Australia does not have explicit freedom of speech in any constitutional or statutory declaration of rights.

Shall we try that to reduce violence too?

Reading this put me in mind, for some reason, of Steven Pressfield's wonderful historical novel of the last stand at Thermopylae, and the section detailing Leonidas' famous response to the Persian envoy's demand that he surrender his weapons:

It had been agreed among the commanders, the king now informed the warriors, no longer to fight in sallies from behind the Wall as in the previous two days but instead to put its stones at the defenders' backs and advance in a body into the widest part of the pass, there to engage the enemy, the allied scores against the Empire's myriads. The king's intent was that each man sell his life as dearly as possible.

Just as order of battle was being assigned, a herald's trumpet of the enemy sounded from beyond the Narrows. Under a banner of parley a party of four Persian riders in their most brilliant armor picked their way across the carpet of carnage and reined in directly beneath the Wall. Leonidas had been wounded in both legs and could barely hobble. With painful effort he mounted the battlement; the troops climbed with him; the whole force, what there was of it, looked down on the horsemen from atop the Wall.

The envoy was Ptammitechus, the Egyptian marine Tommie. This time his young son did not accompany him as interpreter; that function was performed by an officer of the Persians. Both their mounts, and the two heralds', were balking violently amid the underfoot corpses. Before Tommie could commence his speech, Leonidas cut him off.

"The answer is no," he called down from the Wall.

"You haven't heard the offer."

"F*** the offer," Leonidas cried with a grin. "And yourself, sir, along with it!"

The Egyptian laughed, his smile flashing as brilliantly as ever. He strained against the reins of his spooking horse. "Xerxes does not want your lives, sir," Tommie called. "Only your arms."

Leonidas laughed. "Tell him to come and get them."

Some things these idiots don't understand:
1. In the buy back programs I've seen in Cali, the guns turned in are mostly junk;
2. Very few will both to register their pre-existing weapons no matter Congress or Obami EO's. So that would leave some millions of unregistered guns;
3. Very few will buy a safe if that is what is dictated;
4. There will never be enough man-power resources to confiscate weapons or penalize those who don't register. It's impossible without door-to-door incursion from a nationalized National Guard and/or Active Military, not to mention many in those orgs will just refuse.
5. MOST IMPORTANTLY: If all guns were outlawed and all the manufacturers put out of business tomorrow, there would still be millions and millions of guns that exist with a long shelf life, not to mention the billions of rounds of ammunition.

The liberals/socialists/marxists crybabies never think beyond their feel good ideas and legislation. Sheesh, all their stupid ideas will only push good paying jobs off shore and create a black market. ANY BAD GUY WHO WANTS TO DO HARM WILL STILL HAVE ACCESS TO GUNS no matter if they confiscated every last gun. These people never think of unintended consequences.

The NRA president suggested the correct answer for the mass murdering lunatics; Arm our schools. After talking with my Brother-in-Law tonight on Christmas Eve, I found out there are numerous school districts that allow that...even here in Santa Ana, CA.

Of course the real deterent is either easy CCW or open carry. We all know that those cities/states that allow such have the least crime. Those that have the most restrictive gun laws have the most crime. It has always been such. But then I'm preaching to choir and bleeding hearts will never get it.

No, I didn't lost my legal weapons (even by Calif standards) in a boating accident.
Remington 12 Guage with legal barrel length, Sig Sauer P226 with legal 10 round mag, Colt .38 revolver. Unfortunately, since I waited to long, all the evil looking semi-autos rifles are now out of stock in my area and looks like around the country. Gun sales skyrocketed after Obambi first won, have skyrocketed after his second win from the "gimmes", and now is skyrocketing after the horrific shooting in CT. Americans are ready to protect their own. Hell, the local gun range has a waiting list to famfire in Orange County, Ca.

I claimed I was going to go galt, but this is the final line for me at 63. I've lived a great life and while being on the final turn, I still reserve the right to defend my wife and me if sh*t breaks down and suburbs become a target after they have looted the inner city .

They die or I die or both. She will be long gone to a place where they still believe in the 2nd Amendment and its a family rural area and has many militias. We've had the discussion and she often crys about my intentions and those of the Fedgov. However, being a conservative she gets the threat from the zombies if the "Big One" (earthquake) hits us or other catastrophes that bring out the worst of society.

I hereby let everyone know who reads this: If ANYONE attempts to take my simple defense weapons and/or the zombies intrude, yes, this so-called Internet commando is going out. Just be known you Fegov agencies who read this, someone is going with me. Think Aftganistan insurgency and the damage they do to our Troops.

Having no combat training (simple aviation sailor), I am ready to take orders and no problem with taking point. No one lives forever.

Will her gun be one of them?

