The Voters who stayed Home (bitter pill: Republicans re-elected Obama)
National Review Online ^ | 11/10/12 | McCarthy

Posted on 11/11/2012 11:27:31 AM PST by pabianice

The key to understanding the 2012 election is simple: A huge slice of the electorate stayed home.

The punditocracy — which is more of the ruling class than an eye on the ruling class — has naturally decided that this is because Republicans are not enough like Democrats: They need to play more identity politics (in particular, adopt the Left’s embrace of illegal immigration) in order to be viable. But the story is not about who voted; it is about who didn’t vote. In truth, millions of Americans have decided that Republicans are not a viable alternative because they are already too much like Democrats. They are Washington. With no hope that a Romney administration or more Republicans in Congress would change this sad state of affairs, these voters shrugged their shoulders and became non-voters.

“This is the most important election of our lifetime.” That was the ubiquitous rally cry of Republican leaders. The country yawned. About 11 million fewer Americans voted for the two major-party candidates in 2012 — 119 million, down from 130 million in 2008. In fact, even though our population has steadily increased in the last eight years (adding 16 million to the 2004 estimate of 293 million Americans), about 2 million fewer Americans pulled the lever for Obama and Romney than for George W. Bush and John Kerry.

That is staggering.

The “voters stayed home” meme is now being pulled out of the Axelrod/Soros quiver. To steal an election, you do it by a slim margin to make it seem plausible, then follow up with unprovable but again plausible scenarios to silence those who remain unconvinced. Of course the suspect numbers are precisely what’s being used to support the faulty conclusion, but that’s just right wing nonsense. All the talking heads except Savage will run with this next week, mark my words. The polls were jam packed around here, some closed early even with people in line (Rio Rancho, NM). Everyone I know voted.

Great post, SpaceBar.

Elsie I don’t have a zot button, I expressed my opinion just as you do, usually in some mile long post that no one reads.

Here's a short one:

Elsie, you twisted my sentence around in a feeble attempt to argue against the overwhelming logic in my post. It didn’t work.

Sorry, the only thing different about MY sentence compared to yours are the Subjects.

The LOGIC is EXACTLY the same.

As for whether it 'worked' or not is left to the other readers of them both.

You’re as bad as a Democrat in your ability to use logic and reason.

I still like your logic; though!

It just saddens me that there are people who just don’t understand the “lesser of two evils rule.”

It appears that you are just a bit more than 'saddened' by the FACT that I REFUSE to vote for the 'lesser' evil.

I am shocked that so many American's will vote for EVIL at all!

And then to turn around and berate those who hold some values a bit higher than their own; is AMAZING!!

....what they actually have done is track names that HAVE NOT VOTED IN MANY, MANY elections cycles....and vote them.

Do we Republicans even HAVE any of these?

Here is a petition you can sign at Change.org to request a full recount. I suggest we just focus on the swing states, but it is true that many Congressional and Senate races are also affected, from Allen West to, I believe, Mia Love. Mia was up by 10% the week before the election and lost by 3,000 votes to Matheson in a state that went 73% for Romney. Not likely!

My name is Mia Love; and I'm a MORMON (loser)

Faith is also important to Mia Love. She was influenced by her sister to join the LDS Church, because she found her sister was at peace with it. Love was particularly impressed by the Church's doctrine about eternal families and how everything that the Church teaches is to protect and nurture those relationships. Like many other LDS members, she cut an "I'm A Mormon" video:    ooops....

Try looking at the precinct level stats. I am. A couple of precincts look funny, but mor in terms of D over vote, NOT R UNDEPERFORMANCE.

I'll let you know if I see different.

But there were some early indicators of R underperformance that we saw and thought would be overcome on Election Day: remember the absentee spreadsheets? While D absentees were down so were Rs (not as much, but they were down). On Election Day, Bill Cunningham saw late in the day---BEFORE THE VOTES WERE EVEN TRANSMITTED---that R zones were running low despite the "lines."

Finally, in Montgomery Co. OH, and we are checking on others, the "turnout" was caused by consolidation of 500+ voting stations into 340, drastically slowing down the process and causing lines. It was inefficiency, not turnout , that caused the lines.

