Call it the return of the Reichsfluchtsteuer.

....

“I think Schumer can probably find the legislation to do this. It existed in Germany in the 1930s and Rhodesia in the ‘70s and in South Africa as well,” Norquist said. “He probably just plagiarized it and translated it from the original German.”

The Reichsfluchsteuer, or Reich flight tax, that German government imposed on Jews trying to flee in the 1930s was 25 percent; Schumer and his Senate colleague Bob Casey, Democrat of Pennsylvania, want 30 percent. Give Schumer some credit for creativity.

According to Norquist, the New Yorker did not just plagiarize and translate. He also raised the rate. ....

How is someone becoming an expat for money and different than a draft dodger? I would argue the leaving for money is lower than a draft dodger fleeing to Canada.

Another great example of the liberal war against liberty. I doubt we need more of these......

I also doubt that Chuckie and his friends will be able to get this into law; so far everything they've been doing for the past couple of months has been a cigar exploding in their face. I think this one will too.

I think we should at least have a tax for people leaving the country after becoming billionaires...

I think you are on the wrong website - I think you are looking for DU, based on your comments. On this site, we do not believe the government owns the private property of its citizens. As long as a citizen pays all taxes legally due on any income earned as a citizen, he/she should not be forced to pay an additional "tribute" to the government in order to leave the country.

We won’t be able to travel soon.

How long before the gates of America close like Nazi Germany’s did?

I mean, can you believe that IN OUR LIFETIMES we have seen America almost completely Soviet-ized?

I believe that within 1 to 5 years, my comment, above, will get me detained and shipped somewhere for 're-education'.

Seriously.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, some people voted for Hitler in the early stages of his political career.

Lots of people favor less liberty, and a closed border, repressive police state -- and they will vote for it.

I guess you're just one of those. No worries.

I don’t think we are following the Nazi model. More, the Soviet one.

RE :”That is what Mr. Norquist was talking about, though, when he spoke to The Hill newspaper about the legislation proposed by Sen. Schumer, the Democrat of New York, to tax at a 30 percent rate the $2 billion capital gains of Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, who renounced his American citizenship before Facebook’s initial public offering.
“I think Schumer can probably find the legislation to do this. It existed in Germany in the 1930s and Rhodesia in the ‘70s and in South Africa as well,” Norquist said. “He probably just plagiarized it and translated it from the original German.”
Sen. Schumer is an easy target, but the blame for this one is bipartisan, as is so often the case in Washington. The speaker of the House, John Boehner, a Republican, told ABC News’ “This Week” that Saverin’s exit from America was “outrageous” and that he would support Schumer’s legislation if it is necessary to prevent people from leaving America to avoid taxes.

Good old Boehner who pushed the TARP vote on his members in 2008 is showing his statist colors. This just proves my point : Beating Dems and then taking control with the WRONG Republican leaders is a recipe for disaster, even if you think the alternative wants to destroy the country, but Republicans are just well meaning fools that do it by accident.

Republican rally point : Vote Republican because they only help destroy the country by accident(we have to get lucky sooner or later).

Just wondering ... Where is it in scripture that envy is a vice?

Exodus 20:17 (NKJV)
You shall not covet your neighbors house; you shall not covet your neighbors wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbors.

cov·et   [kuhv-it]
verb (used with object)
1. to desire wrongfully, inordinately, or without due regard for the rights of others: to covet another's property.

You seem to believe that all money rightfully belongs to the government.

That pretty much makes you a Communist.

You just aren't honest enough to admit it.

A couple of days ago when this story first broke, I noted that one of the first things fascist states do when consolidating power is pass laws to prevent the expatriation of wealth. And sadly, seems like some right on this forum are cool with that.

It starts here, bro, on what you could leigitmately argue for... but soon enough, the controls are bastardized to the point that anyone who wants to leave must pay a ‘fee’ more than anyone can reasonably afford. This is simply the establishment of a financial Berlin Wall. We start with the rich, then the word ‘rich’ is defined down to capture you and me.
