I think there is a lot of whistling past the graveyard going on among conservatives who think that Obamacare is really in the political crosshairs now, and indeed, could lead to the defeat of the presidents reelection effort. I worry that the opposite is true. Sure, opponents who care a lot about the constitutionality and policy propriety of the ACA are very upset and motivated to defeat the president. But they already were. For the relatively uninvolved, the message of the Roberts ruling, despite the justices protests to the contrary, is that Obamacare is A-okay. That will increase the laws popularity just as Roe v. Wade did with abortion. Alas.
HHS can't exempt anyone. Only the House can by originating a bill, getting a majority vote, passage in the Senate, and prez sig.
The exemptions are just one more law suit to throw at them.
No union exemptions, no friend of barack exemptions, etc. unless the exemption was originated in the House, passed in Senate, and signed.
Unless I'm wrong.
Whadda ya expect form NRO?
RINO Central.
Pansies Personified.
The people who will not be penalized by the tax are the ones more likely to see Obamacare for what it is and would vote Republican, anyway.
The people who will be shocked and dismayed when the tax bill arrives, or their insurance premiums double or coverage is dropped by their employer or the one doctor in their 'hood closes up shop -- these are the ones who thought they were going to get a free lunch. ("Law of Unintended Consequences")
I disagree. Obamacare’s unpopularity is only growing as people learn more about it. Now, a single judge has determined it is ok if you view the mandate as a tax........which is the largest tax increase in world history. And it is supposed to be more popular now??
I doubt it.
It’s too bad people won’t feel the full force of this debacle until well after the election. It will now become a permanent drag on the economy and job creation. Hopefully that will lead to the defeat of this fraudulent pig and the corrupt democrat party in November.
You overestimate the American people.
This is a whole different ballgame. The Left was hiding behind the Commerce Clause and all that bull about anybody making under $250K would never see a tax increase. The Left knew that they could conflate this massive tax increase by using commerce and using the insurance companies as their tax collector. That fraud is now off the table and we have to talk the real cost to the 50% of us who actually pay income taxes.
When businesses totally freeze new hires on account of this situation, the 8.2% current unemployment rate will only go up between now and the election. Last night Stuart Varney said next week’s unemployment report is already looking bad and that it’s quite likely the rate goes up from the current 8.2%. Liberals have to run on their votes for this Obamination and face the voters. If we can’t win with this we might as well pack it in.
Wait till they get their $600 a month insurance bill then we’ll see how popular it is.
so what does that do to all the ObamaCare waivers? Are they out the window now?
The voters who are moved by this are the ones who feel strongly about it. I don’t see where some middle of the road voter who doesn’t pay too much attention or have a strong opinion on Obamacare now votes for Obama because of this. They weren’t thinking about it before and they won’t be thinking about it in Nov.
lets go with the assumption that your right.
Who is going to stop Zero and his minions?
Uhh huh... that’s right.
No one.
It is amazing the stuff that is flying around.
Roberts used one of the oldest fallacies in the books, the "let's argue about what we call it fallacy." Because he calls it a tax, it is ok, forget about what it actually IS defined by what it DOES. This is actually quite infantile not worthy of a Harvard Freshman, much less one of its most esteemed law school graduates.
Any good conservative ought to be completely and thoroughly outraged, and let Roberts know that the only one taken in by his sophmoric rhetoric is himself. Instead folks try to argue that he outsmarted everyone and "really knew what he was doing."
Agreed! In spades.
Sorry, I blame the GOPE. We have suffered, begged and marched for them to “catch on”. They have played Russian Roulette to secure their own entrenched power and now it’s done. We even have a socialist at the top of our ticket.
What a ride. And conservatives who pose no threat now will be guaranteed even less in the future. We are nursing at full suckle the government teat and will not part with such a breast until the host herself, America, is dead.
I don't know.
I’m afraid that you are right on this.
People will say to themselves that Obama and the Dems were right all along and the evil Republicans really were just against it because they are racist and will oppose anything Obama does.
The worse part is that instead of it galvanizing the vote against him, it makes him look like he’s done something worthwhile and I hate to say it, probably increases his chances of reelection.
Its a Tax and if one pays all pays. Obama can't waive Warren Buffett on paying taxes
