salmon/crab, name it. He now works two jobs at a grocery store and had to sell his two boats that had been in the family since the 1920's. A half brother is homeless because of the logging/pulp mills( he has a degree in forestry).

We got paid in experience, in trade sometimes, sometimes cash but the stuff I learned on the farm and ranches was priceless. I can imagine family farms gutted finally, and the government parceling it out or taking over when no one in government knows how to raise cattle, or goats, or sheep or horses.

No one understands when or how to irrigate or when to plant or when/how to prune, or how to kill critters that eat your fruit or ruin your cattle. How would they even know what kind of hay or oats in drought or which areas to use at which times with free range? Oh gads, it'll just hurt so many more farmers and ranchers and the price of food will skyrocket. Co-ops will go under and all for what?

I can smell a nightmare and it smells like dead farms, dead cattle and brown rotted fruit, moldy alfalfa and dry as a bone farms and for what? People have been farming this way for thousands of years, and they think there's a more effective new way by giving their kids W-2 forms and a minimum wage? And what of welding and carpentry and electrical and fixing machinery insted of subcontracting? These skills are taught at an early age and will help in hard times.

These skills for young kids are invaluable and just owning/running a farm is such a feeling of pride, the indomitable spirit of America and American's...sorry this bad tangent, this bad writing but this is actually making me cry and it takes a lot for me to break. It's a damned tragedy all for _u_____ politics. _a___ them all to hell.

Back in 1962, we got put in the fields picking green beans. Hot and humidity almost killed us. We got a penny a pound for the work.

I made $5.00 one day! Thought I was in hog heaven! Then the weather turned dry and hotter. We picked the same amount of beans but I never made more than $2.50 a day after that. The buyer then upped the pay to a whole 1 1/2 cents lb.

The next year it was back to the bean fields. It was so hot my brother passed out in the fields.

Back in my youth, before Sam Walton broke the economic stranglehold the Chicken Men had on this country, I worked at what I could get. Shoveling chicken manure, hauling eggs, feeding chickens for growers who got sick.

Then I went to work in a chicken hatchery and hauled many a turkey egg to another hatchery miles away.

The Turkey growers often told me just how “dumb a turkey is, and the only thing dumber was a turkey grower!”

That's when I was 12 and doing the cherry picking. The income is about right, 6 - 8 lugs at 75 cents each - about 5 bucks.

Sorry about the beans, at least we could stand straight up and pick without having to bend over. Of course we were constantly yelled at for just picking the lower cherries and not climbing the ladders into the trees to get the higher ones.

“The Department of Labor is poised to put the finishing touches on a rule” Can these dipshi#s just make up any rule they want?

For federal corporate individuals, officers and employees, pretty much. Which, you might notice, is a mere fraction of the American population of natural persons without corporate standing. Which means if the bulk of the American population would take a legal class and learn how they're being lied to, then virtually all of the tyranny being imposed upon them would literally vanish, as they realized it doesn't legally apply to them. And that way, without riots or any other disturbance, the Leftists would be comply broken and America would be returned to its genuine, original freedoms - which were actually there right in front of them all along, hidden by a vast government smoke screen of inapplicable administrative rules.

Well, that's good news, right? The country is saved, right? Yeah. Right.

:: crickets ::

This is a means by which to drive the family farm out of business. ADM will benefit.

So will illegals.

The point is not about being universally enforceable, it is a new tool for any LEO with an agenda. If they made breathing illegal it would be unenforceable too. Then, anyone can be arrested.

The laws against child labor were exclusively part of the feminist cause. Susan B. Anthony and her friends pushed against young people being allowed to work with their fathers, after their fathers took custody in adulterous wife divorces. Feminism is one of the main prongs of the elitist effort to keep working class families from competing in business.

Republicans in Congress would vote along with Democrats against “child labor” again, if they could. Their ruling political regulator class bosses wouldn’t have it any other way.

Have fun. Enjoy the slide. It’s one of the consequences of popular, anti-family, anti-American policies.

Actually, I think 0bama's Labor Department has a good point...

People working on Collective Farms don't have to know anything much about farming. All they have to do is follow the 5 Year Plan and and meet the Commissar's quotas!

"Hey you idiots who hate Mitt Romney and say he equals Obama. .... Do you think he would be doing this??? Wake up ya dopes!!!"

That's a good question, although it's not really stated as a question. Let's see--yet another governor without much of a voting record, who can be run as a stealth socialist candidate for the bipartisan, government/government-linked, political/regulator class.

We can only guess, as usual. So here goes. Would Romney have voted in favor of S.510 before the inclusion of the Tester Amendment? Well, how about this. Is he in favor of freedom for all?

In a South Carolina debate, Romney said that he would sign the National Defense Authorization Act: very anti-Fourth-Amendment. He has also administered against the Second Amendment.

IMO, he's a tool in the ruination being administered by the political/regulator class. But the debt regime is continuing toward collapse, so maybe he is as irrelevant as Obama or any other master of ceremonies.

MC Romney. Has a corny ring to it. Have fun. Enjoy the slide.

And what is the easiest way to control a population boys and girls, guns you say? Oh no, the answer is FOOD.

Put the family farms out of buisness and all that is left is the multi- billion agri-buisness corporations wholly controlled by the federal government.

Dr. Savage said a few years ago on his show that you won’t see revolution in this country until men and their children are hungry. I hope he’s right cause the government control of food is coming, folks.

From a family of berry pickers. Some for money, some for eating....Wonderful memories. My grandmother was the best. We picked strawberries, blackberries, blueberries...Told stories, laughed, ate till we were sick, and ate more.
Have my berry patches up and growing....along with an orchard of cherries, apples, pears, peaches, plums, grapes.....The goodies are always worth the labor.
