And so begins our annual 7th TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot.

Thank you humble gunner for the graphic.

TexasCowboy (aka COB1) was a true Texas gentleman, great friend, patriot, and a firm believer in the 2nd Amendment. It is truly an honor to continue a tradition he started many years ago, hosting shoots for FRiends around the great state of Texas.

Many FReepers are coming into town on Thursday so that they can have a tourist day on Friday. Those lucky people are going to be made (a good) miserable Thursday evening by enjoying TheMom’s Kick Ass Enchilada’s.

The only set tourist place is The Lady Lex.

Friday evening we will meet at Captain Benny’s, 103 Fulton Beach Road Fulton, TX 78382, at 8:00 p.m., for a delicious seafood dinner. (They do not take credit cards or serve liquor ~ so remember to bring your cash & booze.)

Saturday morning we meet for breakfast at Alice Faye’s, 910 North Fulton Beach Road, Fulton, TX 78358, at 8:00 a.m. The shoot is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. at, Schwenke’s Gun & Pistol Range, 4407 FM 1069 Aransas Pass, TX, 78336. Mr. Schwenke has reserved the 25 yard shooting station for our group to use as “home base”. The only major rule at this range is do not shoot the livestock. A BBQ lunch will be served at 12:30ish.

Once the shooting is done some of us will be going to the Rockport Seafair, while others will go back to the Pelican Bay cottages for some R&R. Saturday evening will be filled with yummy junk food and margaritas!

According to the forecast, it looks as the weather will be perfect. Lows in the mid-sixty’s, highs in the mid-eighty’s.

I am open for anything too, I just love those rivers in the hill country. I am still looking for a place for us to stay. My sis in law has family reunions down there a lot and they have a huge family. I will call her and ask about places to stay and get back to y’all. I found a great place last night but they don’t allow pets. Not sure Kity dog will approve....lol.

Terrel Pistol and Rifle range is awesome.
They have the IDPA shoots and the 3 gun shoots and they serve lunch.

Actually, here’s a better site.

http://www.nra.org/nralocal.aspx

You select the city & state and a number of miles radius.

And this is a working area of Texas.

Mustang island and Padre Island are much more scenic

Yeah, not by a long shot. It didn’t even list Elm Fork, which is where I go.

Well...that’s a good question...lol. I will have him over when we all get together and we can try to twist his arm. It is his inlaws place but he pretty much runs it. We throw knives and hatchets out there and he was telling me his son blew up a barrel of tanerite stuff not too long ago but he doesn’t have stations or dirt hills or anything. It is pretty rustic but he put some bathrooms in and a few cabins. That is where we went to watch the Perseid meteor shower not long ago. It was a lot of fun.

You will like him. You reminded me of him when we met. He is one of my best friends!

I have to get some practice in at 25 yards before the next shoot. I’ve been drilling on quick draws and accuracy at 5 - 20 feet. I was totally unprepared and shooting way high at Schwenke’s.

We have relatives in Corpus Christi. We’ve talked about visiting for years, but our schedules haven’t been cooperative. One of these years we will go.

I think you will love my lease on the Trinity River.
It is off the map and private but there is good chow close by.

It really is the best of the Texas coast. You should go. No big waves unless there is a hurricane, but very nice.