Dianne packs heat. Will she get rid of hers first?

I believe she had a tragic boating accident... nobody was hurt. Complete loss of the boat though, and all its contents.

...Uncle Sam might offer $500.”

Because of all the noise made by some in this administration, any AR platform firearm which sold for $750.00 to 1,200 a couple of weeks ago is now going for $1600.00 - 2,000.00+ on the private open (Non-FFL) market. No FFL dealer seems to have any for sale at any price. Added to this is 20 and 30 round magazines - none available from a licensed dealer but a $19.00 30 round P-Mag is now $60.00 each on the private market! Good luck with that $500.00 buy back.

Feinstein should now be declared the "Gun Salesman of the Year".

And as for a “permit”, The People, all of us, already have one, The Second Amendment.

Australia implemented a mandatory buyback program in 1996 following a mass shooting. “The law banned semiautomatic and automatic rifles and shotguns and put in place a mandatory buy-back program for newly banned weapons,” USA Today recalls. “The buyback led to the destruction of 650,000 gun.”>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Yep, that worked really well for Australia:

************************************************

AUSTRALIA: MORE VIOLENT CRIME DESPITE GUN BAN
April 13, 2009

It is a common fantasy that gun bans make society safer. In 2002 — five years after enacting its gun ban — the Australian Bureau of Criminology acknowledged there is no correlation between gun control and the use of firearms in violent crime. In fact, the percent of murders committed with a firearm was the highest it had ever been in 2006 (16.3 percent), says the D.C. Examiner.

Even Australia’s Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research acknowledges that the gun ban had no significant impact on the amount of gun-involved crime:

•In 2006, assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent.
•Sexual assault — Australia’s equivalent term for rape — increased 29.9 percent.
•Overall, Australia’s violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.
Moreover, Australia and the United States — where no gun-ban exists — both experienced similar decreases in murder rates:

•Between 1995 and 2007, Australia saw a 31.9 percent decrease; without a gun ban, America’s rate dropped 31.7 percent.
•During the same time period, all other violent crime indices increased in Australia: assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent.
•Sexual assault — Australia’s equivalent term for rape — increased 29.9 percent.
•Overall, Australia’s violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.
•At the same time, U.S. violent crime decreased 31.8 percent: rape dropped 19.2 percent; robbery decreased 33.2 percent; aggravated assault dropped 32.2 percent.
•Australian women are now raped over three times as often as American women.
While this doesn’t prove that more guns would impact crime rates, it does prove that gun control is a flawed policy. Furthermore, this highlights the most important point: gun banners promote failed policy regardless of the consequences to the people who must live with them, says the Examiner.

The next civil war in America will not be between North and South. It will be between Patriots and Utopians. If the Utopians now in control of government ( they are actually fasists)send the military out to confiscate guns across the USA, the military will likely refuse.

If the military does not refuse its orders from the Utopians, then the effort to confiscate firearms from the public will result in a civil war over the 2nd amendment. The war will not form on strict geographic lines but will be waged around certain urban clusters, which are under control of Utopian fascists who want to die for their cause. I think these Utopians will be rapidly accomodated in their wish to dioe for their cause.

At this point in time, Committees of Safety need to be organized throughout the nation, in order to secure the 2nd amendment, and protect our schools.

.

As in ancient Egypt where the elite declared themselves to be gods our government now uses slaves to design and build massive tombs to worship themselves in the here and now and for their slaves to worship them in the afterlife

Sort of a GREEN self-perpetuating thing

.....until the rivers dry up and nobody will loan them anymore water

Then the next bunch of colorful cannibals will come along and use their dried up bodies as fuel for super-trains to nowhere through the deserts

Just look what the Egyptians and others of Africa have become:

Detroit
Chicago
Washington DC

- and a dying jackal under a pear tree -

Just so I understand you, Dianne, you’re saying that I spend my money to buy a gun; then I give more money to the government, so they can give me back a percentage of what I gave them, in return for giving them the gun I spent my money to buy?

So, I pay for the gun twice, plus pay a “transaction fee” to the government, and end up without a gun?

And that doesn’t even include the sales, excise, Hill-Burton, and other taxes & fees connected with the original purchase? Do I also get a 1099 for this wonderful transaction?

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAhAhahahaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Thanks for the Stats Fred.

BTW, this is unrelated but poses several interesting questions. The 2nd man trend in mass shootings is clearly established. Is it just a “social” phenomenon?

"“Do you really think we want those laws observed?" Said Dr. Ferris. We want them broken. You better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against - then you'll know this is not the age for beautiful gestures. We're after power and we mean it. You fellows were pikers, but we know the real trick and you'd better get wise to it. There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers - and then you cash in on guilt. Now, that's the system Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with."