As I say, we are examining the strange looking precincts.

About the only republican on the scene today that could win with the dumwits is Dennis Miller. He is hip, cool, quick on his feet, articulate, is great with the late night crowd, kinda looks Hispanic and can jive talk. But can he govern? Who really cares?

As your tagline suggests - it takes one American Idol to beat another.

As for open primaries, the republicans love the idea as it tends to moderate the field. Our primary problem this year was that we had too many conservative candidates to choose from, and we kept whittling them down till only Romney was left.

I am sad for Romney that he lost. He may not be a conservative, but he is a good person with sterling character. I would rather have a man like that as president than a shallow conservative who just mouths the cliches.

To me, that is our biggest problem as a country; we don’t value honesty, decency, and goodness. We are sliding to Gomorrah.

We need to win senate seats this next off-year election and build a more conservative House that gets rid of Whore House Bone-head. We need to put ‘lame duck’ status on O as soon as possible.

[OK — that’s my 2 cents for now. I’ll stay away for a while as promised. FRegards ....]

The bottom line is that the GOP wants the conservative VOTE without offering conservatives ANYTHING. No wonder people stayed home.

Now the estabishment RINO GOP get’s exactly what they’ve always wanted—the chance to “cross the isle”. I’m sure John Boehner will sink to the occasion...

I didn’t vote for the lesser of two evils. The blame lies squarely on the backs of Rove, Coulter, Drudge and the rest of those CINO hacks! They are OBSESSED with GOP power, not with turning this country around.

PREDICTION: (pretty safe prediction at that...)
Next election cycle they GOP candidates will tell the conservative base what they want to hear. Then the entire agenda will move leftward during the general election. The disgruntled conservative base will again buy what the GOP-e is selling for the sake of ousting the democrat candidate. The pathetic GOP RINO candidate will again lose and finger-pointing will once again ensue.

God’s in control. Those of us who know that simple fact are able to vote for our principals. We also believe that ALL authority is given to man BY GOD HIMSELF.

"A huge slice of the electorate voted twice. A huge slice of the electorate didn't exist on 11/6/2012 (dead). A huge slice of the electorate was duplicate absentee ballots. A huge slice of the electorate were Republicans who had their votes expunged.

"The media keeps trumpeting this "Republicans stayed home." Again. BS. The 'Rats stole this one with a 4 year coordinated, surgical strike on the voting process."

Right on, B Sam.

In 2000 with a similar close vote, Gore and the dems did all they could to try to steal the elections.

FR was in Florida (and many other places) "breaking" in to the vote couters bunkers (Called an angry mob, I have the t-shirt) and caught them with the infamous "hanging chad"--changing votes for Gore-- fiasco and also caught them putting Bush votes in the Gore pile.

The timid scardy cat GOP should have INSTANTLY called the leftists on the nation wide voter fraud (Soros, ACORN [alive and well in every major city under new names]) but they don't seem to care.

After all, they let dems vote in their primaries so that the dems and media choose their candidates with a little help from the Turd Blossom (Rove if you don't remember his nickname) and the GOP-e.

It's a disgrace.

Throw out this all-fraud county and Mitt wins Ohio, no question!

Why? A total of 5,364,324 “people” voted in Ohio. Obama got 2,691,861 votes, while Romney got 2,584,620, a difference of 107,241 votes.

How did Cuyahoga County’s 900,135 votes affect the final result? You do the math.

For Ohio to certify this result would be a crime in and of itself.

Personally I think as the case is strong enough, Mitt will do something. Too much is at stake, and as we just found out, Ohio is definitely Mitt’s, and Florida, too, just based on fraud in a few counties! Colorado, too!

Keep up the referrals and the sharing, everyone! Thank you SO much for helping America fix an election that has clearly been “fixed.”

Voter fraud cheapens the votes of the 60 million who picked Mitt to the point of nothingness and gives weight to those who in reality were the minority. If grand theft is defined as any theft over $5,000, what do you call the ONE BILLION times that that is likely to happen AGAIN over the next four years if we do not right this wrong?
